Bisher hilft man sich eher durch vergleichsweise einfache wie uneffektive Tricks, indem man z. B. angefeuchtetes Papier um die unteren Stängelenden wickelt, um ein wenn auch unzureichendes Minimum an Wasserversorgung an dem hierfür entscheidenden Punkt, nämlich den Stängelenden zu erreichen. Bekannt sind auch kleine Kunststoffröhrchen zur Aufnahme von Wasser mit einem eine Öffnung aufweisenden und mit dem Blumenstängel zu durchdringendes Hütchen am offenen Ende dieses Röhrchens. Diese Röhrchen sind allerdings nur zur Aufnahme einzelner Blumen und somit dann auch völlig ungeeignet, wenn Schnittblumen – wie in den allermeisten Fällen – in größeren Mengen transportiert werden müssen. Völlig ungeeignet ist auch der Transport in mit Wasser gefüllten Behältnissen, etwa in Gläsern oder Eimern, zumal Blumen häufig z. B. in PKW transportiert werden und sich keine Möglichkeit bietet, dieses Behältnis gegen Umkippen oder zumindest davor zu sichern, dass größere Mengen des Wassers ausgeschüttet werden.
