Abstract
Device for stabilizing the nose after nasal surgery and nasal fractures Previously used in the medical field after operations and fractures of the nose nose rails for stabilizing the nose do not adapt to the application of the anatomy of the nose or pose a risk of injury to the patient in the form of burns or chemical burns when using thermoplastic or gypsum in itself. The new plastic splint should make it possible for the nose splint of the nose anatomy to be modeled accordingly and used without physical impairment. A flexible synthetic fiber matrix is impregnated with a UV-reactive plastic and modeled on the operated nose. In the attached as 1 embodiment, it is a prefabricated plastic rail in three different sizes. After adapting the plastic splint to the individual nose contour, the splint is irradiated with ultraviolet light, which hardens within a few seconds, depending on the intensity of the light used. The plastic splint is suitable for stabilizing the nose after nasal surgery and nasal fractures and offers an individual and gentle application.
Description
In the medical field it is known that nasal splints are used after nasal surgery and fractures to stabilize the nose. Here, the materials gypsum, aluminum rails or thermoplastics are optionally used.
The use of the materials as a nose bar bring several disadvantages. When using the material gypsum, the speed of curing of the material can not be controlled. Handling involves the risk of irritation or cauterization of the eyes. Added to this is the greasy consistency during processing. A nose rail made of plaster has a relatively high weight and is fragile and susceptible to moisture. The white coloring of the hardened plaster is visually very noticeable.
When using an aluminum nosepiece, it is not possible to model it to the individual nose shape of the patient. An individual cutting of the nose bar is complicated and time-consuming.
Thermoplastic rails require the use of heat. When hot, the treating physician has little time to model the splint on the patient's nose. Due to the required high heat development, the patient is at risk of burns.
These problems are solved by the features listed in the claim of using a flexible, UV-reactive plastic, which cures upon irradiation of ultraviolet light.
The advantages achieved by the invention are, in particular, that the disadvantages of the previously used materials of the nose bar are excluded and combines all the advantages of the previously used materials in itself. When using a flexible, UV-reactive plastic, the size of the splint can be individually tailored and modeled to fit the anatomy of the nose until the desired result is achieved. Using ultraviolet light, it is possible to control the hardening of the nosepiece and still allow post-corrections during the curing process. Unlike with the use of gypsum or thermoplastic materials, attachment to the patient is possible without any physical impairment, such as the risks of burns or irritation or burns. The low weight and insensitivity increase the comfort of the patient and does not restrict the freedom of movement. An individual color design of the nose bar can be realized by the use of various UV-reactive plastics. In the course of the healing process, the plastic splint can be reused and used at night as a nose guard.
