Derzeit werden Felgen an den Fahrzeugen benutzt, welche vor allem die Aufgabe erfüllen, die Kräfte vom Fahrzeug an den festen Untergrund übertragen und dadurch die Fortbewegung des Fahrzeugs sicher ermöglichen. Es gibt verschiedene Formen (Design), die alle diese Grundforderung erfüllen. Diese Idee mit Luftführung bereichert eine herkömmliche Felge oder Radkappe um eine neue Eigenschaft, die zur höheren Bremswirkung und Luftausspülung des Radinneren beiträgt. Luftkanäle in Speichen einer Felge oder Luftführungsrippen in Zwischenwand einer Radkappe sind für diese neue Eigenschaft verantwortlich. Besonders bei der Felge bedeutet die Luftführung in Speichen Gewichtreduzierung (bis zu ca. 30% möglich).
