Description
Motorrad mit einem KraftstofftankMotorcycle with a fuel tank
The present invention relates to a motorcycle with a fuel tank according to the preamble of
Motor vehicle fuel tanks are predominantly welded together from several sheet metal elements. In fuel tanks of conventional motorcycles, the welds run in tank areas that are visible on the finished motorcycle. The welds must therefore be reworked very elaborately and smooth, so that their course in the finished painted fuel tank from the outside is no longer visible. In many conventional fuel tanks, a weld runs in the "0-Y direction", i. H. in a - in relation to the upright motorcycle - vertical central longitudinal plane of the motorcycle. The 0-Y weld divides the fuel tanks into one left and one right half of the tank. This weld seam running at the top of the fuel tank must be reworked with particular care in the case of a conventional fuel tank, since in this area even the smallest surface irregularities in the seam area would be visible in the painted tank.
The object of the invention is to provide a motorcycle with a welded fuel tank that can be painted after welding together of the individual tank shell elements without reworking the welds and yet meets the high surface quality requirements placed on visible vehicle surfaces.
This object is solved by the features of
The starting point of the invention is a motorcycle with a fuel tank, which is made of a plurality of preformed and welded tank shell elements.
The essence of the invention is that the fuel tank is made of exactly three tank shell elements welded together, namely an upper part, which has a filling opening, a lower part and a front part, wherein the upper part and the lower part are interconnected by a weld, which by at least a side panel on the motorcycle arranged covering element is covered. Preferably, the weld connecting the upper part and the lower part and the lower part are covered by one or more cladding elements arranged laterally on the motorcycle. Those areas of the fuel tank that are later seen on the motorcycle "from the outside" are seamless. In particular, the upper part of the fuel tank is seamless. In particular, there is no "0-Y weld" at the top of the fuel tank, as is the case with many fuel tanks of conventional motorcycles.
The fuel tank does not need to be reworked in the area of the welds, which saves costs. A significant advantage is also to be seen in the fact that the "post-processing" does not lead to any losses, as far as the strength of the fuel tank is concerned.
When the upper part and the lower part interconnecting weld can be a fillet weld. The individual tank shell elements can be made of sheet steel or aluminum sheet, z. B. be prepared by deep drawing. For welding the individual tank shell elements welding methods can be used in which the welding seam additional material is added.
