Gemäß der Erfindung wird vorgeschlagen, das Scheinwerferlicht entgegenkommender Fahrzeuge zu erfassen, anhand des Scheinwerferlichts die relative Position eines entgegenkommenden Fahrzeugs zu bestimmen und unter Verwendung von Navigationsdaten zu ermitteln, ob es sich um einen Falschfahrer handelt. Das automatische Erkennungssystem umfasst hierzu eine Sensorik, mit der das Scheinwerferlicht von entgegenkommenden Fahrzeugen detektiert wird. Die von der Sensorik gelieferten Signale werden beispielsweise mittels eines bildverarbeitenden Algorithmus ausgewertet und daraus die relative Position des entgegenkommenden Fahrzeugs zum Eigenfahrzeug bestimmt. Mit Hilfe von Navigationsdaten, die zumindest Positionsdaten und Informationen über den Fahrbahnverlauf enthalten, kann die absolute Position des entgegenkommenden Fahrzeugs in einem Erd-Koordinatensystem bestimmt und festgestellt werden, ob das entgegenkommende Fahrzeug ein Falschfahrer ist oder nicht.According to the invention, it is proposed to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles, to determine from the headlights light the relative position of an oncoming vehicle and to determine, using navigation data, whether it is a wrong-way driver.
