Description
The invention relates to a method for operating a virtual reality glasses and a system with a virtual reality glasses.
A virtual reality goggle is a particular form of a so-called head-mounted display, which is a head-worn visual output device. It presents images on a near-eye screen or projects them directly onto the retina. A virtual reality glasses additionally has sensors for detecting the movement of the head. Thus, the display of the calculated graphics can be adapted to the movements of the wearer of the glasses. Due to the physical proximity, the displayed image areas of head-mounted displays are considerably larger than the free-standing screens and, in extreme cases, even cover the entire field of vision of the user. Since the display follows all the head movements of the wearer through the head posture, he gets the feeling to move directly in an image landscape created by a computer.
By means of such virtual reality glasses, therefore, a virtual reality can be represented, whereby as a virtual reality usually the representation and simultaneous perception of reality in its physical properties in a real-time computer-generated, interactive virtual environment is called.
In a virtual reality environment, a particular challenge is to provide a convenient way of interacting to determine the virtual position of the wearer of such glasses to an object represented by the virtual reality glasses. In particular, free movements within the represented virtual reality, brought about for example via a controller or joystick, can quickly lead to nausea in the wearer of a virtual reality glasses, since during the virtual movement a contradiction between the visual impressions and the non-taking motion feedback of the organ of balance arises in the inner ear.
Furthermore, it is difficult for a wearer of virtual reality glasses to estimate how his line of sight changes to a displayed virtual object if he changes his viewing position within the virtual environment.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a method for operating a virtual reality glasses and a system with a virtual reality glasses, by means of which an improved change in the virtual position of a wearer of the glasses within a virtual reality -Glasses displayed virtual environment.
This object is achieved by a method for operating a virtual reality glasses and by a system with a virtual reality glasses with the features of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments with expedient and non-trivial developments of the invention are specified in the dependent claims.
In the method according to the invention for operating a virtual reality goggle, at least one virtual object arranged in a virtual environment is displayed by means of the virtual reality goggles from a first observation position predetermined within the virtual environment. Furthermore, at least one position symbol is displayed at a position within the virtual environment which corresponds to a second observation position specified within the virtual environment. In addition, a virtual standard view direction starting from the second observation position is marked on the virtual object. The displayed position symbol is selected as soon as a predetermined selection action has been detected. Moreover, the virtual object is displayed from the second observation position as soon as a predetermined confirmation action with respect to the selected position symbol has been detected.
In other words, it is thus provided according to the invention that a wearer of virtual reality glasses can move from a predetermined observation position to another observation position within the virtual environment, in particular jumping, by selecting a correspondingly displayed position symbol and confirming its selection. In this case, one or more possible jump positions in the form of the displayed position symbol or further position symbols can be displayed in their spatially correct position within the virtual environment. In other words, the given observation positions are virtual points of view at which the wearer of the virtual reality glasses is virtually within the displayed virtual environment, the virtual reality glasses or their display device being controlled in such a way that For the wearer of the virtual reality glasses, the impression arises that he is currently looking at the virtual object from the correspondingly predetermined viewing position.
The problem mentioned at the outset, which can occur with free movements within a virtual reality, is remedied by the solution according to the invention, since the wearer of the Virtual reality glasses no longer move freely within the displayed virtual environment according to his visual perception. Instead, by virtue of the method according to the invention, the wearer of the virtual reality glasses can jump from one virtual observation position to the next and thus change his virtual position within the displayed virtual environment abruptly and thus also change the perspective of the virtual object being displayed abruptly. This avoids a contradiction between the visual impressions and the actual motion feedback of the balance organ of the wearer of the virtual reality glasses, whereby the occurrence of nausea in a wearer of the virtual reality glasses can be avoided.
Due to the identification of the standard viewing direction, which emanates from the second viewing position, the solution according to the invention also makes a user wearing the virtual reality glasses recognizable before activating or confirming the virtual position change, in which position he is after the position change and how he will look at the virtual object from this new virtual observation position.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the selection of the displayed position symbol takes place, as soon as the predetermined selection action has been detected, that a selection symbol displayed within the virtual environment has been at least partially brought into coincidence with the displayed position symbol. The movement of the selection symbol can accordingly control the wearer of the virtual reality glasses and thus effect the selection of the displayed position symbol in a particularly simple and comfortable way. The displayed selection symbol, which is also to be understood as a selection symbol, may be, for example, a crosshair, a mouse pointer or the like.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the selection icon is moved in response to a detected head movement of a wearer of the virtual reality glasses within the virtual environment. For example, the virtual reality goggles may comprise a combination of a 3-axis gyrometer and acceleration sensors by means of which the head movement of the wearer of the virtual reality goggles can be reliably detected. By moving the selection icon in response to the detected head movement of the wearer within the virtual environment. The selection symbol can be moved in a particularly simple and convenient manner by the wearer of the virtual reality glasses within the virtual environment.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the selection symbol is moved in dependence on a detected eye movement of the wearer of the virtual reality glasses within the virtual environment. For this purpose, the virtual reality goggles can have, for example, a detection device which is designed to detect the eye movements, in particular the viewing direction of the wearer of the virtual reality goggles. In the case of an eye movement-controlled movement of the selection symbol within the virtual environment, there is the particular advantage that the selection symbol can be moved particularly quickly and easily. The movement of the selection symbol can also take place both as a function of the detected head movement and of the detected eye movement of the wearer of the virtual reality glasses. This results in a particularly convenient and intuitive control option of the selection symbol for the wearer of the virtual reality glasses. Because the wearer of the virtual reality glasses just has to look at the relevant position icon, which is displayed to him in the virtual environment to select the position icon.
In a further advantageous refinement of the invention, it is provided that the marking of the virtual standard viewing direction starting from the second observation position takes place on the virtual object in that the selection symbol has a directional character which is aligned with the virtual object as soon as the second observation position Selection symbol has been at least partially brought into coincidence with the displayed position symbol. The directional sign can be displayed, for example, in the form of an arrowhead, an arrow, a triangle or the like, so that the wearer of the virtual reality goggles can easily recognize with which viewing direction the viewing position originates after a position jump to the displayed virtual Object will look.
In accordance with a further alternative advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the marking of the standard viewing direction starting from the second observation position to the virtual object takes place in that the position symbol has a directional character which is aligned with the virtual object from the second viewing position. As a result, it is likewise possible for a wearer of the virtual reality glasses to be able to easily recognize with which viewing direction he will look at the virtual object from the second observation position as soon as he has made a change of position from the first to the second observation position.
It can be provided that the directional sign is only displayed when the position icon has been selected. As a result, the wearer of the virtual reality glasses is additionally provided the information that he has just selected the position symbol. Alternatively, it is also possible that the directional sign is always displayed together with the position symbol. In this case, the advantage is that, as soon as the position symbol is displayed, the user always gets to see how he will look at the displayed virtual object after a change of position from the first to the second observation position.
In a further advantageous refinement of the invention, it is provided that the marking of the virtual standard viewing direction starting from the second observation position takes place on the virtual object in a plane spanned by the longitudinal direction and the transverse direction of the virtual environment. In other words, a wearer of the virtual reality glasses thus receives a two-dimensional direction information when marking the standard viewing direction.
A further advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the respective virtual viewing angle, from which the virtual object is displayed starting from the respective viewing positions, is changed as a function of a detected pivoting position of the head of the wearer of the virtual reality glasses. The user can thus by pivoting his head up or down or to the left or right change its respective virtual view of the currently displayed virtual object. This results in a particularly simple control of the virtual reality glasses, which according to the pivoting movement of the wearer's head according to the following changes the angle of view on the currently displayed virtual object.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the virtual viewing direction and the virtual standard viewing direction coincide when the detected pivoting position of the head corresponds to a predetermined standard pivoting position. For example, it is possible to proceed in such a way that the wearer of the virtual reality glasses initially performs a kind of calibration procedure by moving his head into the head posture after putting the virtual reality glasses into place, which corresponds to his standard head posture. Subsequently, this standard head posture is stored as the default pivot position. Thus, if the wearer of the virtual reality glasses assumes this standard orientation of his head again after a position jump from the first to the second observation position, then the virtual viewing direction just indicated corresponds to the previously indicated virtual standard viewing direction.
Preferably, a motor vehicle is displayed as the virtual object, wherein the position symbol is arranged and displayed outside or inside the motor vehicle. The wearer of the virtual reality glasses can thus jump from one virtual observation position to the next and look at the virtual motor vehicle from various perspectives. He can also jump into a virtual observation position within the motor vehicle, for example, to display the interior of the driver's seat or from other seating positions within the motor vehicle. As a result, it is no longer necessary, for example, in sales outlets or salesrooms for motor vehicles to provide a variety of different motor vehicle variants with a wide variety of optional extras, since a potential customer is particularly easily equipped with virtual reality goggles of variously equipped vehicle variants from inside and outside as well can show from different angles.
The system according to the invention comprises a virtual reality goggle which is designed to display at least one virtual object arranged in a virtual environment from a first observation position predetermined within the virtual environment.
