Description
The present invention relates to a method for the biological control of pest organisms in a agricultural, horticultural or forestry plant population by spreading beneficial organisms.
Such methods are known and used in numerous designs. They are becoming increasingly important, particularly in view of the findings on negative "side effects" of conventional crop protection chemicals. A typical example of application is the application of eggs of the parasitic wasp Trichogramma in maize stocks to control the European corn borer by hatching wasp larvae hatching from the eggs and parasitising the European corn borer.
According to the state of the art, the beneficial organisms - such as the eggs of the parasitic wasp Trichogramma - are applied in suitable specific application units in the respective plant population. In this respect, for example, specific glued pendants to be attached to individual plants ("Trichosafe " ® of the Applicant) with the cavities receiving the beneficial insect have proven successful. Also known are small folded cardboard boxes and glued frames other suppliers (see "Trichobox" ® and "Trichocap" ® Fa. Landi Reba), which are also attached to individual plants. Also in use are the beneficial insect eggs receiving cavities Ausbringkugeln ("Trichosafe" ® the Applicant) or capsules ("Trichocap" ® Fa. Landi Reba), which are stored on the floor of the plant population.

The present invention aims to make methods for biological control of pest organisms of the type specified in the beginning more efficient in the sense that the benefit / cost ratio is further increased.
Erzeugen eines Vorrats an Nützlingsorganismen in Form von schlupffähigen Eiern von Schlupfwespen;
Erzeugen eines Vorrats an eine reliefartige, mit muldenartigen Vertiefungen ausgeführte Oberflächenstruktur aufweisenden Trägersubstratpartikeln aus Maisspindelgranulat mit einer mittleren Korngröße von zwischen 1 mm und 15 mm;
Erzeugen einer Ausbringformulierung durch Applizieren der schlupffähigen Eier von Schlupfwespen an der Oberfläche des Maisspindelgranulats in dessen muldenartigen Vertiefungen;
This problem is solved according to the present invention by a method comprising the following steps for the biological control of pest organisms of the type specified in the introduction:
Generating a supply of beneficial organisms in the form of hatchable eggs of parasitic wasps;
Producing a supply of a relief-like, with trough-like depressions executed surface structure having carrier substrate particles of corncob granules having a mean grain size of between 1 mm and 15 mm;
Generating a spreading formulation by applying the hatchable eggs of parasitic wasps to the surface of the corncob pellets in its trough-like depressions;
Application of the application formulation in a agricultural, horticultural or forestry plant stock.
In combinatorial interaction with the other characteristics characteristic of the present invention, it is thus particularly significant for the method according to the invention for biological pest control that, in the context of the production of a spreading formulation, the beneficial organisms in the form of hatchable eggs of parasitoid wasps on the outside, i. H. on the outer surface of carrier beads particles produced from corncob granules having a mean grain size of between 1 mm and 15 mm, in the region of trough-like depressions provided in the relief-like surface structure of the carrier substrate particles. This results in quite a surprising manner in several advantages, which in terms of efficiency of the entire pest control process in a synergetic manner increase efficiency.
Thus, for example, an efficiency-increasing effect is that in the application of the present invention, a hitherto not economically representable density of the points at which beneficials are released, and thus a particularly homogeneous application can be realized. This is due in part to the fact that suitable for various applications, produced from corncob granules carrier substrate can procure at minimal cost and also the production of Ausbringformulierung is extremely economical. Corn spindle granules are particularly cost-effective as a carrier substrate, in particular, because corn spindles are a type of waste product. As maize spindles are produced during maize production, it is recognizable economically very particularly attractive to use corncob granules as a carrier substrate for the inventive biological control of maize pests (eg., The European corn borer using Trichogramma), namely in a decentralized, user-related production of the application formulation (see below).
Beides resultiert in ohne weiteres einleuchtenden ökologischen Vorteilen. In addition, the carrier substrate consisting of corncob granules with an average grain size of between 1 mm and 15 mm is biodegradable in the agricultural, horticultural or forestry plant stock under the typical conditions prevailing there and consists of a renewable raw material. Both result in obvious ecological benefits. Furthermore, in the case of the use according to the invention of corncob granules as carrier substrate, there are typically advantages with regard to the microclimate prevailing in the depressions, which is of influence for the development of the beneficial organisms.
It should also be mentioned as an advantage that for the application of the beneficial organisms in the form of slip-capable eggs of parasitic wasps on the carrier substrate consisting of corncob granules, established, easily controllable methods can be used, so that the generation of the application formulation is decentralized, ie. H. away from the place of production of the beneficial organisms (e.g., the operation for creating wasp wasps) and can be done by the user. Since in conventional application units loaded with beneficial organisms, the beneficial organisms to be delivered make up an almost negligible proportion (eg, only around 3%), both in terms of weight and volume, the application of the present invention makes it possible to extremely reduce the transport effort by using the central place of production of beneficial organisms only the latter (possibly pre-formulated) are shipped and the application formulation is generated decentralized.
In that regard it comes into play that in various applications for generating the application formulation machine equipment can be used, which are already available close to the user. For example, for the production of ready-to-use application formulations according to the invention for use in the biological control of the European corn borer, the same rotary machines with which maize seed is formulated (pickled) are suitable (see below). The beneficial organisms are introduced into the wells of the carrier substrate particles by treatment in drums or boilers of said rotary machines. H. pressed into the niches, craters, furrows, pores and other irregularities of the relief-like structured surface of the Trägerzustartpartikel so that they, possibly supported by an additional binder, adhere reliably therein, at the same time supernumerary beneficial organisms are stripped from the surface of the carrier substrate particles outside of the wells so that only as many beneficial organisms are consumed in and for the production of the application formulation as can actually be "accommodated" in the wells of the carrier substrate particles.
Furthermore, it is economically advantageous especially for more extensive cultivated areas that an application of the spreading formulation by means of aircraft, which takes place in application of the present invention, can take place, for example by helicopter or light aircraft. This is counteracted by the fact that, in application of the present invention, the application density, i. H. the amount of carrier substance particles colonized with beneficial organisms per unit area varies individually to a previously unknown degree and can therefore be adapted flexibly to the specific local conditions. This goes as far as the consideration of specific topographical conditions within a stock, for example, slopes and sinks, where there is a locally different hazard risk, and reaction to such peculiarities due to a locally varied discharge density. In that regard, there are considerable practical advantages in the application of Ausbringformulierungen by agrotechnical distribution methods from the air using the possible optimized GPS-controlled dosage. Recognizable, however, the aspects and advantages set out above apply, in particular for correspondingly extended acreage, also for the application of suitable land vehicles, in the control of maize pests, for example using stilt tugs.
Especially for the above-described spreading in the application of agro-technical distribution methods are in application of the present invention can be generated application formulations in which the average grain size of the carrier substrate is between 1 mm and 15 mm, in an excellent manner. In view of the typically irregular shape of the carrier substrate with a depressions having relief-like surface, wherein the wells generally have a variety of shapes and dimensions, in this context, the grain size of the carrier substrate particles is defined as the diameter of a ball with the same mass of carrier medium material of the same average density.
According to a preferred development of the present invention, at least part of the trough-like depressions of the carrier substrate has a depth which exceeds 20%, particularly preferably even 30% or even more, of the calculated average grain diameter (see above) of the carrier substrate. The relatively deep, typically crater-like and / or furrow-like depressions corresponding to this condition have a favorable effect in many respects. On the one hand, they favor the attachment of the beneficial organisms in the corresponding wells in the context of the production of the application formulation. Even inadvertent stripping of beneficial organisms, especially in the technical application of the application formulation is counteracted in this way. Furthermore, the rather narrow and deep crater-like and / or furrow-like depressions have a uniform effect on the prevailing microclimate there. This is not only true with regard to temperature fluctuations. Also, the moisture balance is made even by the relatively deep and narrow depressions in this sense, in which the beneficial organisms develop until their release.
The coloration of the carrier substrate also makes it possible to directly influence the microclimate which prevails in the depressions of the carrier substrate particles and influences the development of the beneficial organisms. For most applications, the use of relatively light carrier substrate particles is advantageous because they do not heat up to the same extent in direct sunlight as darker carrier substrate particles, which in turn leads to a homogenization of the temperature over the course of the day. Also in this regard, the use of corncob granules as carrier substrate is associated with particular advantages.
According to yet another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the beneficial organisms are applied to the surface of the carrier substrate using a binder. This measure also supports the adherence of the beneficial organisms to the carrier substrate particles, and especially during mechanical application of the application formulations by means of agro-technical distribution methods. The binder is particularly preferably a cold-curing aqueous swelling product of starch, organic cellulose ethers and / or another renewable raw material that physically sets due to the evaporation of water. Thus, the present invention can be realized for typical beneficial organisms even using a commercial wallpaper pastes.
The binder may be added application-specific additives. In particular, the binder is a so-called. Repellent, d. H. to add a deterrent that protects the beneficial organisms against parasites. Such repellents added to the binder, which may in particular comprise essential oils, such as, for example, thyme oil, may in particular contribute to minimizing the losses due to ejaculations or parasites. Other substances that can be added to the binder for specific applications are pheromones that confound by their release in known as such on insects lured by them pest insects and reduce the rate of reproduction, instead of an admixture to the binder, the corresponding (possibly microencapsulated ) Pheromones u. U. can also be applied directly to the carrier substrate particles.
According to yet another preferred embodiment of the present invention additives may be added to the binder, which protect the beneficial organisms from the development of harmful radiation, in particular UV radiation. In particular, the admixture of UV protection obtained from castor bean is considered.
