Bevorzugt weist das Verstärkungsblech im Flanschbereich in Längsrichtung des Flansches gesehen mehrere Ausbuchtungen abwechselnd zum einen Blechbauteil und zum anderen Blechbauteil hin auf, sodass im Flansch beide Blechbauteile ausschließlich an den Ausbuchtungen des Verstärkungsblechs anliegen. Zur Erhöhung der Steifigkeit wird dabei zusätzlich häufig ein Verstärkungsblech zwischen dem Innenblech und dem Außenblech verbaut, das dann in dem Flansch mit dem Innenblech und dem Außenblech verbunden ist. Der Flansch dient zudem häufig als Aufnahme für eine Dichtung, die auf den Flansch aufsteckbar ist. Deshalb werden trotz unterschiedlicher Steifigkeitsanforderungen teilweise die gleichen Innen- und Außenschalen bei den gleichen Baugruppen verwendet. Den unterschiedlichen Steifigkeitsanforderungen wird Rechnung getragen durch den Einsatz unterschiedlich dicker Verstärkungsbleche. Damit aber auch die gleichen Dichtungen auf den Flansch zwischen Innen- und Außenschale und Verstärkungsblech aufgesteckt werden können, ist eine gleichbleibende Flanschdicke erforderlich. Dies ist bei einer erfindungsgemäßen Fahrzeugkarosserie mit einem Flansch kein Problem, da bei dickeren Verstärkungsblechen die Ausbuchtungen entsprechend kleiner gehalten werden können, sodass eine größere Dicke eines Verstärkungsblechs durch entsprechend kleinere Ausbuchtungen kompensiert werden kann.
