Description
The present invention relates to a desulfurization arrangement for desulfurizing fuel for a fuel cell system. The invention further relates to a fuel cell system, in particular a stationary fuel cell system, with a desulfurization. Moreover, the invention relates to a method for exchanging a desulfurization unit in a fuel cell system.
A further problem with generic fuel cell systems is that, when replacing the desulfurization units known in the prior art, it is currently unavoidable that oxygen, even if only in small amounts, enters the fuel cell system. After the fuel, for example in the form of natural gas, has been reformed into hydrogen and carbon monoxide rich gas in a reformer of a fuel cell system, it passes to the anode section of the fuel cell system. As a result, oxygen can reach the anode section after the replacement of the desulfurization unit during operation of the fuel cell system. However, oxygen is detrimental to the anode section during operation of the fuel cell system. When using only a single desulfurization unit with bypass line, however, in a replacement of the same can go for a short time non-desulfurized gas to the anode section, which sulfur can poison the cells there.
If two parallel desulfurization units are used, the interruption of the operation can indeed be avoided, but oxygen can still enter the anode section through the replacement of the desulfurization units.
Object of the present invention is to at least partially take into account the problem described above. In particular, it is an object of the present invention to provide a desulfurization for a fuel cell system, a fuel cell system and a method for replacing a desulfurization in a fuel cell system, by means of which fuel for the fuel cell system in uninterrupted operation of the fuel cell system can be reliably desulfurized for long periods of time.
The above object is solved by the claims. In particular, the above object is achieved by the desulfurization arrangement according to claim 1, the fuel cell system according to
According to a first aspect of the present invention, a desulfurization arrangement for a fuel cell system is provided. The desulfurization assembly includes a main desulfurization unit for desulphurizing fuel for the fuel cell system in a main fuel passage of the fuel cell system during a normal operation phase in which the fuel cell system is predominantly operated. Furthermore, the desulfurization arrangement has a buffer desulphurisation unit for desulphurizing the fuel in a sub-fuel passage of the fuel cell system which is at least partially parallel to the main fuel passage and forms a bypass to the main desulphurisation unit in an exchange operating phase of the fuel cell system in which an exchange of the main fuel Desulfurization is performed on. In addition, the desulfurization arrangement includes a main blocking device for blocking the main fuel passage at least in sections upstream and downstream of the main desulfurization unit during the replacement operation phase of the fuel cell system.
By using the buffer desulfurization unit, which can be arranged in parallel with the main desulfurization unit, the fuel cell system can also be continuously operated with desulphurised fuel even in the exchange mode. That is, the buffer desulfurization unit is operable completely independently of the main desulfurization unit. By means of the main blocking device, it can be ensured that an old or main desulphurisation unit can be replaced quickly and easily by a new main desulphurisation unit. During the replacement operation state, the fuel can be completely desulfurized by the buffer desulfurization unit and then directed to the desired position, in particular to an anode section of a fuel cell stack of the fuel cell system. Consequently, with the aid of the desulfurization arrangement according to the invention, the main desulfurization unit can be exchanged during operation of the fuel cell system such that the fuel supply of the fuel cell system does not have to be switched off during the exchange and thus can continuously generate electricity through the fuel cell system even during the exchange.
The main desulfurization unit is configured to desulfurize fuel used in the fuel cell system. The main desulfurization unit is designed in particular for providing desulfurized fuel for an anode section of a fuel cell stack of the fuel cell system.
For blocking the main fuel passage upstream and downstream of the main desulfurization unit, the main lock device is switchable to a lock state. For this purpose, the main blocking device is preferably designed as a valve arrangement. For blocking the main fuel passage upstream and downstream of the main desulfurization unit, the main lock device preferably includes at least a first main shut-off valve for shutting off the main fuel passage upstream of the main desulfurization unit and at least a second main shut-off valve for shutting off the main fuel passage downstream of the main desulfurization unit on. For the normal operation state, the main stopper may be switched to a passage state for releasing the main fuel passage upstream and downstream of the main desulfurization unit. During the replacement phase of operation, the main blocking device is switchable to the blocking state. However, during the replacement operation phase, the main lock-up device may also be switched to an on-state or a partial-on state in which, for example, the first master cut valve is in an on-state and the second master-off valve is in a cut-off state.
The desulfurization is especially designed for a stationary fuel cell system. For desulfurization of the fuel, the main desulfurization unit and the buffer desulfurization unit have desulphurisation material for the process-related removal of sulfur and / or sulfur-containing compounds from the fuel.
For blocking and releasing the main locking device, a suitable control device may be provided. The controller may be configured and configured to automatically switch the main inhibit to at least partially upstream and / or downstream of the main desulfurization unit, based on predefined thresholds, to disable the main fuel passage. For this purpose, the desulfurization arrangement may comprise a measuring device for measuring an operating state of the main desulphurisation unit, for example based on a sulfur loading of the main desulfurization unit and / or on the basis of a predefined operating time and / or operating mode, wherein the control unit is configured and configured, depending on the main blocking device From the measured or recognized operating state of the main desulfurization at least in sections, ie upstream and / or downstream of the main desulfurization to switch into the blocking state. As a result, it can be automatically prevented that non-desulphurised fuel can reach the anode section of the fuel cell stack due to an outdated main desulfurization unit.
The desulfurization device may further include a signal unit for outputting a warning signal depending on the detected operating state of the main desulfurization unit. Thus, a warning signal can be issued automatically as soon as a predefined operating state of the main desulfurization unit is detected by the measuring device, which requires an exchange of the main desulfurization unit. An accidental operation of the desulfurization in a no longer fully functional state of the main desulfurization unit or in a state in which a maximum allowable sulfur loading of the main desulfurization unit is achieved, can be prevented in a simple manner.
According to a further embodiment variant of the present invention, it is possible that the main desulfurization unit and the buffer desulfurization unit each have the same or at least partially the same desulfurization material for desulfurizing the fuel. If they have the same desulphurisation material, the fuel can always be desulphurized uniformly, regardless of whether the fuel cell system is currently in the normal operating phase or in the exchange operating phase. Moreover, the provision of the same desulfurization material in the main desulfurization unit and in the buffer desulfurization unit brings logistic advantages. Thus, in the production of the two desulfurization units only one desulphurisation material has to be provided. A confusion is excluded. The use according to the invention of the same desulfurization materials is possible in particular because the desulfurization arrangement is provided for a fuel cell system in which the main desulfurization unit and the buffer desulfurization unit are operated at the same or essentially the same operating temperature. In a desulphurisation arrangement for a fuel cell system in which different desulphurisation units operate at different operating temperatures and / or with different loading capacities, this is generally not possible. It is favorable if the desulphurisation material is a material composition of two or more materials.
According to the invention it may also be advantageous if the desulfurization of the two desulfurization at least partially different, that is, only partially have the same desulfurization. Thus, for example, the desulfurizing material of the main desulfurization unit may comprise a material composition in the range of about 70% to 90% material A, especially about 80% material A and about 10% to 30% material B, more preferably about 20% material B. In this case, the buffer desulfurization unit in particular comprises approximately 100% of material B. This makes it possible to fill the desulfurization units in a simple manner.
It is advantageous in any case, if the desulfurization units are designed such that they work properly at ambient temperature and work. For this purpose, in particular the desulphurisation material or the desulphurising or desulphurising material composition is selected.
Further, in a desulfurization device according to the present invention, it is possible that the desulfurization material has an adsorbent with manganese dioxide and copper oxide, with which effective desulfurization is possible.
A desulfurization arrangement according to the invention may further comprise at least one vent valve arranged downstream of the main desulfurization unit in a vent passage of the fuel cell system at least partially parallel to the main fuel passage and there for venting the main desulfurization unit during the replacement operation phase in which the main lock device in the main Fuel passage upstream of the main desulfurization unit in an on-state and downstream of the main desulfurization unit is in a blocking state. By the vent valve can be achieved that after replacing the main desulfurization and before switching to the normal operating state, no air or oxygen are more in the main fuel passage and / or in the main desulfurization unit. As described above, oxygen is detrimental to the anode section during operation of the fuel cell system. The vent valve according to the invention makes it possible to ensure in a simple manner that the replacement of the main desulfurization unit can be carried out without subsequent damage to the fuel cell system. The first master cut valve may be switched to an on-state during venting while the second master cut valve is switchable to a cut-off state. In this case, the first main shut-off valve can be understood as a further vent valve. During the normal operating state, the venting valve can function as a check valve, that is to say be switched to a blocking state in order to prevent fuel flow through the venting passage.
Moreover, it is possible for a desulfurization arrangement according to the invention to have a secondary blocking device for blocking the secondary fuel passage at least in sections upstream and downstream of the buffer desulfurization unit, in particular in the area of the bypass, during the normal operating phase of the fuel cell system. This can be prevented in a simple manner that the bypass desulfurization unit is acted upon during the normal operating phase with fuel and thus with sulfur. The sub-lockout device may include a first sub-lock valve for disabling the sub-fuel passage upstream of the buffer desulfurization unit and a second sub-lock valve for disabling the sub-fuel passage downstream of the buffer desulfurization unit.
It may be of further advantage if, in a desulphurisation arrangement according to the present invention, the main desulphurisation unit has more desulphurising material than the desulphurisation unit Buffer desulfurization unit has. The main desulfurization unit is therefore preferably larger in size than the buffer desulfurization unit. In particular, the main desulfurization unit is designed in a size in which a predefined maintenance interval of, for example, one year can be met for replacement. As a result, it is not necessary to operate two large desulfurization units at the same time, but predominantly the main desulfurization unit and only in the exchange operating state the much smaller buffer desulfurization unit. The main desulfurization unit has a multiple of desulfurization material compared to the buffer desulfurization unit. The buffer desulfurization unit preferably has less than 10%, in particular less than 1%, of the amount of desulphurisation material of the main desulphurisation unit. The buffer desulfurization unit is sized so that it can be operated for a given maintenance interval for the entire life of the system and thus does not need to be replaced.
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a fuel cell system comprising a fuel cell stack having an anode portion and a cathode portion, a reformer upstream of the anode portion for reforming fuel for the anode portion, a burner downstream of the fuel cell stack for burning anode exhaust gas from the anode portion and or cathode exhaust gas from the cathode section, a fuel source for providing the fuel to the fuel cell system, and a desulfurization system as described in detail above. In the fuel cell system, the main desulfurization unit is disposed in the main fuel passage, the buffer desulfurization unit is disposed in the sub fuel passage configured in parallel with the main fuel passage, which bypasses the main desulfurization unit, and the main lock device is locked the main fuel passage at least in sections upstream and downstream of the main desulfurization during the exchange operating phase of the fuel cell system, configured.
Thus, a fuel cell system according to the invention brings about the same advantages as have been described in detail with reference to the desulfurization arrangement according to the invention. The fuel cell system is preferably designed as a stationary fuel cell system, in particular as a stationary SOFC system.
For blocking the main fuel passage upstream and downstream of the main desulfurization unit, the main lock device is switchable to a lock state. In order to release the main fuel passage upstream and downstream of the main desulphurisation unit at least in sections for a fuel flow, the main blocking device is switchable to a passage state. In a fuel cell system according to the invention could be carried out during the exchange operating phase instead of the exchange of the main desulfurization also a treatment of the main desulfurization. In this case, a main body of the main desulfurization unit would remain in the fuel cell system, while, for example, only the desulfurization material is exchanged or properly treated. That is, during the replacement operation phase, it is not mandatory that the entire main desulfurization unit be replaced.
As mentioned above, the main blocking device preferably has a first main shut-off valve upstream, in particular directly upstream, the main desulfurization unit and a second main shut-off valve downstream, in particular directly downstream, of the main desulfurization unit. The two main shut-off valves can be switched independently of each other. As a result, the desired blocking or passage state in the main fuel passage in the region of the main desulphurisation unit can be switched in a simple manner.
As mentioned above, the sub-locking device preferably has a first secondary shut-off valve upstream, in particular directly upstream, the buffer desulfurization unit and a second secondary shut-off valve downstream, in particular directly downstream, of the buffer desulfurization unit. The two secondary shut-off valves can be switched independently of each other. As a result, the desired blocking or passage state in the sub-fuel passage in the area of the buffer desulfurization unit can be switched in a simple manner.
To control the various check valves, the fuel cell system has suitable actuators, which can be controlled by a control unit as described above. The control unit may have an electronic control unit for automatically performing the desired switching operations, in particular based on the above-explained measured values.
The bypass of the sub-fuel passage to the main desulfurization unit preferably starts upstream of the first main shut-off valve and terminates in the main fuel passage downstream of the second main shut-off valve, wherein both the first sub-cut valve, the buffer desulfurization unit and the second By-pass valve located in bypass. As a result, the desired connection and disconnection of the main desulfurization unit and of the buffer desulfurization unit for the respectively desired desulfurization of the fuel can be realized particularly effectively and reliably. The main fuel passage and the sub-fuel passage preferably branch off from an initial fuel passage into fuel passages that are at least partially parallel to each other, the initial fuel passage protruding from a fuel source of the fuel cell system. As a result, a particularly simple and space-saving line construction in the fuel cell system can be realized.
Die Entlüftungspassage zweigt vorzugsweise aus der Haupt-Brennstoffpassage stromabwärts der Haupt-Entschwefelungseinheit und stromaufwärts des zweiten Hauptsperrventils in Richtung des Brenners ab.According to a further embodiment variant of the present invention, it is possible for the at least one venting valve to be arranged downstream of the main desulfurization unit in the venting passage of the fuel cell system designed at least in sections parallel to the main fuel passage, the venting valve for venting the main desulfurization unit during the replacement operation phase Direction of the burner of the fuel cell system, which is arranged downstream of the vent valve is configured. Thereby, the above-mentioned advantageous effect can be achieved that oxygen can be removed from the main fuel passage in the region of the main desulfurization before switching to the normal operating state of the fuel cell system, whereby in particular the anode portion of the fuel cell stack can be protected against operational damage. The vent passage preferably branches off from the main fuel passage downstream of the main desulfurization unit and upstream of the second main shut-off valve toward the burner.
Furthermore, it is possible that, in a fuel cell system according to the invention, a catalytic afterburner is arranged upstream of the burner downstream of the fuel cell stack and the venting passage leads past the catalytic afterburner into the burner. As a result, the fuel for the vent can be passed directly into the afterburner, without applying the catalytic afterburner. This is conducive to the longevity of the catalytic afterburner and thus also for the correspondingly long-lasting functioning of the fuel cell system. The catalytic afterburner is preferably designed as an oxidation catalyst for a catalytic combustion of the anode exhaust gas and the cathode exhaust gas. It may also be favorable if the burner and the catalytic secondary burner are designed as a common and / or integral component.
In addition, it may be advantageous if, in a fuel cell system according to the present invention downstream of the vent valve, a throttle valve for predefined throttling a vent flow is arranged in the direction of the burner. By appropriate control and / or regulation of the throttle can be prevented that the burner is subjected during the venting with an excessive amount of fuel, whereby the thermal behavior of the fuel cell system could be adversely affected. By throttling the vent flow and thus a corresponding throttling of the amount of fuel with which the burner is acted upon during the Austauschbetriebsphase, thus a uniform operation during all operating phases of the fuel cell system can be ensured.
- Switching the main blocking device into a blocking state for blocking the main fuel passage at least in sections upstream and downstream of the main desulphurisation unit,
- Diverting a fuel supply in the direction of the anode section through the buffer desulfurization unit,
- Replacing the main desulphurisation unit by a new main desulphurisation unit while the fuel is being conducted through the buffer desulphurisation unit in the direction of the anode section, and
- Switching the main stopper to an on-state for releasing the main fuel passage for a fuel flow from the fuel source through the main desulfurization unit to the anode portion of the fuel cell stack after replacing the main desulfurization unit.
Thus, a method according to the invention also brings the advantages described in detail above. In the method, the bypassing of the fuel supply in the direction of the anode portion is effected in particular by the switching of the main blocking device in the blocking state. Once the main blocking device has been switched to the blocking state, that is to say preferably the first main blocking valve and the second main blocking valve have been switched to the blocking state, the secondary blocking device, that is to say the first secondary blocking valve and the second secondary blocking valve, be switched to an on state. Now, the fuel from the fuel source can no longer flow through the main desulfurization unit, but only through the buffer desulfurization unit. More specifically, the fuel can now be passed, via the bypass of the sub-fuel passage through the buffer desulfurization unit, the opened sub-lock further into a portion of the main fuel passage downstream of the main lock, in particular downstream of the second main shut-off valve.
It is advantageous, in particular, if the new main desulfurization unit is vented by opening the main blocking device and the venting valve, in particular immediately after insertion thereof. Furthermore, it is favorable if, at the same time, the venting valve is closed in order to switch the main blocking device into an on-state.
As described above, instead of exchanging, cleaning or a corresponding treatment of the main desulphurisation unit can be carried out, in which, as it were, only a part of the main desulphurisation unit is exchanged and / or prepared. In carrying out the process, the main desulfurization unit and the buffer desulfurization unit are operated at the same or essentially the same operating temperature.
According to a further embodiment variant of the present invention, it is possible for one method to switch the venting valve to a venting state after replacing the main desulfurizing unit and before the main blocking device is switched to the on-state, and the main blocking device in the main Fuel passage upstream of the main desulfurization unit is switched to an on-state and downstream of the main desulfurization in a blocking state, wherein the main desulfurization unit and the main fuel passage by means of fuel from the fuel source, which is passed from the fuel source through the main desulfurization through the bleed valve will be vented. By this circuitry, the main fuel passage can be easily and reliably vented, thereby protecting the anode portion of the fuel cell stack from damage. Once the fuel cell system has been switched to the above-mentioned operating condition, fuel may flow from the fuel source through the main fuel passage through the main main locking first main shut-off valve, the main desulfurization unit replaced, and out of the main fuel passage via the purge passage through the purge valve toward of the burner. This fluid path including the functional components arranged therein can be vented by the fuel, in particular in the form of natural gas. The fuel used for the vent can then be burned in the afterburner. Downstream of the burner, a heat exchanger is arranged, which can be heated by the burnt fuel in the burner. Thereby, the fuel used for venting can be used to heat the burner, which in turn can heat a working fluid of the fuel cell system, for example, air, which is passed to the cathode portion of the fuel cell stack. As a result, a particularly efficiently operating fuel cell system can be made available.
In addition, in a method according to the invention, it is possible for a volume flow of the fuel from the fuel source to the burner during the venting of the main desulfurization unit and the main fuel passage through the throttle valve to be regulated to a predefined value. This can ensure that the burner is not supplied with too much fuel, which could adversely affect the thermal behavior in this area. In addition, it can be ensured that not unnecessarily much fuel for venting the main fuel passage is used, so fuel is saved.
