Abstract
The present application relates to a use of a cellophane film (16) as a wrapping-packaging film (14) for the packaging of pasty, at least salt, fat and sugar-containing foods (12), in geometrically determined shape, in particular of soup cubes (12).
Description
The present application relates to a packaging of pasty, water-soluble foods in a certain geometric shape. These pasty foods contain salt, fat and a sugar, and may also contain other ingredients, such as condiments in the form of extracts, such as meat extract, fish extract or protein extract in general or / and yeast extract. In addition, the pasty foods may also contain flavor enhancers, such as monosodium glutamate.
Such pasty, water-soluble but shape-defined foods are preferably bouillon cubes, which are regionally also referred to differently as "soup cubes" or "bouillon cubes".
The sugar contained in the pasty foods may be immediately added sugar or may be further processed sugar, such as caramel and the like.
Originally, such pasty foods in defined shape (block form) were wrapped in paper and metal foil or in packaging sheets of metal-paper laminate.
Häufigstes Verpackungsmaterial für pastöse Lebensmittel in Blockform, wie Brühwürfel, auf Basis einer Polymer-Kunststofffolie sind derzeit metallisierte Folien aus orientiertem Polypropylen (OPP).Due to the salt content, the pasty foods mentioned here have a hygroscopic effect, which is why a metal foil in the packaging material was used as the water vapor barrier. Nevertheless, the paper layer proved to be brittle when folded in the vicinity of the food, so that the metal-paper laminate was subsequently replaced by a metal-plastic laminate or by metallized plastic films as packaging material for the pasty food. Most common packing material for pasty foods in block form, such as bouillon cubes, based on a polymer plastic film are currently metallized films of oriented polypropylene (OPP).
A problem with packaging for such block-like pasty foods, as they are bouillon cubes, is that the single flat wrapping sheet, which is intended for a brewing cube wrapping, so the brewing cubes wrapped by predetermined folding wrapping, only a small size, which is for a variety Sorting a waste cycle economy can pose a technical challenge. In addition, block-shaped pasty foods wrapped in packaging films are often supplied to and used in countries and economic regions where a waste cycle economy is only rudimentary or not at all established. The low-impact wraps that remain as waste after using the food are difficult to sort automatically-machine due to their small size. On the other hand, due to the small size, manual sorting of the used packaging films often fails after use of the food.
Thus, many used bouillon cube packaging films in many regions of the world go uncontrolled into nature, where they remain for a long time as waste due to the actually desired for food packaging stability of the packaging materials used.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a technical teaching, which makes it possible to eliminate or mitigate the above-described, associated with used packaging films of bouillon cubes or generally of pasty blocky food waste problem.
This object is achieved by a use of a cellulose film as wrapping packaging film for packaging pasty, at least salt, fat and a sugar-containing foods in geometrically determined shape, in particular of soup cubes.
Cellophane, or "cellulose hydrate" or "cellophane", is already known as a packaging material for dry pieces of food, such as biscuits or candies. In these applications, however, the packages formed from cell glass are usually not closed by predetermined folding of the packaging material, but by a "twist", ie by a rotation of a beyond the material to be packaged beyond projecting packaging material about a direction parallel to Vorstehrichtung axis of rotation or by sealing the originally open edges of a cellophane wrapping. Cell glass has very good folding properties, such as a low elastic restoring force after folding or twisting. With the same material thickness, cell glass has even better barrier properties with respect to oxygen permeability than the known opaque oriented polypropylene. It is also more temperature resistant than OPP and has a sufficient water vapor barrier.
The advantage of cellophane is its biodegradability. Cellulose hydrate is biodegradable to 80-90% by weight of any functional coatings provided thereon.
Especially in those economic regions where no functioning waste-cycle economy is established, the present invention can at least ensure that undesirable naturally disposed used packaging material of bouillon cubes and the like does not remain there for decades, but is largely eliminated by biodegradation. While it is true that the use of cellophane as a packaging material does not improve the waste cycle economy, it does significantly mitigate the effects of a lack of waste management.
In order that the packaging material for the pasty-block-shaped foodstuffs is as extensively biodegradable as possible, the packaging material may be formed from a cellulosic monofilm and, apart from the cellglass, may have no further polymer-plastic layers. To improve its sealing and / or barrier properties, at least one functional coating may be disposed on one or both sides of the cell glass foil and / or the packaging film formed therefrom. Care must be taken that the at least one functional coating does not endanger the basic biodegradability of the cellulosic foil. The biodegradability of the impact glass packaging film containing cellophane is usually ensured by sufficiently thin formation of the functional coating. The at least one functional coating is not a structurally independent layer which would be stable without its cell glass carrier film, but merely coatings of the cell glass carrier film, for example with a layer thickness of 1 to 2 μm. Solely as an example of materials of functional coatings are mentioned without claim to completeness: nitrocellulose, PVDC or other chloride-containing (vinyl-containing) materials, acrylates and the like.
To increase the barrier effect, the cell glass foil can be metallized on one side, preferably on its outer side, which, when a food is wrapped in the cell glass foil, is located on the side facing away from the food, in particular bouillon cubes, side of the cell glass foil. Preferably, the cell glass sheet is metallized over the entire surface.
Another advantage of cellophane is that it can come into direct contact with food and is harmless in food contact. Therefore, a film side of the cellophane film is intended as a food contact side for contact with the food. This allows the use of a cellophane monofilm as wrapping packaging film.
To provide product information, the packaging film may have printing, the printing preferably being provided on the metallized side of the packaging film so that metallized surface portions may be part of the visual impression of the packaged food that the consumer gains in viewing the packaged food. The printing can therefore omit surface portions of the metallization, so that it is visible from the outside.
As is customary for printed packaging films, this may have on its outer side a protective layer to protect the print from abrasion. The protective layer can, in contrast to printing, also be applied where no print job has taken place. It may be applied over the entire area or only locally-partially in predetermined areas, while other areas are free of the protective layer. For example, in order to ensure the best possible sealability of surface areas adjacent to each other after wrapping, the packaging film comprising a cellglass film can be recessed from the protective varnish layer while at the same time being able to roll up the packaging film to form dense transport packs. In these recessed surface areas locally-partial sealing material may be applied. Preferably, the protective lacquer layer is applied over the entire surface.
To ensure or improve the sealability, depending on the predetermined wrapping or folding pattern with which the packaging film is folded around the food to be packaged, on one side or on both sides of the packaging film, a coating with sealing material may be provided locally-partially close a packaging formed by wrapping the packaging film, preferably even close tight. The way in which formed wrapping packaging is reopened can also be influenced or even determined by the only locally-partial application of a sealing material coating. Other areas of the packaging film may be free of the sealant coating. Local partial application of sealing material can be done with high precision printing technology.
Cellophane film is usually transparent, which is not always desirable in the case of food packaging, in particular for bouillon cubes, since fat contained in the packaged food can be sensitive to oxidation by UV light. So to protect the embarked food by the packaging film from unwanted UV light irradiation, the cellophane film can be opaque. The above-mentioned metallization also provides such a light protection, so that the metallization can be applied as an additional light protection on the opaque glass sheet. An opacity of the cellophane film can be achieved by introducing micro-cavities, so for example by the addition of finely powdered blowing agent, which ausastast in the cell glass sheet and so forms micro-gas bubbles in the film.
However, the mere effect of an opaque cellophane film can also be achieved by adding color pigment, in particular white color pigment. For example, TiO 2 can be mixed as a fine white pigment powder in the later cellophane forming matrix.
Due to the considerably lower restoring forces after folding as compared to transparent OPP of the same thickness as well as better barrier properties of functionally coated cellophane compared to transparent OPP of the same thickness, the cellophane film can also be used transparently as a packaging film if the packaged product is to be visible to the consumer and the product is insensitive to light.
A type of cellophane which is particularly suitable for the present use for packaging pasty, water-soluble, salt, fat and a sugar-containing foodstuffs of geometrically determined shape is a cellophane film of the Futamura group sold under the name "NatureFlex®" , formerly Innovia Films, Limited. The types NatureFlex® NM23 and NatureFlex® NM22 are particularly suitable for the packaging of bouillon cubes.
In addition to the use of a cellophane film for the packaging of pasty salt, fat and sugar-containing foodstuffs of geometrically determined shape, the present invention relates to a packaging, in particular a packaging film for said foods, in particular soup cubes, which has a cellophane film, one side of the film for contact with intended for the food. The cellophane film, which is preferably a cellglass monofilm as a packaging film and has no further polymer plastic films, can, as already described above, have a coating to increase its barrier effect on one or both of its surfaces, in particular a coating provided only locally and partially their opposite side of the food contact page metallized be and also on the metallized side printing, optionally with overlying protective coating wear. The metallization may be coated with a primer to improve the adhesion of further layers applied to the metallization, such as printing inks or a sealing material.
Finally, the present invention relates to a packaged food product comprising a pasty, at least salt, fat and sugar containing food in geometrically determined shape, in particular a soup cube, which is wrapped in a package which is formed from the packaging film described above.
