Description
The present invention relates to a method for carrying out an orientation aid for visually impaired people within a limited area, in particular for blind people, with a detection unit, a computing unit and a signaling device.
The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method.
Orientation in public buildings and/or in public transport is sometimes not easy for visually impaired people, especially blind people. In public transport in particular, it is often difficult to find a seat, especially since different means of transport are always structured differently and the routes from boarding to the seats differ significantly from one another. The well-known problem is exacerbated in particular by the development of fully autonomous means of transport, because in such a case there is no potential help from the driver. If other passengers are missing or refuse their assistance, the visually impaired person must find their way around the affected area without external assistance.
Various technical aids are therefore known from the prior art, which at least partially facilitate the orientation of visually impaired people.
Overall, it can be stated that known orientation aids are in need of improvement, which is why the object of the present invention is to create a method and a device for implementing an orientation aid that also allows several visually impaired people to find their way individually within the same limited area at the same time, while not visually impaired people People should not be addressed by the orientation aid.
This object is achieved by the method according to claim 1 and by the device according to
Accordingly, when carrying out the orientation aid, it is first recognized or determined whether and where a person who needs orientation aid due to a visual impairment is located in the defined area. The processing unit then determines a trajectory that the person should follow in order to reach a destination. Instructions for action can also be determined here, such as “sit down” or “hold on”. For orientation, an acoustic hologram is generated from several ultrasonic loudspeakers by means of the signaling device, which is initially placed in the immediate vicinity of the person. An acoustic hologram is a section of space within which the ultrasonic loudspeakers generate a zone with an increased sound pressure through coordinated ultrasonic frequencies, which can be felt or haptically perceived by the person. By touching the acoustic hologram, the person can use this as a guide, with the acoustic hologram showing the person the way and, if necessary, communicating instructions for action. All in all, this results in a simple and intuitively operable option for orientation assistance, which provides accurate orientation within a limited area without annoying acoustic signals.
Preferred developments of the invention are disclosed below and in the dependent claims.
According to a first preferred embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the position, shape, alignment, dynamics, intensity and/or intensity distribution of the acoustic hologram can be changed in order to configure the acoustic hologram depending on the instruction. The acoustic hologram can therefore be changed in particular with regard to its position, shape, orientation, dynamics, intensity and/or intensity distribution in such a way that the person can derive instructions for action from the given structure of the acoustic hologram. In the simplest case, it is provided that the acoustic hologram is a static signal, at least in some areas, in particular in the form of a haptically perceptible barrier or at least one haptically perceptible directional indication, the static signal providing orientation through its position, shape and/or orientation within the limited area and/or compliance with the instructions. In this case, a barrier is a substantially vertically arranged section of space within the limited area, in which a zone with increased sound pressure is generated, which the person can perceive haptically and along which the person can feel their way. Alternatively and/or additionally, acoustic holograms can be generated in the form of a directional indication, for example in the form of one or more arrows, which allow appropriate orientation.
In the context of a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the acoustic hologram is a dynamic signal which, by moving within the limited area, allows orientation and/or compliance with the instructions. In the simplest case, the acoustic hologram is designed in the form of a dynamic signal as a sphere or other geometric figure that can be felt by the person floating in space. By moving the dynamic signal along the determined trajectory, the person only has to follow the dynamic signal so that the person is guided in a targeted manner.
Instructions for action are preferably signaled by a change in the structure of the acoustic hologram, with such a change being able to take place both in the case of a static signal and in the case of a dynamic signal. In particular, as part of an advantageous development of the invention, it is provided that the acoustic hologram is a static or dynamic signal that has a variable intensity and/or a variable intensity distribution at least in certain areas, with changes in the intensity or changes in the intensity distribution being an orientation and/or compliance allow instructions for action. A variable intensity is to be understood as meaning a variable sound pressure that is adjusted or generated by the ultrasonic loudspeakers in the area of the acoustic hologram. An increase or decrease in intensity can be coded with an instruction, such as sitting down, holding on or standing still. In order to increase the number of instructions for action that can be conveyed, a variable intensity distribution can also be provided within the acoustic hologram, with zones of higher sound pressure and zones of lower sound pressure resulting within the acoustic hologram. Such intensity distributions, which may also be variable, are linked to further instructions, such as turning left, turning right or turning back.
So that the method is only carried out when a visually impaired person is in the limited area, provision is preferably made for the method to be started automatically or manually as required. For this purpose, it is initially provided that, for the automatic start of the method, the detection unit and the processing unit are set up to recognize a visually impaired person using a blind badge. Alternatively and/or additionally, the detection unit and the computing unit are set up to carry out face recognition using a database in which the faces of participating visually impaired persons are stored so that they can be called up. It is also provided that wireless communication is set up between the detection unit and the computing unit on the one hand and a mobile terminal device of the visually impaired person - a smartphone or the like - on the other hand, so that the method is started automatically using an application (app) installed on the mobile terminal device .
In contrast, a gesture control, voice recognition or a switch is provided for starting the method manually, so that the visually impaired person can start the method manually and as required. For this purpose in particular, the detection unit is preferably designed to receive input commands, for example as part of a gesture control.
Furthermore, within the scope of an advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the signaling device is designed as a signal generator with which the person can use it independently of the implementation a guide information can be conveyed. In this way, the person can, for example, be informed that the destination has been reached or, if necessary, be woken up.
In principle, the present method can be used in any limited area that is equipped with a corresponding device made up of a detection unit, arithmetic unit and signaling device. Preferably, the delimited area is a building or public transport, which may be an autonomously controlled vehicle, such as a robotaxi. However, the method can also be used in cars, buses, ships, ferries or airplanes.
