Abstract

Las realizaciones de la presente divulgación proporcionan métodos y composiciones para aumentar la fijación de nitrógeno (N) de diazótrofos o la adquisición de N para una planta que lo necesita. Las realizaciones de los métodos y composiciones comprenden al menos una cepa endófita viva, en donde la cepa endófita viva se aísla de una o más plantas cultivadas en un ambiente con escasez de nutrientes y/o con estrés hídrico. En algunas realizaciones, la cepa endófita se puede administrar a una planta, en donde la cepa endófita aumenta sinérgicamente la fijación de nitrógeno de la cepa diazótrofa asociada con la planta. En otras realizaciones, la cepa diazótrofa no está asociada con una planta. Las realizaciones de la presente divulgación tienen una amplia aplicación para reducir los requisitos de fertilizantes, aumentar el secuestro de carbono de las plantas, aumentar la producción de gas hidrógeno para su uso como fuente de energía o en industrias químicas y aumentar el crecimiento de cepas microbianas industriales, reduciendo la necesidad de amonio o nitratos en los fermentadores.
