Zug-Druck-Stäbe stellen starre Verbindungen zwischen Bauteilen dar, die hohe axiale Kräfte übertragen. Treten Überlasten auf, können diese entweder brechen oder verbundene Bauteile beschädigen. Um dies zu vermeiden, sollen Überlastsicherungen eine dauerhafte Verformung des Zug-Druck-Stabes verhindern, beziehungsweise an einem auswechselbaren Abschnitt vorsehen und eine Beschädigung weiterer Bauteile verhindern. Hierbei soll nach Auslösen einer derartigen Überlastsicherung noch eine ausreichende mechanische Verbindung zwischen den durch den Zug-Druck-Stab verbundenen Bauteilen erhalten bleiben. Beispielsweise muss eine Spurstange eines Kraftfahrzeugs bei auftretenden Stößen nachgeben, um Radträger und Lenkgetriebe zu schützen. Gleichzeitig darf die Verbindung zwischen Lenkhebel und Kraftfahrzeug nicht unterbrochen werden, um zumindest eine eingeschränkte Manövrierbarkeit des Kraftfahrzeugs zu erhalten. Nach hinreichend bekanntem Stand der Technik werden zur Überlastsicherung von Zug-Druck-Stäben einerseits Wellrohre und andererseits Abschersicherungen eingesetzt. Ein Wellrohr verformt sich bei zu hoher axialer Belastung dauerhaft und wird bei Druckbelastung kürzer und bei Zugbelastung länger. Insbesondere bei einer einzuhaltenden Länge des Zug-Druck-Stabs beispielsweise einer Spurstange eines Kraftfahrzeugs kann ein Wellrohr lediglich als einmalige Schutzvorrichtung verwendet und muss danach ausgetauscht werden. Eine Abschersicherung ist eine Konsole, in der ein festes Abscherelement einen Kolben sichert. Bei hoher Druckbelastung wird dieses Abscherelement abgeschert und der Kolben verschiebt sich bis zu einem vorgegebenen Anschlag der Konsole. Der Zug-Druck-Stab kann damit um eine vorgegebene Strecke in Druckrichtung nachgeben, ohne dabei dauerhaft verformt zu werden.
