背景技术
本发明大体上涉及发送视频和数据到多个接收器。
目前存在着多种视频发送系统,例如有线发送网络、无线广播网络和卫星发送系统等。象任何一个服务提供商一样,播送系统试图提供给本系统的用户或观众最需要的内容。
但是决定哪些是用户最需要的内容是一个观众人口统计学上的复杂函数。惯例上播送者预测在一周特定的某几天中特定时间里的特定环境下某些统计观众会观看特定类型的节目,而事实上真正的观众人口统计简况变化是非常动态的。精确的预测不总是可能的。
因此,目前需要一个解决途径,通过视频发送系统能更加精确预测和发送当前观看的观众所感兴趣的内容。

具体实施方式
如图1所示,视频发送系统10向多个接收者例如接收器26,提供视频内容,视频发送系统10利用传送器24发送信息,传送器例如无线发送网络、有线广播网络或卫星发送系统等。
视频内容最初存放在内容数据库20上。数据库20存放的内容可以转发给内容选择器14。内容选择器14是一个基于处理器的系统,如服务器。在节目传输的过程中,节目内容被元数据22标识,内容文件被元数据标识是为了更易识别观众反馈回来与节目有关的文件。这样,标识提供了一种识别哪些节目是观众感兴趣的方法并使从观众到节目选择器14的信息反馈更加容易。
被标识的内容文件18接着交送给节目选择器14。节目选择器14再根据预定节目单16选择节目内容在系统中进行发送。信息通过传送器24进行发送并为接收器26接收。
接收器26在附着在其上的软件28的控制下把反馈信息提供给观众数据库12。特别地,反馈信息会以回答对节目选择器14提出的有关观众喜欢哪种节目的请求的形式保存。反馈也会包括在各种时间间隔接收器26调谐到的频道的信息。
反馈也可以是节目接收器26响应观众选择的而显示的节目内容的有关信息。例如,节目选择器14提供的内容不仅是节目内容同时还有所谓的辅助数据。辅助数据可以包括观众可选择的附加信息,与节目内容可能相关或无关。例如,辅助数据可能被连接到包含内容或节目的附加信息的因特网的页面上。类似地,辅助数据包括广告信息。辅助数据还会包括节目内容提供者认为观众可能希望接收的其他信息。
观众可以使用接收器26选择这些辅助信息。例如,接收器26可以是一个机顶盒,允许用户使用遥控器点击屏幕上出现的图标。这些图标指示了何种类型的辅助数据对观众而言是可用的。当用户鼠标在图标上点击的时候,屏幕显示变化为访问该辅助数据,操作可以直接通过接收器26或者间接通过象连接到因特网的反向信道频道44来完成。例如,观众会自动导向一个特殊的网站,它包含节目选择器14认为观众想观看的内容信息。
接收器26收集和提供给观众数据库12有关哪种内容被用户实际选择观看的反馈信息。这为有关当前观看观众的人口统计学提供有价值的信息。这些反馈信息用来动态调谐观众数据库12。动态调谐的观众数据库12用来自使发送内容适应当前听众的动态结合属性。
比如在工作日,特定城市的听众可能由基于家庭工作的人员组成。然而,如果这些城市经历了一场暴雪,学龄儿童观众会不同寻常地在白天时间里大量观看。在这种情况下,系统10会检测到这种当前观看观众观看习惯的变化。节目选择器14会自动改变已定节目单16,以提供更能够吸引当前积极观看的统计观众的节目内容。

按照本发明实施例如图3所示,内容选择器14上的内容选择软件36,可以从观众数据库12上接收观众数据,如块38所示。选择器14可以利用这些信息来自动动态地调节预先建立的人口统计学轮廓设定。
接收到的观众数据以元数据的形式从伴随着播送内容的标识得到。元数据标识从返回频道44由接收器26返回到观众数据库12。元数据指示观众实际上观看到的作为节目或者辅助数据的内容。这种反馈用来得到动态变化的人口统计学图形,如块40所示。

图4示意地展示了本发明一个实施例中内容是如何被改变来适应全部的或局域的人口统计学中的动态变化。图4的顶部,三个节目文件50a,50b和50c提供数据给节目A、节目B、节目C。比如每个节目都可以作为新闻广播部分播送。每个节目文件50还可以有附加的文件,如52,54,56所示。附加的节目可以迎合特定人群的需要。这样,基本的节目文件50可以提供了解一个新闻事件的基本信息。由增加的节目文件52,54,,56代表的扩充内容可以根据当前构成活跃观众的人口统计有选择的增加到基本节目50中。

例如,工作日的午间新闻通常会适应家庭工作的听众。但是当反馈显示典型听众已经改变,节目就会改变。例如,一个地理区域的大雪会造成学校关闭导致学龄观众的人数增加。与当地娱乐有关的新闻段会改变为与儿童感兴趣的娱乐相关的节目段。
