Abstract

4-Aryl-5-carbamoyl-1,4-dihydropyridine cpds. of formula (I) and their salts are new. (R = phenyl opt. substd. or is phenyl fused to a dioxolane ring; R1, R2 = H or 1-6C alkyl, or R1 and R2 together complete a pyrrolidinyl, piperidono, morpholino, piperazinyl, N-(1-4C alkyl)piperazinyl or N-(2-4C alkanoyl)piperazinyl gp.; or R2 is H or 1-4C alkyl and R1 is CN, 3-7C cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl or a 1-4C alkyl gp., the 1-4C alkyl gp. of R1 being substd.; Z = 1-6C alkoxy, aryl(1-4C)alkoxy OH or NR4R5; R4, R5 = H or 1-6C alkyl or R4 and R5 together complete a pyrrolidine, piperidino, morpholino, piperazinyl or N-(1-4C alkyl)piperazinyl gp.; Y = 1,4-phenylene or pyridine-2,5-diyl; X = a 5 or 6 membered aromatic heterocyclic gp. contg. N atom(s) in its ring, which ring may be fused to a benzene ring or to a further 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic ring contg. N atom(s), heterocyclic ring(s) opt. also contg. an O or S atom and being opt. substd.; aryl = phenyl opt. substd., heteroaryl in the definition of R1 = 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic gp. contg. heteroatom(s) selected from N, O and S and which may opt. be fused to a benzene ring and which may opt. be substd. in heterocyclic and fused benzene ring(s).
