Abstract

Maintenance-free friction bearing consists of a metal substrate and a sintered sliding layer which is thick enough for reworking. - The substrate pref. has a smooth or roughened surface and consists of steel. The sliding layer is up to 1.5 mm thick and pref. is a perforated and/or air-permeable plastics film, esp. of fluoro-plastics, e.g. (modified) PTFE, polyimide or PEEK. This film may contain filler(s) to provide reinforcement and/or to enhance the thermal conductivity and/or wear properties, pref. fabric, powder or fibres of carbon, Al2O3, ceramic, glass, bronze, MoS2 or SiC in an amt. of 1-40, esp. 5-30 vol.%. There may be an intermediate layer of a TFE-perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether, PTFE/ethylene or chlorotrifluoroethylene/ethylene (ECTFE) copolymer, opt. filled with Al2O3, ceramic, glass, bronze or MoS2.
