Die Erfindung beruht auf dem allgemeinen Gedanken, bei einem an sich bekannten Kraftstoffversorgungssystem einer Brennkraftmaschine mit einem Kraftstofftank, der einen ersten und einen insbesondere als Pufferspeicher ausgebildeten zweiten Tankbereich aufweist, zwischen dem ersten und dem zweiten Tankbereich eine erste Kraftstoffpumpe und ein als Vorfilter dienendes Kraftstofffilter anzuordnen sowie zwischen dem zweiten Tankbereich und der Brennkraftmaschine eine zweite Kraftstoffpumpe und ein zweites Kraftstofffilter vorzusehen. Zumindest das erste Kraftstofffilter weist dabei einen Wasserabscheider auf. Durch die Tatsache, dass die Wasserabscheidung bereits am ersten Kraftstofffilter erfolgt, kann auf einen Wasserabscheider des zweiten Kraftstofffilter eigentlich verzichtet werden, wobei das zweite Kraftstofffilter üblicherweise als Feinfilter ausgebildet ist. Durch die Filtrierung des Kraftstoffs bereits an dem als Vorfilter ausgebildeten ersten Kraftstofffilter ist die Verunreinigung des Kraftstoffs am zweiten Kraftstofffilter bereits deutlich reduziert, sodass das zweite Kraftstofffilter vorzugsweise über die gesamte Standzeit, das heißt Lebensdauer des Kraftstoffversorgungssystems eingebaut bleiben kann, d. h. nicht ausgetauscht werden muss. Die erste Kraftstoffpumpe fördert dabei Kraftstoff durch das erste Kraftstofffilter in den zweiten Tankbereich und zwar in der Menge, in der der Kraftstoff in der Brennkraftmaschine verbrannt, d. h. verbraucht wird. Die zweite Kraftstoffpumpe hingegen fördert eine dazu deutlich größere Kraftstoffmenge, die teilweise der Brennkraftmaschine zugeführt wird und teilweise über eine zwischen der Brennkraftmaschine und dem zweiten Tankbereich verlaufende Rücklaufleitung wieder in den zweiten Tankbereich rückgeführt wird. Dieser Kreislauf dient dabei insbesondere der Kühlung von Motorkomponenten. Bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Kraftstoffversorgungssystem kann vorgesehen sein, die zweite Kraftstoffpumpe und das zweite Kraftstofffilter gekapselt auszubilden, sodass diese geschützt angeordnet werden können. Eine derartige gekapselte Ausbildung ist dabei selbstverständlich nur dann möglich, sofern das zweite Kraftstofffilter während der Lebensdauer des Kraftstoffversorgungssystems nicht ausgetauscht werden muss. Durch die Vorfiltration und insbesondere auch durch die Wasserabscheidung bereits am ersten Kraftstofffilter weist der Kraftstoffkreislauf zwischen dem zweiten Tankbereich und der Brennkraftmaschine einen deutlich reduzierten Wasseranteil auf, der insbesondere Korrosionsgefahren der Brennkraftmaschine deutlich reduziert.
