Unter Umgebungsluft wird das natürlich vorkommende Gasgemisch der Erdatmosphäre verstanden, das hauptsächlich aus den zwei Gasen Stickstoff und Sauerstoff und einem Anteil Wasserdampf besteht. Mit anderen Worten erzeugen die Drucklufterzeugungsmittel Druckluft unmittelbar aus der natürlich vorkommenden Luft in der Umgebung der Drucklufterzeugungsmittel. Weiter ist ein Druckluftspeicher zum Speichern der erzeugten Druckluft vorgesehen, wobei der Druckluftspeicher ein herkömmlicher Gasspeicher ist, wie er beispielsweise auch als Gasometer bekannt ist.
