Description
The present invention describes a method and apparatus for removing contaminants, including inorganic contaminants, e.g. Dust and sand, and organic contaminants, e.g. Mold constituents, mold spores and bacteria, and for disinfection, i. for reducing the number of replicable germs, e.g. Fungi, spores or bacteria, of archival material, in particular of archival material in bound form, such as books.
Paper and the chemicals contained in paper and in the cover materials, e.g. Adhesives are for many molds a nearly ideal carrier and breeding ground. Causes of growth and multiplication processes of molds in archives are mainly dusty or soiled archival material, too high a relative humidity, an increased object humidity of the archival goods or accidents.
By mold, which is not combated in time, on the one hand, archive staff, especially allergy sufferers and people with weakened immune system, endangered. In addition, the mold is a danger to the archival material itself, since the cellulose contained in paper is degraded by the mold and thus greatly reduces the strength and mechanical stability of the paper.
In most cases today an intensive dry cleaning with sponges and brushes is carried out for mold removal. In this cleaning, the mold spores and other mold fungus components are mechanically removed in a safety cabinet. Although this decontamination method is considered an effective measure for the superficial removal of mold fungus structures. However, the dry cleaning is done by the sheet, so that this process is very time consuming and therefore costly. Another disadvantage is that this dry cleaning only leads to a superficial cleaning of the paper. Cleaning or disinfection within the paper structure is thus not achieved.
Another possibility for combating mold fungi is sterilization by irradiation with gamma rays, for example cobalt 60, or fumigation with ethylene oxide. Although mold spores are killed by a sufficiently high dose of gamma rays. During irradiation, however, the documents lose a considerable part of its strength. It therefore requires a precise assessment of the risk of whether infested papers are suitable for radiation at all. A fumigation with ethylene oxide has the disadvantage that residues of ethylene oxide are harmful and carcinogenic.
Furthermore, even after sterilization by irradiation with gamma rays or gassing with ethylene oxide, mechanical dry cleaning of the treated paper must always be performed to remove mold deposit, mold spores and other debris. Thus, the sterilization by gamma irradiation or gassing with ethylene oxide is not a fast and inexpensive method for de-matting of archived goods.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a simple, inexpensive and yet effective method of cleaning and disinfecting archived goods, such as e.g. Books, with the impurities and germs not only superficially, but also within the paper structure are removed. In addition, the process should be environmentally friendly and the burden on those involved in the process should be low.
These objects are achieved by the method according to claim 1. Further advantageous embodiments are described in the dependent claims 2 to 16. The invention further relates to a device according to
In a first aspect, the invention relates to a method for the removal of contaminants and / or for the disinfection of archival materials according to claim 1. The term "archives" describes archival goods, such. Books, files or single sheets. In particular, the term "archives" includes archival forms in bound form, such as e.g. Books, i. Archival goods each comprising a plurality of stacked paper pages, wherein the paper sides are joined together along one edge. In particular, the invention provides a method for removing contaminants and / or for disinfecting books.
The term "removal of impurities" includes the removal of inorganic impurities, such as e.g. Sand and / or dust, and the removal of organic contaminants, e.g. Mold components, mold spores, bacteria and / or insects and their remains. In the following, the removal of impurities is also called purification. The term "disinfecting" refers to the reduction in the number of replicable germs, such as e.g. Fungi, spores or bacteria, in particular by killing the germs and includes sterilization.
In the method according to the invention, in step (a), at least one archive is arranged in at least one planar area of a goods carrier in a container.
In a preferred embodiment, the container is closable in a gastight manner, so that neither during the treatment for cleaning and / or disinfection nor during subsequent optional method steps, such as e.g. a deacidification and / or drying of the archival materials described below, evaporated treatment liquid can escape from the container. This is particularly advantageous because it can reduce the cost of providing the treatment liquid and minimize the burden on the environment and people involved in cleaning.
In the container, at least one goods carrier with at least one flat product surface for receiving the archives, in particular fanned out archival materials arranged. In a preferred embodiment, a mandrel is further disposed in the container, preferably extending perpendicularly from the bottom of the container. In this embodiment, the goods carrier is held by the mandrel and the goods carrier has at least one, perpendicular to the mandrel extending flat commodity surface, which serves for receiving the archival, in particular a plurality of fanned out archives. It is also conceivable that the goods carrier has two or three commodity areas for receiving a plurality of fanned out archival materials. The goods surfaces are preferably flat surfaces which have a sieve-like structure, so that a treatment liquid can flow through the goods carriers. In a preferred embodiment, the goods carriers also have a plurality of subdivision surfaces, which extend perpendicular to the goods surfaces, and divide the goods areas into several sections, wherein an archive is arranged in each section.
It is further preferred that the article carrier can be removed from the container, outside the container with e.g. Books can be loaded and loaded into the container can be introduced. This is particularly advantageous since the goods carrier can be equipped with archives without a person having to reach into the container. In addition, a plurality of goods carriers may be provided for each container, so that while a stocked with archival goods carrier in the container and the archival materials are cleaned, the rest of the goods carriers can be equipped with archives or already cleaned archives can be removed from the product carriers.
However, it is also conceivable that the product carrier in a further preferred embodiment within the container with e.g. Books is stocked. This is particularly advantageous in large devices, since the weight of the loaded with books goods carrier would be so large that it could be difficult to move.
If the archive to be treated is a bound archive, then the archive is preferably set up fanned out on the goods area of the goods carrier. For individual sheets to be treated, the archive is fixed to the product carrier at least at one edge of the single sheet.
The archive is completely immersed in the treatment liquid for cleaning and / or disinfection. For this purpose, after the introduction of the archival into the container via an opening of the container, which in the lower container area, such as. the bottom of the container, treatment liquid has flowed from below into the container. This filling is preferably carried out slowly, in order to avoid damaging the archives, such as tearing out of paper pages, by excessive shear forces.
In a preferred embodiment, a device is further arranged in the container, by means of which the flow direction and / or speed of the treatment liquid flowing into the container can be controlled. In a particularly preferred embodiment, in which the container has a vertically extending mandrel and a horizontal goods surface, the device is arranged below the goods carrier, so that treatment liquid flowing into the container, flows through from below through the archives. This arrangement is particularly advantageous, since the flow flowing past from bottom to top of the archive can be particularly uniform and can possibly loosen stuck on the surface of the paper pages stuck dirt particles.
In a further preferred embodiment, a screen-like surface running parallel to the at least one product surface is arranged in the container in such a way that the treatment liquid flowing in first flows through the sieve-like surface before it comes into contact with archival materials arranged on the product carrier. Under a sieve-like surface is an area to understand having a plurality of openings through which the treatment liquid can pass. The arrangement of a sieve-like surface between the archives and the device for controlling the flow direction and / or speed is particularly advantageous if the device has only one or a few openings has, through which the treatment liquid flows centrally into the container. With an appropriate arrangement of the openings on the screen-like surface, the flow of the treatment liquid in the container can be controlled so that a uniform, ascending flow forms, which rises along the mandrel and flows through the archives evenly.
Furthermore, at least one fan nozzle and preferably a plurality of fan nozzles for injecting a treatment liquid are arranged in the container. The product carrier and the fan nozzle (s) can be moved relative to each other so that in step (b) of the method according to the invention in each archival through at least one fan nozzle the treatment liquid through the side facing away from the bound or fixed edge side of the archives in the direction of bound or can be injected fixed edge. In other words, either the product carrier or the fan nozzle (s) or the goods carrier and the fan nozzle (s) can be moved so that each Archivale, which is arranged on the goods carrier, with its side facing away from the bound or fixed edge side at least a fan nozzle can be passed, that the sprayed from the fan nozzle treatment liquid substantially parallel to the individual pages of the archives in eg the book is injected. This is particularly advantageous since not only the outer regions of the sides come into contact with the treatment liquid, but the paper sides are contacted completely up to the bond and thus cleaned.
In a preferred embodiment, a plurality of fan nozzles are disposed on an inner wall of the container and inject the treatment liquid along planes that are parallel to the direction of extension of the mandrel. In other words, the compartments of treatment liquid injected from the fan nozzles in the direction of the archives into the container are parallel to the bound or fixed edges of the archival and paper pages. This will ensure that the pages are completely cleaned, cleaned and decontaminated. The container is cylindrical in a preferred embodiment, the at least one product surface is circular and the product carrier is rotationally driven about an axis of rotation formed by the mandrel. In this preferred embodiment, the relative movement of the goods carrier and the fan nozzles to each other can be designed in a particularly simple manner. The fan nozzles may be fixedly secured to the inner wall of the container while the shelf is rotating about the mandrel located centrally in the container. The arranged on the product surface archival materials have in this embodiment, with their bound edges on the spin axis formed by the mandrel. In this way, a large number of archives can be thoroughly cleaned in a particularly small space. In this case, it is preferable to rotate the product carrier initially by 270 ° in one direction and then by 180 ° in the other direction about the axis of rotation. The rotation of the product carrier is particularly advantageous because a relative movement between the product carrier and the fan nozzles can be generated in a simple manner, through which the treatment liquid can be injected into each book through at least one of the fan nozzles.
In a further embodiment, the mandrel has openings through which treatment liquid can flow into the interior of the container. In this embodiment, therefore, it is preferable that the rear side facing the mandrel of the bound edge of the archives, that is, e.g. the back of the book, flowing with treatment liquid. This allows a particularly intensive contact and thus cleaning the spine.
In order to clean a larger number of archives, it is alternatively preferred that the at least one fabric surface is rectangular and that the fan nozzles are horizontally displaceably driven. It is preferred that the fabric area be significantly longer than it is wide, with the width chosen to be approximately the depth of a fanned-out archive. The bound or fixed edges of the archives each have to one of the two longer outsides of the goods area. It is particularly preferred to arrange the archives in such a way that, in the case of adjacent archives, the bound edges face opposite outer edges of the fabric surface. The fan nozzles are guided in this preferred embodiment of the goods carrier, which rests itself. This embodiment is particularly advantageous because it allows to choose the size of the container and the goods area arbitrarily large, so that even large numbers of archives can be cleaned at the same time. At the same time, only a few fan nozzles are necessary, as they can be moved along the longer side of the fabric surface and can be treated in this way with a few fan nozzles many archival materials.
In step (c) of the method according to the invention, at least part of the treatment liquid is removed from the container after contacting the paper. For this purpose, the container preferably has an opening, which is particularly preferably arranged in the region of the bottom of the container.
The discharged treatment liquid is eg by means of a circulation pump to a device for separating solids, such as a filter, in which, in step (d), the contaminants and / or seeds removed from the paper are removed from the treatment liquid to provide a regenerated treatment liquid. The apparatus for separating solids is preferably suitable, solids having a particle size of less than 15 microns, especially less than 5 microns, more preferably less than 0.5 microns, such as 0.01 to 0.5 microns or 0.001 to 0, 5 microns to remove. The particle size is measured in particular by means of laser diffractometry.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, a filter is used as the device for separating solids. The filter preferably has a mesh size of less than 15 microns, preferably less than 5 microns, more preferably less than 0.5 microns, such as. 0.01 to 0.5 μm or 0.001 to 0.5 μm. The term "mesh size" refers to the size of the openings of the filter. Such a mesh size is particularly advantageous, as in this way even small impurities, e.g. Dust grains, and in particular mold spores can be separated, which would otherwise be registered again in the paper of archives and there again after long rest breaks active and thus could lead to a mold again.
Particularly preferred as a filter in step (d) is a particulate filter such as e.g. Membrane filter, used. Preferably, the membrane filter has a pore size of less than 15 μm, preferably less than 5 μm, more preferably less than 0.5 μm, e.g. 0.01 to 0.5 μm or 0.001 to 0.5 μm, on. The term "pore size" refers to the nominal pore size of a membrane filter, i. the maximum in the pore size distribution curve determined by mercury porosimetry.
In step (e) of the method according to the invention, the regenerated treatment liquid is returned to the container. Preferably, the regenerated treatment liquid is returned via the fan nozzle (s) and / or possibly the hollow mandrel into the container.
Preferably, in the method of the present invention, the contacting of the archive with treatment liquid in step (b), the discharge of treatment liquid in step (c), the separation of solids in step (d) and the return of the regenerated treatment liquid to the container in step (e) continuously. In other words, steps (b) to (e) become parallel, i. at the same time. As a result, the process according to the invention can be operated particularly economically without long set-up times in a circulation process.
The treatment liquid used in the process preferably contains a carrier substance and possibly a disinfectant.
In a preferred embodiment, the carrier comprises a solvent having (i) a surface tension of less than 0.072 N / m, preferably less than 0.020 N / m, more preferably less than 0.015 N / m, such as 0.010 to 0.020 N / m, (ii) a polarity of less than 150 kJ / mol, such as 20 to 150 kJ / mol or 30 to 40 kJ / mol, on the E T (30) scale and / or (iii) a boiling point of less than 100 ° C, preferably less than 70 ° C, more preferably less than 60 ° C, such as 50 to 60 ° C.
The surface tension is measured at room temperature and ambient pressure, in particular by means of the capillary effect. For example, a cathetometer is suitable for measuring the rise in the capillary. The boiling point is determined at a standard pressure of 1.01325 bar.
Preferably, the vehicle comprises a solvent having properties (i) to (iii).
More preferably, the solvent is an alkane or fluorinated alkane having a molar mass greater than 72 g / mol, such as 72 to 300 g / mol, and is preferably selected from the group consisting of pentane, hexane, heptane, decafluoropentane, and mixtures thereof ,
Furthermore, it is particularly preferred that the solvent is 1,1,1,2,2,3,4,5,5,5-decafluoropentane.
Such solvents have the advantage that they can penetrate very well into the usual paper structures in order to remove impurities, such as e.g. Dust, sand, fungal spores or bacteria to remove, and then without residue can be removed from the paper again.
If not only a cleaning of the archival materials is desired, but also an acute mold infestation is to be treated, the treatment liquid comprises in addition to the carrier substance in a preferred embodiment a disinfectant. It is preferred that the disinfectant is soluble in the vehicle and is preferably selected from the group consisting of methanol, ethanol, isopropanol and mixtures thereof.
All in all, the object underlying the invention is thus achieved by a method in which preferably a plurality of archives fanned out and is contacted with a treatment liquid, wherein the contaminated treatment liquid is then regenerated by filtration and recycled for further purification purposes. Thus, a cost-effective method is provided in which in a relatively short time and space saving a variety of archives, such as books, cleaned and can be cleared of molds and other germs.
In a further preferred embodiment, a process for the deacidification of the archival materials is carried out following the inventive method for cleaning and / or disinfection. For this purpose, the archives according to the inventive method preferably remain in the container and step (b) of the method according to the invention is carried out with a treatment liquid containing at least one deacidifying agent.
Thus, not only a cleaning and / or disinfection of archives, but also a deacidification of the archives can be achieved by the inventive method.
Der Entsäuerungswirkstoff ist vorzugsweise ausgewählt aus der Gruppe bestehend aus Alkali- und Erdalkalimetallverbindungen und insbesondere aus der Gruppe bestehend aus Magnesiumoxid, Magnesiumcarbonat, Magnesiumhydrogencarbonat, Magnesiumhydroxid, Calciumoxid, Calciumcarbonat, Calciumhydrogencarbonat, Calciumhydroxid, Bariumoxid, Bariumcarbonat, Bariumhydrogencarbonat, Bariumhydroxid, Natriumhydroxid, Natriumhydrogencarbonat, Natriumcarbonat, Kaliumhydroxid, Kaliumhydrogencarbonat, Kaliumcarbonat und Mischungen davon. The deacidifying agent is preferably selected from the group consisting of alkali and alkaline earth metal compounds and in particular from the group consisting of magnesium oxide, magnesium carbonate, magnesium bicarbonate, magnesium hydroxide, calcium oxide, calcium carbonate, calcium bicarbonate, calcium hydroxide, barium oxide, barium carbonate, barium bicarbonate, barium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate , Potassium hydroxide, potassium hydrogencarbonate, potassium carbonate and mixtures thereof.
Furthermore, it is advantageous for a deacidification of the archives, when the archives are contacted with a gas, while they are in contact with the treatment liquid. For this purpose, in a preferred embodiment, gas vents are arranged below the goods carrier such that gas flowing out of the gas vents flows through the fanned-out books. Provide gas vent is particularly advantageous because the outflowing gas can interact with the treatment liquid, and in this way the books can be deacidified even more thoroughly. With a suitable arrangement of the gas vents, the flow flowing through the books is also intensified, so that additionally particles which are present in the treatment liquid are prevented from depositing on the surface of the pages to be deacidified.
In a further preferred embodiment, drying of the archival materials is carried out following the process according to the invention for purifying and / or removing germs or optionally following the deacidification. Preferably, this drying is carried out in the container itself. In one embodiment, the mandrel disposed in the container is hollow and has a plurality of openings through which gas can flow into the container for drying the archival materials. It is conceivable that these openings can be closed when the container is filled with a treatment liquid. It is also conceivable that the mandrel is connected directly to a hot air blower, which can blow warm or hot air through the mandrel to dry the archives into the container. For drying, hot gas, such as warm air, is particularly preferably supplied through the fan nozzle (s), the hollow mandrel and the opening in the lower region of the container, through which the treatment liquid has flowed into the container.

According to a second aspect, the invention relates to a device for carrying out the method according to the invention. The device comprises

Preferred embodiments of the device are described above in connection with the representation of the method according to the invention.
For example, the device according to the invention is preferably characterized in that the container has a mandrel and the majority of fanned out archival materials are arranged on at least one, perpendicular to the mandrel, flat product surface of the goods carrier, wherein the goods carrier is held by the mandrel.
It is also preferable that the treatment liquid in this embodiment is mainly injected along planes that are parallel to the extension direction of the mandrel.
As described above, the container may be cylindrical and the at least one fabric surface may be circular and the product carrier may be rotationally driven about a spin axis formed by the mandrel to provide relative ease of movement of the product carrier and the fan nozzles to one another in a particularly simple manner. Alternatively, the at least one fabric surface may be rectangular and the fan nozzles may be horizontally displaceable to clean a larger number of archival materials.
The invention thus also relates to the use of a device according to the invention for cleaning and / or disinfection, in particular for the removal of molds and mold spores, of archival materials in bound form, such as books.
