Abstract

The system has several spatially separate heating modules, each with its own device for generating heat, and a common controller for controlling the heating power of each heating module. At least one of the heating modules is formed by an electric heater and/or at least one by an internal combustion engine that burns fuel or gas to generate hot combustion gases to supply at least one heat exchanger.

Description

The present invention relates to a heating system for a motor vehicle.

A problem with conventional motor vehicle heating systems, in which warm air generated by heat exchange with the engine cooling water consists in that a certain amount of time is required after starting the engine until the cooling water has warmed up sufficiently to have a heating function, realize. Furthermore, especially in the case of consumption-optimized engines even with the engine warmed up, the case occurs that from the engine the heat emitted by the cooling water is not sufficient, for example sufficient heating function at very low outside temperatures realize.

The problem of creating an at least partially engine temperature independent heating system is usually provided by providing one electrical additional heating or a combustion heater, which burns fuel to direct air into the vehicle interior heat. A heating system is known from DE 975 062 B, in which a combustion heater is provided which has a heat exchanger heats upstream of the cooling water heat exchanger in the air flow is provided, which is supplied to the vehicle interior. To this Air is supplied to the vehicle interior by means of the Combustion heater already preheated before entering the Cooling water heat exchanger occurs.

Heating systems are known from DE 197 29 899 C1 and DE 37 15 194 A1 which an additional electrical heater downstream of the cooling water Heat exchanger is arranged in the air supply duct to the interior to heat the air emerging from the cooling water heat exchanger.

A disadvantage of these known heating systems is that on the one hand the The heating output of a single heater only varies within relatively narrow limits can and on the other hand, the heating output only selectively in the Coolant system or the heating air can be introduced.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a heating system for a To create a motor vehicle whose heating output is controlled more flexibly and better can be distributed.

This object is achieved according to the invention by a heating system Claim 1. With this solution according to the invention it is advantageous that at Ease of use, high flexibility in terms of spatial distribution and the total amount of heating power is made possible. Furthermore, a better one Efficiency than can be achieved with a single heating module.

Preferred embodiments of the invention are in the subclaims specified.

In the following the invention with reference to the accompanying drawing is exemplary explained in more detail, which schematically shows the structure of an inventive Heating system shows.

According to the single figure, in a heating system for a motor vehicle, three spatially separate heating modules are provided, namely a blower and burner unit 10 and two electric heaters 12 and 14 . The burner unit 10 burns fuel or gas in order to generate hot combustion gases and thereby to supply a plurality of heat exchangers 16 with heat which are provided in order to heat air which is supplied to the vehicle interior or is already present in the vehicle interior at a plurality of locations which are separate from one another. Alternatively, at least some of the heat exchangers 16 can be used to heat coolant in the coolant circuit of the vehicle engine. The heat supply from the burner unit 10 to the heat exchangers 16 can take place either directly by supplying the hot combustion gases or indirectly by providing a medium that circulates through the heat exchangers and is heated by the hot combustion gases in order to supply the individual heat exchangers 16 with heat . As indicated in the figure, the heat exchangers 16 can be connected in parallel and / or in series. The heat exchangers 16 and the electric heaters 12 and 14 are arranged as close as possible to the points at which the heating heat is to be provided. This can be, for example, the area under the respective vehicle seats or the air entry area into the vehicle interior. If the heat exchangers 16 or a part of the heat exchangers 16 are to heat coolant in the coolant circuit of the vehicle engine, the placement of the heat exchangers should also take place as close as possible to the places where the heat supply is most expedient. The electric heaters 12 and 14 can optionally also be provided for heating the coolant. The electrical heaters 12 and 14 are preferably connected in such a way that electrical energy is only applied to them when the vehicle generator supplies the power required to conserve the vehicle battery.

The heating modules 10 , 12 and 14 are controlled by a common control device 18 , wherein the heating power of each heating module 10 , 12 and 14 can be controlled individually. In this way, simple operation of the heating system is ensured, but a more flexible control of the heating power and a higher degree of efficiency can be achieved than would be the case if only a single heating module were used.

It is understood that the heating system shown in the figure is in addition to that usual vehicle heating system using waste heat from the coolant circuit is provided if the vehicle has a coolant-cooled engine.
