Verbunden ist dies allerdings mit einer gewissen Verletzungsgefahr des Sparringspartners, da er den Hieben der Trainingsperson unmittelbar ausgesetzt ist. Ein Kopfschutz kann dies vermeiden helfen, birgt aber gleichwohl ein gewisses Restrisiko und behindert zudem das Sichtfeld des Sparringspartners. Der Einsatz von Dummyvorrichtungen schließt Verletzungen eines Trainingspartners aus, vermag aufgrund der Unbeweglichkeit des Dummys realistische Kampfszenarien allerdings oftmals nur unzureichend zu reproduzieren.
