Description
The present invention relates to devices for automation or comfort in the home and in the service sector (lighting, heating, air conditioning). It relates to devices which allow detecting the presence and movement of persons, and more particularly relates to a motion detector which simultaneously provides a large detection area and a sensitivity for weak movements and uses the infrared technology.
No previously known motion detection device simultaneously has the function of motion detection, i. that is, large amplitude movements, and the function of presence detection, i. There are two types of passive IR presence detectors in practice, i. H. So presence sensors and motion sensors.
The presence sensors detect the mean amplitude movements, such as those originating from a seated person. They are used for energy management and comfort in collectively used spaces, e.g. Offices, boardrooms, etc., used. They accordingly allow the switching on and off of lights or heaters, the regulation of the ambient luminance as a function of the actual presence of persons in the premises, etc.
These presence sensors use an optical lens and mirror device which divides the area to be monitored into a dense network of active and passive areas. The incoming signals are reflected onto the mirrors, which direct the said signals to one or more infrared sensors. The disadvantage of this type of sensor is that, due to the use of dense regions that do not allow for long range detection, multiple sensors are generally used for efficient detection. This increases the costs associated with the installation of a system allowing the detection of a possible presence.
The motion detectors have the disadvantage of detecting only movements of high amplitude and preferably to the mounting plane of said detector vertical movements. In fact, the coverage areas used in the motion detectors are less dense, but have a wider range. Generally, the detection areas are in the form of a horizontal projection in space when the detector is attached to a wall. The greater the distance between the object to be detected and the detector, the greater the sensitivity of the latter is reduced. Thus, traversing a detection area is detected by the detector even at a long distance, but when it moves to the detector its sensitivity is reduced.
The main disadvantage of these detectors is that persons may be temporarily outside the detection areas, and it follows that the areas to be protected must be completely covered by detection areas. In addition, people who perform low amplitude movements, such. As sedentary persons, detected only in the area near the detector. These detectors are mainly used to automatically activate light in corridors.
It will thus be understood that the major drawbacks of these two types of sensors, as outlined above, are related to the fact that they do not simultaneously have the function of detecting presence and movement. As a result, these two types of sensors must be mounted simultaneously to ensure detection of movement and detection of presence in a room.
The present invention has for its object to overcome these disadvantages and to propose an infrared detector, which has the function of detecting presence as well as that of the detection of movement and it allows to select the detection area, without the said device must be dismantled when it comes to relocations of desks, partitions, etc.
In that regard, the infrared detector is formed by a mounting base on a support and by a housing mounted on said base and is characterized in that said housing comprises at least two infrared detecting means and an electronic unit for processing the incident signals. Each infrared detecting means has at least one high concentration detection area and one low concentration detection area, and the lower concentration detection areas of the detection means partially overlap each other to form a new high concentration detection area.
