Der mittels des Treibsatz angetriebene Trennkörper wird durch eine Durchgangsöffnung in der Trennwand geführt, wobei eine Außenkontur des Trennkörpers derart auf eine Innenkontur der ihn führenden Durchgangsöffnung abgestimmt, dass nach dem Durchtrennen des Leiters ein Spalt zwischen der Durchgangsöffnung und dem Trennkörper freigegeben wird, durch welchen das in der Zündkammer durch den Treibsatz erzeugte Druckgas schlagartig in die Auffangkammer ausströmen kann und dabei den sich zwischen den beiden abgetrennten Enden des elektrischen Leiters bildenden Lichtbogens löscht. Der Treibsatz erzeugt somit zunächst einen für die Beschleunigung des Trennkörpers erforderlichen Gasdruck, welcher nach einer entsprechenden Verstellbewegung des Trennkörpers und damit nach dem Durchtrennen des elektrischen Leiters durch einen zwischen dem Trennkörper und der Durchgangsöffnung freigegebenen Spalt in die Auffangkammer strömen und den dort entstehenden Lichtbogen ausblasen kann.
