Im Zuge des Siegeszuges der PET-Flaschen, kommt der Behandlung und Sterilisierung von z. T. CO2-haltigen Flüssigkeiten in der Getränkeindustrie eine entscheidende Bedeutung zu. In den Flüssigkeiten vorhandenen Bakterien und Keime müssen vor der Abfüllung nahezu restlos entfernt/abgetötet sein da bei dieser Technik sich z. B. ein Tunnelpasteur zur letzten Keimabtötung verbietet und damit Keime die in die Flaschen geraten sich vermehren und zum Verderb der Ware führen können. Die Anlagen müssen so gestaltet werden dass auf chemische Zusatzstoffe wie z. B. "Velgorin" verzichtet werden kann.
