Also useful are the amides or amine salts of the monoesters of the aforementioned dicarboxylic acids wherein the alkyl chain of the cat contains from about bis to about 40 carbon atoms. In this invention, it has been found that both the type of nitrogen-containing compounds used and the type of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer employed are significant parameters to provide an effective two-component additive system which serves to substantially improve flow properties. For example, it has been demonstrated in that the inventive combination of suspending agents for improving the flow properties is highly effective compared to the three-component systems in US Pat. No. 4,131,534, which are used at relatively high treatment concentrations the use of a third component with the associated costs in many liquid fuels may not be necessary
It is believed that the nitrogenous compounds of this invention are highly effective in inhibiting the growth of paraffin crystals. Typically, upon cooling a distillate fuel, normal alkanes having about 14 to 32 carbon atoms will crystallize. The longer alkanes will crystallize out first, generally the maximum is about 20 to 22 carbon atoms.

Although the optimum polymer properties will vary from one liquid fuel to another, we prefer that the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer contain from 10 to 40% by weight, preferably from 10 to 35% by weight, most preferably 10 to 20% by weight vinyl acetate average molecular weight (M) measured by the vapor phase osmometry within the range of about 1000 to 30000, preferably 1500 to 7000, more preferably 1500 to 5500, most preferably 2500 to 5500, and a degree of segregation in the range of 1 to 20, preferably from 2 to 12. The degree of branching corresponds to the number of methyl groups except those of the vinyl acetate in the polymer molecule per 100 methyl groups. The determination is carried out by means of proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, for example using a Perkin-isilmer spectrometer R ~ 24 with a 20% (Mass / mass) solution in orthodichlorobenzene at 100 0 G and 220 MHz according to the Verfa hear with the undamped shaft.
Wir haben ermittelt, daß die Verwendung von Äthylen-Vinylazetat-Kopolymeren mit unterschiedlichem Löe~ lichkeitsverhalten auf Grund einer Polymerstruktur, im besonderen eines Vinylazetatgehaltes außerhalb des weiter oben beschriebenen Bereichs» zu einem flüssigen Brennstoff mitWhile polymer branching may vary within these limits, we have found that the more significant characteristic of the copolymer is due to the vinyl acetate content. We have found that the use of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers of different solubility characteristics due to a polymer structure, in particular a vinyl acetate content outside the range described above, is a liquid fuel

In the following Examples 12 bia 16, the behavior of the oil with respect to the additives was measured according to the cold filter clogging test (GFPPT) method. The test method is carried out as described in the Journal of the Institute of Petroleum, Vol. 52, Kr 510, June 1966, pages 173 to 185. This test served to conform to the cold flow of a middle distillate in European automatic diesel fuels.
In brief: üiine to be tested 40-ml oil sample is cooled in a bath which is maintained at about -34 0 C to obtain a non-linear cooling from about 1 ° C / min is recorded "Periodically (at each ° C drop in temperature starting from at least 2 0 C above the flocculation point) the cooled oil is tested for its ability to flow through a fine screen in a prescribed time period using a test device, wherein it is a pipette. At the bottom of this pipette is an inverted funnel located below the surface of the oil to be tested. Extending above the mouth of the funnel is a 350-mesh screen with a surface area defined by a diameter equal to 12 mm. The periodic tests are each initiated by applying a vacuum to the top of the pipette. This will allow oil to be absorbed through the sieve up into the pipette up to a mark corresponding to 20 ml of oil. Upon successful completion, the oil will immediately return to the CFPP tube (CFPP = Cold Filter Clogging Point). E The test is repeated at each ° G temperature drop,
