Abstract
A liquid absorbent article of particulate material that includes first and second zones in close fluid communication relationship, each zone having a multiplicity of interparticle and intraparticle interstices that give access to the passage of the liquid, said first zone having an average gap size of larger than said second zone, whereby said second zone manifests a greater attraction of capillarity than said first zone. A liquid absorbent article as defined in claim 1, wherein said second zone includes sphagnum moss. A liquid absorbent article as defined in claim 2, wherein said first zone includes sphagnum moss. A liquid absorbent article as defined in claim 3, wherein said first zone has an average sphagnum moss particle size larger than said second zone. A liquid absorbent article as defined in claim 4, in which said first zone has an average sphagnum moss particle size in the range of about 2000 microns to about 500 microns. A liquid absorbent article as defined in claim 5, wherein said second zone has an average sphagnum moss particle size in the range of about 500 microns to about 150 microns. A liquid absorbent article as defined in Claim 1, in which said article is presented in the form of a sheet. A liquid absorbent article as defined in claim 7, in which said areas constitute overlapping layers of said sheet.
