Description
The invention relates to a method for producing an energy storage cell, a battery module with such energy storage cells and a corresponding vehicle.
Electrochemical energy storage, such. As lithium-ion cells play in everyday life in the form of portable or portable batteries a major role. As an energy store and supplier, for example, they provide power to portable electrical devices, such as wireless telecommunications devices. Especially in the field of so-called electromobility such energy storage cells are of central importance. Here, the aim is to achieve the highest possible storage capacity in a compact design.
Various methods for producing energy storage cells are known from the prior art. The electrode materials are each in the form of long film webs, which z. B. cut and stacked, folded z-shaped or wound up in a screw shape and then placed in a housing suitable size and shape. The cutting and subsequent stacking of the film webs makes it possible to produce an electrode stack which fills the volume of a cuboid housing and therefore ensures a high energy density in such a housing. However, due to the large number of process steps required in each cell in the form of cuts and stacking, the method is relatively expensive. The winding of the film webs, however, is much easier to implement in only one process step. However, the desired high volume utilization is only given in a cylindrical housing and is reduced again in a summary of cells to modules. In a cuboid housing, however, a part of the housing volume remains unused, which corresponds to a lower energy density of the energy storage cell. A mechanical deformation of the electrode winding, z. B. by pressing, while possibly increasing the volume utilization and thus the energy density of the energy storage cell in such a housing, at the same time occur in the winding roundings but large mechanical loads, eg. B. in the form of tension, high wear and thus faster aging. The same problem is also known from the folding of the electrode films, in which the volume utilization of the housing is similar to the stacking. However, the mechanical material load in the folds of the folded stack is also undesirably large.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for producing an energy storage cell, a battery module with such energy storage cells and a corresponding vehicle, in which the energy density of the energy storage cell is as high as possible with a simple manufacturing process and low material load.
This object is achieved by the method for producing an energy storage cell according to claim 9 and a battery module with such energy storage cells and a corresponding vehicle.
The inventive method for producing an energy storage cell comprises the following steps: providing a housing which has a width and a depth; Providing at least one electrode winding having at least two electrodes wound around a winding axis, the electrode winding having a cross section with a width and a depth perpendicular to the winding axis, wherein the width of the cross section of the electrode winding is greater than the width of the housing and the depth of the cross section the electrode coil is at most as large as the depth of the housing; Separating at least a portion of the at least one electrode coil, whereby the width of the cross section of the electrode coil is reduced to a width which is at most as large as the width of the housing; and inserting the at least one electrode coil, whose cross-section has been reduced in width, into the housing.
A battery module according to the invention has two or more interconnected energy storage cells, which are produced by the method according to the invention.
A vehicle according to the invention, in particular a motor vehicle, has an electric drive or hybrid drive and at least one energy storage cell produced by the method according to the invention and / or at least one battery module with two or more energy storage cells produced by the method according to the invention.
A motor vehicle in the sense of the present invention is preferably a land vehicle that is not permanently savered, in particular a road vehicle, for example a passenger car, lorry, bus or motorcycle, which has a hybrid or electric drive in particular.
The method according to the invention for producing an energy storage cell is based on the approach of initially producing or providing an electrode winding whose cross section perpendicular to its winding axis in at least one dimension is greater than the cross section of a provided for receiving the roll, in particular cuboid, housing in this dimension. The electrode coil is then cut with a few cuts so that the cut electrode coil fits into the provided housing and fills it or at least better than an electrode coil whose cross-section perpendicular to its winding axis in each direction is smaller than the cross section of a provided, in particular cuboid, Housing and is inserted into this housing. In particular, in this case, the width of the cross section of the provided electrode coil is greater than the width of the provided parallelepiped housing, whereas the perpendicular to the width extending depth of the cross section of the electrode coil is chosen so that it fits into the housing, that is, the depth of the cross section of the provided electrode coil less than or equal to the depth of the housing. By cutting, in particular cutting, at least a portion of the electrode coil whose width is reduced to a width which is at most as large as the width of the cuboidal housing provided. The cut surface in this case preferably extends perpendicular to the direction of the width and parallel to the direction of the depth of the cross section of the electrode coil. By introducing the electrode coil cut in this way into the cuboid housing provided, the energy density, ie the electrochemical energy stored per volume of the energy storage cell, is significantly increased in comparison to an energy storage cell with a non-cut electrode winding in a parallelepiped housing with the same dimensions. A separation of two sections of the electrode coil leads to a particularly favorable volume utilization. In principle, however, increased volume utilization can already be achieved by separating a section of the electrode coil.
Compared with the production of an electrode stack, considerably fewer cuts are required in the method according to the invention. Further eliminates the stacking of the electrodes after cutting, since the electrodes of the electrode coil are wound in only one process step. Moreover, in the present method for reducing the width of the electrode coil, the curves and / or creases of the electrode coil can be partially or completely severed, so that no material stress occurs in the finished cell, which ensures a prolonged life of the finished energy storage cell and thus of particular Advantage is compared to the use of deformed electrode ensembles, the z. Example, by pressing an electrode coil in a cuboid shape or by folding electrode paths are obtained into a stack.
It is also possible with this method to cut two or more electrode coils and to integrate them together in a provided, in particular cuboid, housing. Preferably, the added depth of the electrode coil is less than or equal to the depth of the housing provided. That is, the electrode coils stacked along or lined up along their depth dimension, taken together, are not deeper than the housing. Preferably, the electrode coils are stacked and then cut together, wherein the width of the electrode coil is reduced according to the method described above by cutting the over the width of the housing protruding portions of the electrode coil to the width of the housing. The electrode wraps stacked along their depth or lined up and cut to size can then be integrated into the provided cuboidal housing.
Overall, the invention allows a simple production of energy storage cells with high energy density, the mechanical stress of the processed electrode material is low.
In a preferred embodiment of the method, at least two sections, in particular two opposite sections, of the electrode coil are severed, whereby the width of the cross section of the electrode coil is reduced to a width which is at most as large as the width of the housing. This allows an even more favorable volume utilization of the housing than in a separation of only a portion, so that the energy density is further increased.
In a further preferred embodiment of the method, the electrode winding provided is designed as a flat winding. A flat wrap is z. B. by winding an anode-cathode separator ensemble around a winding axis to a circular wrap and then flat pressing the circular wrap obtained. The outer shape of the flat coil then has two mutually substantially parallel large side surfaces, which are spaced from each other by the depth of the cross section of the electrode coil and are interconnected by two curves. Preferably, after separating the at least one section and inserting it into the housing, the side surfaces of the electrode winding are substantially parallel to the side walls of the housing. In particular, the side surfaces of the introduced into the housing electrode winding are in a particularly advantageous embodiment of the side walls of the housing, creating a particularly favorable Volume utilization and thus a further increase in energy density is achieved.
In a further, particularly preferred embodiment of the method, at least one of the curves, in particular both curves, of the electrode winding formed as a flat winding is severed, whereby the width of the cross section of the electrode coil is reduced to a width which is at most as large as the width of the housing , By separating, in particular, the two curves, the shape of the electrode coil, which was originally designed as a flat coil, becomes essentially cuboid, so that the cut-in electrode coil can substantially completely fill the volume of the housing after insertion into a parallelepipedal housing. In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the tailored electrode winding is applied to all inner side walls of the housing, which causes a particularly favorable volume utilization and thus a particularly high energy density.
In a likewise preferred embodiment of the method, at least two electrode windings designed as flat windings are stacked or lined up so that their large side surfaces are parallel to each other, the total depth of the cross section of the stacked electrode windings being at most as great as that Depth of the housing and the width of the cross section of the stacked or juxtaposed electrode coil is greater than the width of the housing. At least a portion of each of the stacked electrode coils is separated, thereby reducing the width of the cross section of the stacked electrode coils to a width which is at most as large as the width of the housing. The cut, stacked or juxtaposed electrode coils are then, preferably together, einacht in the housing. In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the large side surfaces of the two outermost electrode windings and the cut surfaces resulting from the separation of the sections of the electrode windings bear on the side walls of the housing provided, so that their volume is utilized particularly favorably and thus the energy density is increased even further. By separating regions of a plurality of stacked or lined electrode windings, in particular the use of housings with great depth is made possible, which further reduces the material requirement and the manufacturing costs in comparison to cells with only one integrated electrode winding. In a particularly preferred embodiment of the method, the housing provided is designed as a cuboid, so-called "prismatic" housing, which has two substantially parallel large-area side walls, which are interconnected by narrow side walls. In such a cuboid housing, it is particularly easy to adapt the cross section of the electrode coil by separating at least one section to the shape or the cross section of the housing, so that by introducing the cut electrode winding in the housing a particularly favorable volume utilization and thus a further increase the energy density is achieved. The volume utilization becomes particularly high if the shape of the cross section of the housing substantially corresponds to the cross section of the cut electrode winding, i. H. the large side surfaces of the electrode coil and the cut surfaces of the electrode coil resulting from the separation of the sections are substantially parallel to the inner side walls of the housing and abut against them.
In a further preferred embodiment of the method, the electrode winding is fixed before the separation of the at least one section in such a way that the windings of the electrode winding can not slip against each other during separation. Fixation can be achieved inter alia by clamping, gluing or bonding the windings of the electrode coil. In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the fixation after the separation of the at least one section is non-destructive solvable. By avoiding slippage or displacement of the windings during separation of the at least one section, it is ensured that the large side surfaces of the cut electrode winding rest particularly reliably on the large-area side walls of the housing after being introduced into the housing, and by separating the at least one section flush cut surfaces of the individual electrodes flush and reliably abut the narrow side walls of the housing.
In a further preferred embodiment of the method, one or more cut surfaces of the electrode coil resulting from the separation of the at least one section of the electrode coil are electrically insulated onto the cut surface by applying an electrically insulating material, for example a plastic film, a separator or a binder solution. This prevents in a simple manner that the individual electrode sections exposed by the separation of the at least one section of the electrode coil can short-circuit with one another or with the housing wall.
In a further, particularly preferred embodiment of the method for producing energy storage cells, the electrode winding has at least one cathode layer, one anode layer, and at least one separator layer disposed between the cathode layer and the anode layer, which are wound around the winding axis of the electrode coil. The cathode and anode are spatially and electrically separated from one another by the at least one separator layer. At the same time, the separator layer is permeable to ions involved in converting the chemical energy stored in the cell into electrical energy.
In a further preferred embodiment of the method for producing energy storage cells, the energy storage cell is designed as a lithium-ion cell. This ensures a particularly high energy storage density and thermal stability with low memory effect.
