Abstract

The tool uses the rise of a cam to position the cutting jaws and to close them, and the fall to then draw the insulation from the wire. The cutting jaws are rotated round the wire to ensure a uniform cut before the insulation is drawn away. A fixed mount carries a vertically sliding column on which the two parts of the machine are carried. When a wire is to be stripped, it is inserted from above after sliding column has been raised by rotation of a cam. As the cam continues to rotate, a lower rod is raised by the cam to force a second rod, with a conical end, between the cutting jaws, which pivot to close onto the wire insulation. The cutting blades are spring loaded and have a curved cutting edge. A belt driven pulley rotates the cutter assembly, and as the cam rotates further, the column lowers, drawing the insulation along the wire, the cutters being held closed by a ratchet mechanism on the lower rod.
