Description

用于个人数字辅助的虚拟显示器/ 键盘的方法和装置
本发明一般地涉及个人数字辅助(PDA)领域,同时更特别地涉及用于PDA的键盘。具体地,本发明提供节省PDA虚拟显示器/键盘的空间。
个人数字辅助(PDA),例如Apple Newton(Palm PILOT已成为非常有用的器件,用于携带式个人笔记本、日历、约定、电话号码、‘工作(to do)’表等。PDA是手提个人计算机,其帮助管理个人信息。期望PDA尽可能的小,例如象信用卡大小,因而可在皮夹、钱包、口袋和手提箱(Brief Case)等等中携带。对PDA的尺寸有两个主要的限制因素,一是要求有合适质量的显示,二是要求用户输入的某些装置例如键盘或笔输入的表面。在为了轻便而期望小的尺寸和为用户输入需要较大尺寸之间迄今而言有非常激烈的竞争。因此,为轻便而期望PDA相对的小,然而也要有合适大小的显示器和用户输入的表面。
本发明的上述和其他方面在有虚拟显示/键盘的个人数字辅助(PDA)中实现。在根据本发明的PDA中,该PDA用投射显示,以形成虚拟屏幕,以及用投射“手指传感器”,以在任何平直的发光着色的表面上形成一虚拟键盘。
通过阅读下面结合附图的对本发明的更具体的叙述,将可以更好的理解本发明的上述和其他的目的、特性和优点,其中:
图1为根据本发明的用于PDA的虚拟显示器/键盘的顶视图;
图2为根据本发明的用于PDA的虚拟显示器/键盘的侧视图;和
图3为用于按本发明的具有投射激光和传感器的PDA的虚拟显示器/键盘的顶视图,投射激光和传感器是用于确定手指敲击位置的。
图1示出将虚拟显示器104和虚拟键盘108投射到平直的发光着色表面上的PDA100的顶视图。投射表面102最好是基本白色的表面,如象一片纸。在虚拟键盘108上的虚拟键不是必需的但最好是成交错排列的型式以允许激光传感器拾取信号,如图2所示。投射物106通过若干投射技术中的一种来实现。一个例子是得克萨斯仪器公司数字微型反射镜显示器(DMD)。
图2是PDA100的侧视图,PDA100有投射物106,其从PDA卡100的顶边208发射到象一片白纸一样的基本平直的发光着色的表面200上。虚拟键盘108的指感是由激光束202完成,该激光束202是从PDA卡100的底边204发出来的,正好在平直的发光着色的表面200之上。因此当一个手指或笔300已遮断激光束202时,每个激光器302和306通过感觉都可能感觉到从返回激光的手指300到传感器装置例如CCD阵列304和308的反射,见图3。测量两激光器302和306各自到手指300的激光角度α和β将可以辨别出确切的键位置108。这使PDA100感觉到用户“接触”了键108,或象击一次键或象指明作用一样。
在工作中,正常地被显示在笔记本屏幕上或计算机CRT上的任何数据将被通过例如数字微型反射镜显示器投射到平直的发光着色的表面200上。还有,键盘108的虚拟键将被按交错排列的形式投射到发光着色的表面200上,于是当用户触摸或指明一个具体键时,在PDA卡100的底边上的激光传感器204将检测到被指出的键,同时PDA100好象实际键盘上一个键被按下一样接受输入。同样地,当PDA的应用例如从日历变到地址薄或个人笔记本时,虚拟键盘上各种键的功能可以随PDA100的有关应用作相应的变化。应指出的是,PDA投射基本大于PDA表面的虚拟显示屏104和虚拟键盘108。这就是为何用于可携带性的小PDA尺寸和大的显示器/用户输入表面的双重目标通过从小PDA卡投射很大的显示器/键盘来实现的原因。

Claims (8)

1.为一计算机建立虚拟显示器(104)和键盘(108)的方法包括下列步骤:
(a)所说的计算机将代表计算机显示的数据的虚拟显示(104)投
   射到基本平直的发光着色表面(102,200)上;
(b)所说的计算机将键(108)的虚拟键盘矩阵投射到所说的基本
   平直的发光着色表面(102,200)上;和
(c)所说的计算机利用远距离的传感装置(304,308),以确定
   被选定的虚拟键。
2.按权利要求1的方法,其中所说的传感装置(304,308)为确定被选定的虚拟键要包括下列步骤:
(1)所说计算机投射在所说平直的发光着色的表面(102,200)
   之上一点的并与其基本平行的一个激光束(202);
(2)所说激光束(202)穿过所说键(108)的虚拟键盘结构而被
   投射,使得当所说激光束(202)被手指或其他物体(300)
   遮断时,所说计算机就象已在实际键盘上选择了一个实际键
   那样处理输入。
(3)当一个虚拟键被选中时有读出。
3.按权利要求1的方法,其中所说的计算机是PDA(100)。
4.按权利要求2的方法,其中所说的基本平直的发光着色的表面(102,200)是白色的。
5.按权利要求2的方法,其中所说的基本平直的发光着色表面是一张基本白的纸。
6.按权利要求2的方法,其中投射步骤通过一数字微型反射镜显示器(106)来完成。
7.一种计算机的显示器/键盘包括:
一个虚拟显示器(104)通过数字微型反射镜显示器(106)从所说的计算机被投射到基本平直的发光着色的表面(102,200)上;
一个虚拟键盘(108)通过数字微型反射镜显示器(106)从所说的计算机被投射到所说的基本平直的发光着色的表面(102,200);和
两个激光传感器(302,306)穿过所说虚拟键盘投射,并基本平行于所说基本平直的发光着色表面,其中当所说激光传感器(302,306)在所说虚拟键盘(108)上的一虚拟键上被遮断时,所说计算机就象已在实际键盘上选择了一个实际键那样处理输入。
8.按权利要求7的显示器/键盘,其中所说的计算机是PDA(100)。
