By providing a flow barrier through which steam can flow, which can be arranged in the region of the flow opening, it is possible on the one hand to ensure trouble-free introduction of steam into the cooking chamber and, on the other hand, to prevent contamination via the flow opening and the connecting pipe, in particular a wash liquor or pure fat particles into which steam generators can penetrate.

The definition "in the region of the flow opening" can mean: in the flow opening, on the flow opening or also adjacent to the flow opening, such as, for example, in the connection pipe or a pipe or pipe socket which protrudes into the cooking space and is placed on the flow opening.

According to the invention, the fact is exploited here that when the cold steam generator is switched off, it is prevented that soiling, in particular washing liquor and / or fat particles, can enter the steam generator since they are retained by the flow barrier. Clogging of the flow barrier is, however, prevented by the fact that when the steam generator is switched on, the steam introduced into the cooking space removes the contaminants from the flow barrier and rinses into the cooking space, from which they can be flushed out by the cleaning system of the cooking appliance according to the invention.
