Description
The invention relates to a method for determining an oil change point in time for engine oil when operating an internal combustion engine.
Determining an optimal oil change time as precisely as possible allows a needs-based engine oil change in correspondingly optimal oil change intervals. In this way, on the one hand, it can be avoided that engine oil aging that is too advanced leads to undesired wear or even damage, and on the other hand, it can be prevented that the engine oil is changed too early with a correspondingly increased maintenance effort.

It is also advantageous if the predetermined oil pressure is set independently of the oil viscosity of the engine oil by means of the oil pressure regulating valve. As a result, adequate lubrication of the at least one oil consumer can be reliably ensured even when the oil viscosity changes.
In an advantageous development of the invention, an oil temperature of the engine oil is used as the at least one engine oil parameter. The oil temperature can be determined particularly easily and precisely.
In summary, in the present method, the oil pressure can be set using the oil pressure regulating valve independently of the oil viscosity of the engine oil, so that the oil pressure can be kept constant using the oil pressure regulating valve, for example in the partial load operating range, which can also be referred to as the partial load range. The oil pressure regulating valve (which can also be referred to as the oil pressure control valve, or OPCV for short) can be controlled electronically using a control unit of the internal combustion engine in order to control the partial amount of engine oil and thereby keep the oil pressure constant in the partial load range even as the engine oil ages. If the viscosity of the engine oil used and certain standard ambient conditions are known, to which the engine oil parameters, i.e. in the present case the oil temperature of the engine oil, belong, the shutdown signal, which can be a PWM signal (pulse width modulated signal), for example, can be used to To determine engine oil aging, which can lead, for example, to a thickening of the engine oil (engine oil thickening), and additionally or alternatively be used to prevent the predetermined threshold value, which can also be referred to as a limit value, from being exceeded. By using the shutdown signal, a particularly precise determination of the oil change time can take place, so that the engine oil change is carried out in an optimal manner Oil change intervals can be done. The method allows a determination of a maximum viscosity or engine oil thickening of the engine oil, so that, for example, a driver of a motor vehicle equipped with the internal combustion engine can be warned that fuel consumption is about to deteriorate as a result of engine oil aging and that it makes sense to change the engine oil in order to avoid this deterioration in fuel consumption. The method can in particular limit a maximum pressure increase in the oil pressure caused by engine oil aging, in that the signals from the oil pressure regulating valve are evaluated by using the signal change of the shutdown signal and the engine oil is changed in good time based on the evaluation of the signals or signal change.
