Description

The invention relates to a method for storing gases, in particular natural gas.

At present, gases, in particular natural gas, are stored and transported in two states of aggregation, namely as compressed gas (CNG) or in the liquefied, low-temperature state (LNG). When stored as compressed gas, the natural gas is usually compressed to a pressure of at least 200 bar and filled in compressed gas storage or container. These have due to the required solid construction, a comparatively high weight and thereby limit the amount to be transported, since the usually used CNG trailer are subjected to weight restrictions. When stored as a liquid product, although the density of the medium is higher, but the liquefaction requires a relatively high energy expenditure. In addition, the transport container due to the necessary vacuum insulation structurally relatively expensive. Furthermore, transport is only partially possible due to the current ADR (European Agreement concerning the Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road). The transport of natural gas is therefore often not economically viable, since the transport quantities are limited or required for the production of the liquid product effort is too high.

The object of the present invention is to provide a generic method for storing gases, in particular natural gas, which avoids the aforementioned disadvantages.

To solve this problem, a method for storing gases, in particular natural gas, proposed, which is characterized in that the gas is stored above its critical point, the storage temperature at most 5 K above the critical temperature of the gas and the accumulator pressure a maximum of 30 bar is above the critical pressure of the gas.

If the gas to be stored is natural gas, it is stored according to the invention at a pressure between 46 and 80 bar, preferably between 48 and 50 bar, and at a temperature between -75 and -88 ° C, preferably between -80 and -85 ° C.

According to the invention storage and transport in an aggregate state, which is located between the above-mentioned states "gaseous and" liquid "in the so-called. Supercritical state. This procedure makes it possible to store and transport larger quantities more cost-effectively, whereby the energy disadvantage occurring when the gas-liquid phase boundary is exceeded can be avoided.

The storage of natural gas is preferably carried out at a supercritical pressure of 46 to 80 bar and at a supercritical temperature of up to -86 ° C. This allows natural gas to be stored and transported in a pressure vessel designed for a maximum pressure of 50 bar. This results in particular in an increase in the transport quantity, since such pressure vessels have a substantially lower mass in comparison to the compressed gas accumulators previously used.

Instead of the previously used compressed gas storage and storage tanks with vacuum insulation can now constructively less expensive storage tank, which have a conventional insulation, for example. In the form of PU insulation, are used.

The inventive method for storing gases, in particular natural gas, has the following advantages over the prior art methods:
  • - Higher transport capacity compared to CNG storage
  • - Lower energy consumption compared to LNG storage
  • - No restrictions due to the current ADR
