发明背景
电视广播可能含有诸如暴力和性内容等对少儿有害的内容。因此已经开发了各种父母控制系统，用于封锁少儿不宜的节目和频道。
在美国，已经采用了一种使用所谓的V-芯片的用于电视内容咨询(分级)的封锁系统。广播公司在NTSC电视信号的垂直消隐期期间一更具体来说在第2场的第21行，利用被称作扩展数据服务或XDS的数据格式，对分级进行编码。XDS数据格式与美国的在NTSC电视信号的第1场的第21行中编码的闭路字幕的格式类似。XDS和闭路字幕信息两种数据格式都在美国消费电子协会(CEA)开发的EIA-608标准作了规定。分级信号与相应的电视节目一起传送并由在电视设备中实现的V-芯片系统检测。该系统解码第21行数据，将其与允许的分级比较，然后或者封锁该信号或者让其通过。注意这里所说的电视设备、电视系统、电视机和/或视频信号处理系统或设备的原意是包括任何处理包括用于提供分级信息的诸如XDS数据的辅助信息的视频或电视信号的系统，无论它带有或没有显示装置。这类系统的例子包括电视、VCR、DVD、卫星信号接收机、机顶盒、有线电视盒(cable boxes)等等。
诸如V芯片这样的系统要求父母们在下面两个不同分级系统中标识他们希望封锁的分级：TV父母指南和美国动画电影协会(MPAA)电影分级，它们被用在优质有线电视频道上演播的未编辑过的电影上。TV父母指南由基于年龄的分级(它指示特定节目被认为适合的年龄组)和基于内容的分级组成。MPAA电影分级也被划分为年龄组，但是不同于上述的电视分级。
分级界限的设定，一般通过用于这两个不同的分级系统的屏幕上的说明来完成。例如，对于电影分级，用户可加亮显示(highlight)“PG-13”，表明这个等级以上的所有节目都应被封锁，这个等级之下的所有节目应被视为可接受的。对于电视分级界限，用户也必须选择基于年龄的等级，例如“TV-14”。此外，对于电视分级界限，用户也必须确定是否封锁某些类型的内容，其中可以为各种基于年龄的等级不同地规定基于内容的等级。
美国专利号5,949,471中公开的父母控制系统内可提供另一种功能。这个系统允许用户能启用防止观看令人不愉快的场面的V-封锁方式(V-block mode)，能选择放置被观看的特定节目，或者能指定要被封锁的特定频道上的所有节目。封锁一个节目所根据的频道、日期、时间和节目的长度，可由用户以压缩代码的形式输入。
发明内容
本发明根据的是对以下事实的认识。当用户确定控制少儿被允许观看的节目的分级界限时，用户被迫依赖广播公司给出的对节目的MPAA分级、TV分级或内容分级。然而，可能有一些节目，尽管对该节目给出的分级水平可能是用户平常可接受的，用户也宁愿其孩子不要看。同样，可能有的节目是用户认为让孩子观看是可接受的，即使对该节目给出的分级可能平常是引起用户担心的。
因此，按照本发明的一个实施例，对应于第一用户输入设置分级界限。然后，对应于第二用户输入设置所述分级界限的例外。将分级界限和所述分级界限的例外这二者存储起来。接收用于规定节目的等级和用于标识节目的信息。对等级与所存储的分级界限进行比较，借助用于标识节目的信息来检查是否设置了该节目的分级界限的一个例外。根据对所接收信息的比较和检查的结果而允许对所述节目的访问。

具体实施方式
图1表示一个在接收器装置中、例如在电视机或机顶盒中实现的适合于选择性地阻止观看电视节目的实施例的高级框图。图中只描述了与本发明相关的部件，而没有显示调谐器或解调器之类的普通部件。
电视信号可以以任意方式被接收，例如在广播信号情况下的地面的、通过电缆、卫星或因特网。然而，电视信号也可以从诸如VCR、DVD播放器之类的回放装置被接收。
输入装置10允许调出功能项(feature)以便用于设置分级界限和这些分级界限的例外。输入装置10可以是任何被用来向诸如电视机、机顶盒、计算机等装置提供输入的装置。输入装置10的例子包括遥控器、键盘、计算机鼠标、麦克风、触摸屏等等。输入接口11允许处理器12从输入装置10接收命令。响应开始分级界限功能项的命令，处理器12执行指令，以便提供屏幕显示画面以及如以后说明的那样允许用户输入。用于屏幕显示画面的显示数据被提供到屏幕显示画面生成器17，用于生成在显示装置18上、例如在电视屏幕上显示的相应的屏幕显示画面。

选择性访问应用程序13、分级界限数据库14和分级例外数据库15可以存储在同一存储器16中，但是也可以存储在包括随机存取存储器(RAM)、非易失性或后备存储器(例如可编程存储器或闪存)的存储器的组合中。
输入的电视信号19被输送到解码器110，解码器把代表推荐等级的数据和标识来自电视信号的当前播放的节目的数据分离并解码。对于模拟电视信号，两种数据都可在垂直消隐间隔例如作为如EIA-608标准中所规定的扩展数据服务数据被传送。对于数字电视信号，可以将数据包含在服务信息中，这种信息是例如按MPEG 2系统标准在视频和音频信号之外传送。

如果用户选择绝不封锁列表功能项，系统在步骤21显示图4中所示的屏面。在菜单功能项列表41中，被选择的“绝不封锁列表”功能项被加亮显示。该加亮显示的功能项的说明及其用法解释42被显示。此外，以前观看的频道的视频信号可以仍然作为PIP(画中画)43被显示。要开始设置绝不封锁列表或总是封锁列表，用户必须按下一个”OK”按钮。然而，用户也能选择退出设置或者进入创建电影分级界限或电视分级界限的标准方式。

如果用户加亮显示并选择了总是封锁列表选项，则如图6中所示的那样，向用户呈现一个已经被添加到总是封锁列表中的项目的列表61，供观看或修改。如果列表中有更多的未能在画面中显示的项目，则也可以显示一个继续符号62。在本例中，用户可以用例如遥控器的输入装置上的up(上)或down(下)键来使列表上下滚动。另一方面，如果用户还没有向总是封锁节目列表中添加过任何节目，则右侧的显示区会是空的，用户只有向这个列表中添加节目的选项。
从这个屏幕上，用户可以选择向这个列表添加节目或者从这个列表中删除节目。如果用户选择图6中的添加节目选项，在步骤24中就向用户呈现一个类似于图7中所见的屏幕。这个屏幕允许用户首先通过加亮显示和选择屏幕上键盘73中的字母72而在文字空白区中输入一个标题的若干字符71。当用户在第一文字栏中输入字母时，显示区74显示出其标题以所选择的字幕作为开头的节目，这是例如从诸如电子节目指南(EPG)数据库的节目信息数据库中推导出的。如果用户输入另一个字母，显示区改变，以显示其标题以所选择的两个字母为开头的节目。当用户所希望的向总是封锁节目列表中添加的节目在显示区74中出现时，用户就定位到该希望的节目、并加亮显示和选择之。选择该希望的节目之后，系统将返回到步骤22，显示图6中所看到的、有添加到显示区中所见的列表中的新的被封锁节目的屏幕。为了方便用户，图6中所示的屏幕也可包含一个简短的用法说明75。

向绝不封锁节目列表添加节目的屏幕和从绝不封锁列表删除节目的屏幕看起来类似于图7和图8中所显示的屏幕。
图3表示在分级界限和分级例外已经被设置后选择性地阻止或允许观看电视节目的方法的流程图。在步骤31，从接收的电视信号中抽取规定推荐等级的信息和标识该电视节目的信息。紧接着在步骤32中，将与TV信号一起接收到的推荐等级与存储的由用户定义的分级界限作比较。如果推荐等级低于所存储的分级界限，该方法前进到步骤33，否则前进到步骤34。

本发明扩展了能用于消费电子装置的分级界限的功能，消费电子装置包括—但不限于—电视信号接收设备(例如带有或没有显示装置的电视接收机)、机顶盒、VCR、PVR或DVD播放机。然而，如果规定了适当的分级界限，则本发明也能用于封锁游戏控制台上的某些游戏，或者用于因特网站点、聊天、新闻组和电子邮件的内容过滤。
本发明可以以硬件或软件实现，其中，软件实现可以使操作系统的一部分，但是也可以作为独立程序发布和安装。

Claims (17)

1.用于选择性地控制对节目的访问的方法，包含：
对应于第一用户输入设定分级界限；
对应于第二用户输入设定所述分级界限的例外；
接收标识节目的信息和规定所述节目的等级的信息；
比较所述节目的所述等级与所述被存储的分级界限；
确定是否已经为由所述被接收的节目标识信息所标识的所述节目设定了所述分级界限的一个例外；和
根据比较和确定步骤的结果而控制对所述节目的访问。
2.按照权利要求1的方法，其中，所述规定节目的至少一个等级和标识所述节目的信息是与所述节目一起被接收的。
3.按照权利要求1的方法，其中，所述节目是电视节目，并且所述分级界限被用于父母控制系统中。
4.按照权利要求2的方法，其中，所述电视节目是以模拟电视信号的形式被接收的，并且所述等级被嵌入在所述模拟电视信号的垂直消隐间隔中。
5.按照权利要求3的方法，其中的等级规定了节目的目标观众的年龄、某个节目内容的等级、或它们的组合。
6.按照权利要求1的方法，其中，所述分级界限的所述例外限定了应独立于所述设定的分级界限而要被封锁或允许的节目。
7.按照权利要求6的方法，其中，绝不封锁节目列表规定某些绝不要被封锁的节目，即使这些节目超过分级界限。
8.按照权利要求6的方法，其中，总是封锁节目列表规定了某些总是要被封锁的节目，即使这些节目不超过分级界限。
9.按照权利要求6的方法，其中，所述例外是由描述所述节目的元数据规定的，该元数据例如是节目标题、演员名、导演名或主题。
10.按照权利要求9的方法，其中，所述规定所述例外的元数据是由用户从一个专用元数据列表中选择的。

12.按照权利要求9的方法，其中，所述规定所述例外的元数据是通过对一个当前显示的节目作标记而选择的。
13.按照权利要求12的方法，其中，当前显示的节目的节目标题是作为所述分级界限的例外而存储的。
14.按照权利要求12的方法，其中，向用户显示描述当前被显示的节目的元数据的概要，并且所述元数据的一个或多个被用户选择并作为所述分级界限的例外而存储。
15.按照权利要求6的方法，其中，设定的例外对节目系列的任何以后的系列部分都有效。
16.用于选择性地控制电视节目的观看的方法，包含：
在电视节目的父母控制系统中设定对应于第一用户输入的分级界限，其中所述分级界限总体上限定了电视节目究竟要被封锁还是被允许观看；
设定对应于第二用户输入的对一些确定的电视节目的所述分级界限的例外；
存储所述分级界限和对一些确定的电视节目的所述分级界限的例外；
接收带有规定推荐的等级和标识所述电视节目的嵌入信息的电视节目；
抽取所述嵌入信息；
比较所述推荐的等级与所述存储的分级界限；
利用所述标识所述电视节目的信息来检查是否设定了所述一些确定的电视节目的分级界限的例外；
如果所述分级界限表明特定电视节目要被封锁并且没有设定所述特定电视节目的所述分级界限的例外，或者如果所述分级界限的所述例外表明所述特定电视节目要被封锁，则封锁对该特定电视节目的观看；和
如果所述分级界限表明特定电视节目不要被封锁并且没有设定所述特定电视节目的所述分级界限的例外，或者如果所述分级界限的所述例外表明所述特定电视节目不要被封锁，则允许对该电视节目的观看。
17.用于选择性地控制对节目的访问的设备，包含：
用于对应于第一用户输入设定分级界限的装置；
用于对应于第二用户输入设定所述分级界限的例外的装置；
用于接收标识节目的信息和规定所述节目的等级的信息的装置；
用于比较所述节目的所述等级与所述被存储的分级界限的装置；
用于确定是否已经为由所述被接收的节目标识信息所标识的所述节目设定了所述分级界限的例外的装置；和
用于根据比较和确定这两个步骤的结果而控制对所述节目的访问的装置。
