Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the chemical dyeing of veneers, in particular from tannery-poor deciduous trees. The aim is to achieve a complete veneering of the veneer under industrial conditions while maintaining a positive pickling pattern. For this purpose, tannin accumulation in deciduous trees was achieved, which ensures uniform uptake and distribution of the active ingredient in relatively short treatment times and chemical color development throughout the veneer cross-section. According to the invention, the veneers to be dyed are treated in an iron salt dyebath together with auxiliary veneers with a mean tannin content of 2 to 7%. As auxiliary veneer come from the wood of the red beech, the linden and / or the birch in question. The invention is applied to the refinement of domestic veneers.
Description
The invention relates to a method for finishing native veneers, in particular from low-tannin hardwoods, by uniform coloring while preserving the natural wood texture.
It is known to impart transparent colorations to veneer woods. This is done once by physical staining using suitable dye solutions, for which methods have been developed that allow the desired high penetration depth of the dye into the veneer. In addition to problems of color uniformity, however, it is primarily disturbing that a negative image of the wood texture is obtained due to the greater absorbency of the porous naturally bright earlywood parts. The "artificial" impression created by this circumstance still places narrow limits on the use of such colored veneers for the design of furniture surfaces and in interior design.
Zum Teil wird auch zwischengetrocknet.)On the other hand, there is also the old artisanal technique of pickling available, which consists in a color development by chemical reaction of wood-based inactive substances mainly with heavy metal salts. For low-tannin woods, the so-called double stains are used in a two-stage process in which the wood is pretreated with certain inactive chemicals. Hydroquinone, pyrogallol, catechol, resorcinol, gallic acid and tannin are suitable for this purpose. (For a transfer of the Doppelbeizverfahrens on an industrial scale would be the technological disadvantage that this is because of the required intermediate watering is a three-wheeler.
The advantage of pickling is the fact that due to the higher tannin content in the denser wood parts (latewood and pith rays) the image of the wood texture remains positive and is even enhanced in a desirable manner. The main defect, however, is that the color development takes place substantially on the surface of the wood. There is no adequate staining, so that when necessary surface treatments (grinding) or even minor damage the unheated wood comes to light. The precipitate deposited on the surface acts as a covering color, which overlays and "smears" the grain of the wood.
Due to these disadvantages, the pickling process is of primary interest in coniferous wood, which is made up of thin-walled and wide-lumen cells and therefore more receptive to chemicals.
In order to even come to an acceptable coloration, long storage times of the impregnated wood are required. For example, it is proposed in SU-UR 390948 to store wood veneer impregnated with catechol and iron sulfate in the dense stack for at least 36 hours in order to obtain a through-dyed veneer.
The aim of the invention is to achieve a complete coloration of veneers in low-tannin hardwoods while maintaining a positive pickling pattern on the principle of chemical color development in acceptable for industrial coloration times.
The invention has for its object to provide conditions for a tanning enrichment in hardwoods, which ensures a uniform absorption and distribution of active ingredient in relatively short treatment times and a chemical color development throughout the veneer cross-section.
It has been found that veneers low in tannins are fully dyed in a single-bath process by means of iron-Il salt in a short time, when in addition to the veneers to be dyed veneers of a wood species with a mean tannin content of 2 to 7% are entered into the dyebath. For this veneers come from the wood of the beech, the birch and / or the lime tree in question. In this way, low-tannin hardwoods are dyed that were previously inaccessible to such coloring, such as ash or poplar.
As iron salts, the iron (II) sulfate as well as the Mohr salt (iron ammonium sulfate) come into consideration, which are dissolved in the dyebath in relatively low concentrations. Concentrations of 0.5 ... 5g / l are used. In order to avoid unwanted precipitation in the dyebath, the water used should be as soft as possible, if necessary, use deionized water. The pH of the aqueous bath is adjusted by means of acid, preferably sulfuric acid between 2.5 and 5. In addition to stabilizing the bath, the acid addition also serves to control the desired color depth. At the higher pH values, the coloration obtained becomes stronger and covers any brown shades contained in the wood. The veneers of the wood species to be treated are set or laid in the bath together with preferably beech, birch or linden veneer in a suitable holding device. This can be z. B. done by alternately inserting. The mass ratio of the respective veneer to be treated to the Färbehilfsfurnier is 1: 2 to 4: 1. The dyeing is preferably carried out in a heated bath at 30 to 8O 0 C and is complete after about 2 hours with the complete through-coloring of the veneers. Just as the color depth is possible via the pH value setting, it can also be controlled via the bathing temperature. It is true that - at constant pH - in the higher temperature range darker colorations are achieved. As a result of the coloring modern gray-brown to gray-green shades are obtained. There is no fuzziness or cloudiness of the coloration, the positive grain pattern (dark wood mirror, bright softwood) is retained. Surprisingly, it has been found that the inactive wood constituents diffuse very quickly from the auxiliary veneer acting as tanning agent dispenser into the entire cross-section of the dense hardwood veneers, which grow on the wood fiber and give uniform coloration with the iron salt present from the outset in a low concentration in the bath , A particular advantage is that this process takes place in a one-bath process, without further intermediate or post-treatments of the veneer are required. Obviously, the wood ingredients taken from the donor veneer are available in a more convenient form than is the case with treatments with certain artificial chemical additives.
Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft Geest & Portig KG., Leipzig 1956, S. 421-423.It is particularly noteworthy that the advantage obtainable according to the invention again no longer occurs with very tannin-rich woods with tannin contents above 7% (for example oak veneer). It comes here to a superficial Auflagerung the formed iron-tanning agent complex and the staining of the veneer is disturbed. The applicability of the process was therefore limited to the range of auxiliary veneers with tannin contents of 2 to 7%. The determination of the tannin content is carried out according to the well-known instructions of SANDERMANN: W. Sandermann, Fundamentals of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Wood. Academic publishing house Geest & Portig KG., Leipzig 1956, P. 421-423.
For staining of ash veneers, a dyebath of 1.5 g / l FeSO 4 in soft water is prepared. The pH of the bath is adjusted to 4.5 by means of sulfuric acid. A veneer veneer and a red beech veneer (according to SANDERMANN specific tannin content = 3.1%) are alternately placed in a veneer inserter.
After heating the bath to 40 ° C, the veneers are lowered into the dyebath and left there for 2 hours without circulation of the liquid therein. After this time remove the veneers from the bath, drain them and dry them in the dryer.
The ash veneer has taken on a gray-green color, the brown core is largely covered. A lighter gray-green shade, preserving the browning, is obtained under the same conditions when the pH of the dyebath is adjusted to 3.0.
For dyeing poplar pelts, a dyebath is prepared by dissolving 5 g / l of Mohr's salt in soft water. By adding sulfuric acid, a pH of 4.5 is set. Alternatively, one poplar veneer, one red beech veneer and one lime veneer are placed in a veneer inserter. The procedure is as described in Example 1, but the bath temperature is adjusted to 45 0 C and the liquid pumped during the two-hour dyeing process. The resulting color of the poplar veneer is brownish-gray with growth-related partially bluish zones.
