Abstract

Wax-contg. middle distillate fuel oils (b.pt. 120-500 deg.C) with improved low-temp. properties contain 0.005-0.5 (pref. 0.005-0.25) wt.% of a flow and filterability improver comprising (a) 25-95 wt.% of a wax crystal growth inhibitor which is an oil-soluble 30-300C cpd. which has at least one 8-40C n-alkyl chain and is selected from the alkylammonium salts and/or amides of aromatic or cycloaliphatic polycarboxylic acids or anhydrides or the amide/amine salts of monoesters of such acids, and (b) 5-75 wt.% of an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer with a vinyl acetate content of 10-40 wt.%, a no.-av. molecular wt. of 1000-30,000 and a degree of branching corresp. to 1-20 alkyl methyl gps. per 100 methylene gps. (as determined by NMR). - Combinations of (a) and (b) are more effective (give better results in the DOT test) than 3-component mixts. of the type described in US4211534.
