In modernen Kraftfahrzeugen werden Airbags nicht nur wie bisher üblich im Bereich einer Armaturentafel oder eines Lenkrades verbaut, sondern zunehmend auch im Bereich der Seitentüren oder als Knieairbag. Knieairbags befinden sich im unteren Teile einer Armaturentafel und sollen sowohl ein Aufschlagen der Schienbeine auf die Armaturentafel als auch das Durchrutschen unter dem Sicherheitsgurt zuverlässig verhindern. Knieairbags sind dabei üblicherweise nur auf der Fahrerseite eingebaut, als Zusatzausstattung jedoch auch für die Beifahrerseite erhältlich. Schwierigkeiten bei Knieairbags bestehen insbesondere in deren Montage, was bisher einen vergleichsweise hohen Aufwand erfordert. Die vorliegende Erfindung beruht auf dem allgemeinen Gedanken, eine Montagehilfe zur erleichterten Montage eines Knieairbags an einem Strukturquerträger anzugeben. Diese Montagehilfe ist in der Art von Hakenelementen ausgebildet, mittels welchen der Knieairbag zur Montage zunächst eingehängt und erst in einem weiteren Arbeitsschritt festgeschraubt wird, so dass ein aufwändiges Halten während des eigentlichen Schraubvorgangs entfällt und sich die Montage dadurch erheblich erleichtert. Das erfindungsgemäße Kraftfahrzeug weist einen im Bereich einer A-Säule in Fahrzeugquerrichtung verlaufenden Strukturquerträger einer Karosserie auf, an welchem der Knieairbag über zwei Befestigungsstellen brückenartig befestigt ist. Erfindungsgemäß weist dabei der Strukturquerträger an jeder Befestigungsstelle eine Einschrauböffnung sowie ein Hakenelement auf, wogegen der Knieairbag an jeder Befestigungsstelle eine zur Einschrauböffnung am Strukturquerträger fluchtende erste Öffnung sowie eine zweite Öffnung aufweist, wobei in der zweiten Öffnung das strukturträgerseitige Hakenelement eingehängt werden kann. Denkbar ist selbstverständlich auch, dass das Hakenelement nicht am Strukturquerträger, sondern am Knieairbag angeordnet und die zweite Öffnung in diesem Fall am Strukturquerträger vorgesehen wird. Durch die erfindungsgemäße Ausbildung lässt sich nicht nur die Montage des Knieairbags deutlich vereinfachen, sondern zudem kann auch eine Reduzierung einer Knieairbaganbindung auf maximal zwei Befestigungsstellen bzw. zwei Befestigungspunkte inkl. einer Montagevorfixierung erreichen. Die bisher erforderlichen, weiteren Schrauben zur Festlegung des Knieairbags am Strukturquerträger können durch das erfindungsgemäß vorgesehene Hakenelement entfallen, das im Zusammenwirken mit einer entsprechenden Schrauben eine leichte und zugleich sichere Fixierung des Knieairbags am Strukturquerträger erlaubt.
