Abstract

本发明涉及一种驱动等离子显示板的设备,特别涉及一种具有扫描驱动器的驱动等离子显示板的设备。根据本发明的具体实施方式,驱动等离子显示板的设备包括通过一个Y-电极施加扫描脉冲的一个开关装置,其中开关装置接通以将扫描脉冲施加于所选Y-电极,并且其中其他开关装置断开。通过仅用一个开关装置进行扫描和维持过程,由此本发明可以降低成本,并且缩小扫描驱动器的体积。特别地,通过仅接通相应于所选通道的开关装置,和通过断开相应于其他通道的开关装置,本发明使得功耗最小化。

Description

具有扫描驱动器的驱动等离子显示板的设备
本申请要求于2004年3月5日在韩国提交的专利申请10-2004-0014805号的优先权,其全部内容在此引入以作参考。
技术领域
本发明涉及一种驱动等离子显示板的设备,特别涉及一种具有扫描驱动器的驱动等离子显示板的设备。
背景技术
图1是根据现有技术的等离子显示板驱动器的方框图。如图1所示,信号处理单元110将从外部输入的视频信号转换成适合等离子显示板驱动的视频数据。
数据分类单元120将1-TV域的视频数据重新设置为多个子域,来对通过信号处理单元110转换而成的视频数据进行灰度处理。
为了在等离子显示板的放电单元中形成壁电压,X-电极驱动单元130和Y-电极驱动单元140分别将寻址脉冲和扫描脉冲施加于X-电极和Y-电极。而且,Y-电极驱动单元140和Z电极驱动单元150交替地将用于维持其上形成有壁电荷的放电单元的放电的维持脉冲分别施加于Y-电极和Z-电极。
根据外部视频信号,主控制单元160控制通过数据分类单元120被重新分类的视频数据,从而重新分类的视频数据被顺序读取,以通过1-扫描行量提供给X-电极驱动器130。而且,主控制单元160将逻辑控制脉冲施加于高电压驱动电路单元170。
高电压驱动电路单元170从主控制单元160接收逻辑控制脉冲,然后将高电压控制脉冲施加于X-,Y-,Z-电极驱动单元130,140和150。
这样,如图2所示,Y-电极驱动单元140包括扫描驱动器210,以将扫描或维持脉冲施加于Y-电极。现有技术的扫描驱动器210是具有一对开关装置的集成电路(IC)组件。形成一个通道以将扫描或维持脉冲施加于Y-电极的一对开关装置需要使采用具有高强度的开关装置。由于现有技术的扫描驱动器210包括一对高强度开关装置,所以使得成本增加,并且IC组件的体积增大。
此外,对于在扫描过程中不被扫描驱动器210选择的通道,第一开关装置211-1至211-n一直接通以维持地电平。因此,功耗增加,导致对IC组件更多的损害。
例如,如果在扫描过程中选择了相应于第一Y-电极的通道Y1,就不选择其他的Y-通道Y2至Yn。一旦选择了相应的通道,相应于所选通道的第一扫描驱动器210-1的第二开关装置213-1以及扫描开关装置220被接通。同时,相应于未选择的通道的扫描驱动器210-2至210-n的第一开关装置211-2至211-n和接地开关装置230被接通。
一旦驱动了开关装置,并且一旦将数据脉冲施加于X-电极(X1至Xm),就在位于第一行的单元执行写入操作。而且,通过相应于其他Y-电极Y2至Yn的扫描驱动器210-2至210-n的第一开关装置211-2至211-n和接地开关装置230,使数据脉冲接地。
但是,这种情况下,由于未选通道(n-1)比选中通道数量多,所以由接地引起的功耗增加。并且极有可能由于在IC组件内的功率振荡而损坏设备。
图2中的标记240是将维持电压(+Vsy)施加于Y-电极的开关装置,并且在图2中的标记250是将维持电压(+Vsz)施加于Z-电极的开关装置。
发明内容
因此,本发明的目的是至少解决现有技术的问题和不足。
本发明的目的提供一种具有扫描驱动器的驱动等离子显示板的设备,其可提供简单的结构和较低的功耗。
在驱动等离子显示板的设备中,扫描脉冲和维持脉冲施加于每一个Y-电极,并且数据脉冲施加于X-电极,本发明的驱动设备包括经由一个Y-电极施加扫描脉冲的一个开关装置。该开关装置接通以将扫描脉冲施加于所选Y-电极,而其他开关装置断开。
通过仅用一个开关装置进行扫描过程和维持过程,本发明可以降低成本,并且缩小扫描驱动器的体积。特别地,仅有相应于所选通道的开关装置接通,而相应其他通道的开关装置断开,由此使得功耗最小化。

具体实施方式
以下,结合附图对本发明的优选实施例进行更详细的说明。
根据本发明的具体实施例,驱动等离子显示板的设备包括经由一个Y-电极施加扫描脉冲的一个开关装置,其中开关装置接通以将扫描脉冲施加于所选Y-电极,而其他开关装置断开。
该开关装置将负电压的扫描脉冲施加于所选Y-电极。并且,施加于X-电极的数据脉冲是正电压。
根据本发明具体实施例的驱动等离子显示板的设备还包括二极管,该二极管由维持脉冲触发接通,从而使得维持脉冲被施加于Y-电极。
当二极管接通时,开关装置断开。
二极管的阴极引出端连接到开关装置的一端。并且,二极管的阳极引出端连接到开关装置的另一端。
以下,结合附图对本发明的具体实施方式进行说明。
图3是根据本发明的具有扫描驱动器的驱动等离子显示板的设备的电路图。参考图3,根据本发明的扫描驱动器包括分别提供给多个通道的多个开关装置SW1至SWn及多个二极管D-1至D-n。这样,各开关装置SW1至SWn的一端连接到相应通道的多个Y-电极Y1至Yn中的相应的一个。二极管D-1至D-n的各阴极引出端连接到相应的开关装置的一端,并且二极管D-1至D-n的各阳极引出端连接到相应的开关装置的另一端。
以下,结合图3详细说明根据本发明的扫描驱动器在扫描和维持过程中的操作。
一旦接地开关装置330接通,所有的扫描驱动器310-1至310-n的Vpp1至Vppn端接地。即,相应于各通道的Y-电极通过接地二极管GD1至GDn中相应的一个具有地电平。
然后,数据驱动器340-1至340-m的输出端和特定扫描驱动器的开关装置SW1至SWn中的一个接通,而且除了特定扫描驱动器的开关装置以外的其余扫描驱动器的开关装置保持断开。
例如,对应于第一Y-电极Y1的扫描驱动器的开关装置SW1接通,而其余扫描驱动器的开关装置SW2至SWn保持断开的状态。因此,第一Y-电极Y1的电压电平变成-Vy,并且具有+Vd电平的数据脉冲施加于X-电极。+Vd与-Vy之间的电压差,即Vy+Vd被施加于单元以进行选择。而且,其余的未选Y-电极的各电压电平变成地电平。
这样,由于其余扫描驱动器的开关装置SW2至SWn断开,所以相应的功耗几乎为零。也就是说,在现有技术的扫描驱动器的情况下,相应于未选通道的扫描驱动器的开关装置是接通的,所以其电平变为地电平而增加了能量的消耗。相反的,在根据本发明的扫描驱动器中,由于一个开关装置断开,相应未选通道的扫描驱动器阻止了能量的浪费。
全部扫描驱动器以上述方式运行以在所有的Y-电极上进行扫描过程。在所有Y-电极上完成扫描过程后,相应的扫描驱动器执行维持驱动。
在维持过程中,如果维持开关装置350和接地开关装置360接通,并且如果扫描驱动器的开关装置SW1至SWn断开,则形成一包括维持电压源Vsy、扫描驱动器的二极管D1至Dn、Y-电极、单元、Z-电极、接地开关装置360和接地的回路,以被施加维持脉冲。
然后,一旦维持开关装置370和接地开关装置320接通,则形成一包括维持电压源Vsz、Z-电极、单元、扫描驱动器的二极管D1至Dn、接地开关装置330和接地的回路,以被施加维持脉冲。
本发明的扫描电极驱动单元,其特征在于采用对应一个扫描电极的一个开关装置,而现有技术的推挽式结构则不可避免地需要一对开关装置。这样,所选扫描电极的开关装置接通,而未选扫描电极的开关装置断开。
在现有技术的推挽结构中,如果未选扫描电极的一个开关装置断开,其他的开关就要接通接地,而带来一定功耗。本发明特征在于通过以下方式减少功耗:当扫描脉冲施加于扫描电极时,电流在所选扫描电极通过,而不从未选扫描电极通过。
图4是根据本发明的具有扫描驱动器的驱动等离子显示板的设备的波形图。如图4所示,如果扫描驱动器的开关装置SW1至SWn的其一接通,并且如果其余扫描驱动器的开关装置断开,则将-Vyscan施加于相应于特定扫描驱动器的Y-电极,并且将地电平施加于其余Y-电极。而且,通过在相应特定扫描驱动器的Y-电极上与-Vyscan的触发同步,将+Vd电压施加于X-电极。因此,选择具有Vd+Vyscan电压的单元以在其上执行数据写入操作。并且,对所有Y-电极执行这样的数据写入操作。
由于仅有所选的扫描驱动器的开关装置接通,且其余扫描驱动器的开关装置断开,所以本发明可以比现有技术降低功耗。而且,本发明允许使用较贵的一个开关装置,从而降低成本和扫描驱动器的体积。
例如,如果一个IC组件支持64通道,那么就存在64个扫描驱动器。本发明仅仅需要64个开关装置和64个二极管,但是现有技术的扫描驱动器配置有128个开光装置和128个二极管。因此,缩小了IC组件的大小,减少了至少50%的成本。
很显然,虽然本说明是如此进行描述的,但本发明可以进行多种变化。这样的变化不会被认为超出本发明的技术思想和范围,并且所有这些对本领域技术人员显而易见的的修改也将属于权利要求的范围之内。

Claims (20)

1、一种等离子显示板,其包括:
将数据脉冲施加于数据电极的数据电极驱动单元;
扫描电极驱动单元,具有多个开关器,用于在施加扫描脉冲时,允许电流在所选择的扫描电极通过,而不从未选扫描电极通过,以与由数据电极驱动单元施加的数据脉冲相对应。
2、如权利要求1所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,多个开关器中的每一个接通所选扫描电极或断开未选扫描电极。
3、如权利要求1所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,多个开关器中的每一个包括经由一个扫描电极的一个开关装置。
4、如权利要求1所述的等离子显示板,还包括二极管,在施加维持脉冲时所述二极管接通以将维持脉冲施加于扫描电极。
5、如权利要求3所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,所述开关装置包括场效应晶体管(FET)。
6、如权利要求3所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,开关装置将与施加到数据电极的数据脉冲具有相反极性的扫描脉冲施加于所选扫描电极。
7、如权利要求3所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,当二极管接通时,开关装置断开。
8、如权利要求3或4所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,二极管的阴极引出端连接到开关装置的一端;并且,二极管的阳极引出端连接到开关装置的另一端。
9、一种等离子显示板,包括:
将数据脉冲施加于数据电极的数据电极驱动单元;
扫描电极驱动单元,具有经由一个扫描电极的一个开关装置,其中,当施加扫描脉冲时,开关装置允许电流在所选扫描电极通过,而不从未选扫描电极通过,以与由数据电极驱动单元施加的数据脉冲相对应。
10、如权利要求9所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,所述开关装置接通所选扫描电极。
11、如权利要求9所述的等离子显示板,还包括二极管,在施加维持脉冲时所述二极管接通以将维持脉冲施加于扫描电极。
12、如权利要求9所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,所述开关装置包括场效应晶体管(FET)。
13、如权利要求9所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,所述开关装置将与施加到数据电极的数据脉冲具有相反极性的扫描脉冲施加于所选扫描电极。
14、如权利要求9所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,当二极管接通时,开关装置断开。
15、如权利要求9或11所述的等离子显示板,其特征在于,二极管的阴极引出端连接到开关装置的一端;并且,二极管的阳极引出端连接到开关装置的另一端。
16、一种驱动等离子显示板的方法,其包括以下步骤:
将数据脉冲施加于数据电极;和
控制多个开关器,该开关器用于在施加扫描脉冲时,允许电流在所选扫描电极通过,而不从未选扫描电极通过,以与由数据电极驱动单元施加的数据脉冲相对应。
17、如权利要求16所述的驱动等离子显示板的方法,其特征在于,多个开关器中的每一个包括经由一个扫描电极的一个开关装置。
