Der Erfindung liegt das Problem zugrunde, dass sich Babys und Kleinkinder oftmals unter vollem Körpereinsatz durch Drehen, Aufsetzen, Strampeln, oder Krabbeln dem alltäglichen Wickel- oder Pflegevorgang entziehen. Das flache Abliegen auf dem Wickeltisch entspricht nicht der natürlichen Körperhaltung im Mutterleib und wird daher von Babys als unangenehm und bedrohlich empfunden. Mit zunehmendem Alter wollen Babys aufgrund ihres Bewegungsdrangs und ihrer Neugier nicht mehr liegen bleiben. Sie werden von Gegenständen in der Umgebung abgelenkt und versuchen sich in deren Richtung zu bewegen um danach zu greifen. Das alltägliche Wickeln und Pflegen kann dann für die Pflegepersonen mit sehr viel Stress verbunden sein, da sie die Kleinkinder festhalten müssen und somit die Hände nicht für den Pflegevorgang frei haben. Für Kleinkinder kann der Vorgang lebensgefährlich sein, da sie vom Wickeltisch herunterstürzen können. Oftmals treten Situationen auf, die ein Entfernen der Pflegeperson vom Wickeltisch erforderlich machen, z.B. wenn sich Pflegeprodukte oder Windeln außerhalb der Reichweite befinden oder ein älteres Kind Aufmerksamkeit beansprucht. Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kinderchirurgie weist auf die Gefahren für Kleinkinder durch einen Sturz vom Wickeltisch hin. Demnach finden über 80 Prozent aller Unfälle von Kindern unter 2 Jahren im häuslichen Umfeld statt. Stürze vom Wickeltisch sind dabei die häufigste Ursache (Statistisches Bundesamt).
Bekannt sind Wickelunterlagen mit Haltevorrichtungen, die aus einzelnen horizontal oberhalb des Bauches oder Brustkorbes der Wickelkinder verlaufenden Bändern bestehen, wie z.B. in der DE 20 2018 005 391 offenbart. Nachteil dieser Haltevorrichtungen ist jedoch, dass eine derartige Fixierung nicht ausreicht, um Kinder daran zu hindern, sich zu drehen, aufzusetzen oder davon zu krabbeln.
Weiterhin sind bekannte Wickelunterlagen mit Haltevorrichtungen nicht oder nur teilwiese auf die Größe der Wickelkinder einstellbar und somit ist ein „Mitwachsen“ mit dem Kind nicht gegeben.
Bekannte Wickelauflagen haben auch den Nachteil, dass sie nicht auf die Größe der jeweiligen Wickelkommode, Tische o.ä. anpassbar sind.
