发明背景
记录设备例如盒式磁带录像机(VCRs)，能够记录实时的内容用于以后的再次观看。VCRs可被预编程用来记录现场的电视广播。在典型的记录处理中，用户通过报纸的电视节目指南或电子节目指南(EPG)来确定用户所希望记录的内容。用户一般通过心算来确定什么内容是自己希望记录的。这种心算可能是基于此内容会在什么时间播出和确定用户是否能够在此播出时间收看此内容。在确定用户是否会在播出时观看此内容或者是否会记录此内容用于以后的观看时，需要考虑到几个因素。例如播出的时间，与其他的播出内容，或工作等其他的事情安排，或约会的限制等是否冲突这些因素。

然而，不论TTTOTM还是其他的现有技术系统都不能确定，以前确定的内容是否确实在播出时记录。时常，用户可能最初认为，他们将能够或者不能够在播出时观看内容，但用户的时间安排改变了。在现有技术的系统中，用户必须改变对记录设备的编程以正确的反映这些安排的改变。这需要重新编程进而使用户与这些记录设备的交互过程复杂化。
因此，本发明的目的是克服现有技术的缺陷。
本发明的另一个目的是提供一种简化记录设备的使用和操作的方法。
发明概述
本发明的这些和其他目的将通过一种记录设备实现，此记录设备使用一确定设备来确定用户是否能够在安排的时间观看用户选择的内容。首先，用户选择希望所述记录设备记录的内容。然后记录设备询问一数据库，例如电子节目指南(EPG)，用于确定用户选择的内容的安排时间。然后记录设备询问确定设备，例如日历设备。在记录设备确定在所选择内容的安排时间用户不在的情况下，记录设备记录所选择的内容。

记录设备110通过至少一个网络接线170，例如本地局域网(LAN)，和一个直接接线190被连接到显示设备140。接线170，190使记录设备110能够在显示设备140上显示编程信息和记录的内容。接线170，190还可使记录设备通过显示设备140从接收设备130接收EPG数据。记录设备110还可以通过接线195直接连接到接收设备130。EPG可以通过接线180从接收设备130被持续地提供给记录设备110，和/或被存储在存储器118中。

在步骤220，记录设备110询问EPG以搜索选择内容的出现。记录设备110被设计成可识别选择内容的各种形式的拼写。例如，若用户的选择内容是ER，则例如er，Er，eR，E.R.的其他拼写的形式都可以被识别。在选择内容的出现未被找到时，记录设备110可随后继续询问EPG来确定此选择内容是否即将出现。这个特点对于希望观看特定的选择内容但当其播出时并不知道的用户来说很有用。
记录设备110在其他的实施例中可以并不使用EPG来搜索选择内容的出现。在这些实施例中，记录设备110跳过步骤220，并依赖于用户能够正确输入对于选择内容部分的编程信息，或者记录设备110可使用编程功能例如VCRPlus+TM。
在任何情况下，当所选择的电视节目在EPG中找到，或被用户正确地编程时，处理器120，在随后的一段时间，在步骤230询问至少一个确定设备例如日历设备150。处理器120询问确定设备，用于确定用户在选择的电视节目播出时是否在场。在处理器120确定用户在选择的电视节目播出时不在场的情况下，处理器120对记录设备110编程记录选择的电视节目。
记录设备110对确定设备的询问可紧随对记录设备的编程之后，或最好在选择的电视节目的安排的播出时间之前的某个适当时间发生。在进一步的实施例中，记录设备110可检测用户在完成对记录设备的编程后，是否观看选择的电视节目一次以上。在这些实施例中，记录设备110再次检测用户对电视节目的收看率来确定用户的安排限制是否已改变，正如虚线的选项路径235指示的那样。
例如，在编程时，用户可以在星期四晚上十点观看ER节目。然而，在随后的一段时间，可能安排有一个会议，与用户观看电视节目相冲突。有利的是，记录设备可在希望的电视节目播出前再次询问确定设备，以确定用户的安排限制是否已改变。相反的情况也可以被检测，以确定原先用户不能够观看的电视节目，现在用户是否在场。
此外，记录设备110通过询问家庭监视设备160来确定家庭警报是否被设置，灯是否开着，其他视听设备是否开着等等，来确定用户观看选择内容的有效性。记录设备110还可询问显示设备140来确定显示设备140是否开着以及显示设备被调谐至哪个频道。在记录设备110确定显示设备开着并被调谐至不同于选择内容的另一频道时，记录设备110可产生一适当的提示，例如显示图标，在显示设备140上。
显示图标可使用户将显示设备切换至选项，使记录设备110停止记录该选项，启动一选择内容的画中画(PIP)窗口等等，或它们的任何组合。甚至在记录设备确定显示设备开着并且被调谐至选择内容时，记录设备可产生所述显示图标以确认用户不希望记录选择内容。这在多个当事人都对选择内容感兴趣但只有一个当事人能够观看的情况下是很有用的。在其他的情况下即使当时他们正在观看此选择内容，用户也可能希望记录选择内容。
如图2所示记录设备110还可随后确定选择内容的安排播出时间是否已改变。这确保了如果记录设备110确定此选择内容应当在那一刻时记录，则记录设备110在选择内容的播出时间具有当前的安排信息。此更新的安排信息可通过如上所述总是开通的EPG来得到，并可通过拨号连接接入点播，和/或被存储在存储器118中。
在某些实施例中，在步骤240，当记录设备110应当记录如上所述的所选择的电视节目时，记录设备110可确定磁带是否能用于记录所选择的电视节目的。记录设备110可确认磁带是可用的(例如被插入记录设备110中)以及确定在磁带上有足够的剩余记录空间来记录所选择的电视节目。

Claims (16)

1.一种记录设备(110)，可操作地连接到：
用户输入端(115)；和
判定设备(150，160)，用于确定是否有一个用户；所述记录设备包括一个处理器，被配置为从用户输入端接收对内容的一个用户选择，并且确定用户是否能够在安排的时间浏览相应的用户选择的内容。
