Fig. 1 shows an iron 1 with a metal soleplate 10 having a pointed front end and a rounded rear end, arranged opposite an accessory 100 mounted on the soleplate 10 of the iron 1.
The iron 1 comprises a housing 11 arranged above a soleplate 10 and comprising a gripping handle 12 arranged in a cantilever manner with respect to the soleplate 10, the handle 12 comprising a front end connected to the housing 11 and a free rear end protruding laterally from the housing 11.
The iron 1 is connected by a cord 3 to a portable base (not shown in the figures) containing a water tank for producing pressurized steam, the water tank comprising a steam outlet hole provided with a solenoid valve controlled by a trigger 13 arranged below the handle 12 of the iron 1. Preferably, the water tank is dimensioned for generating steam at a pressure of more than 4 bar and for providing the iron 1 with an instantaneous steam flow of more than 50 gr/min.
The housing 11 typically comprises an aluminum casting (not visible in the figures) in thermal contact with the soleplate 10 and comprising a heating resistor regulated by a thermostat. The castings contain a vapor distribution circuit that ensures the heating of the vapor and the evaporation of any condensate carried by the vapor that diffuses through vapor outlet holes 14 provided in the soleplate 10.
According to fig. 2 and 3, the accessory 100 comprises a body 101 made of plastic material, the shape profile of which is similar to the profile of the soleplate 10, the body 101 comprising an upper surface placed under the soleplate 10 and comprising an upper skirt 102, which encases the front tip and part of the side edges of the soleplate 10 when the accessory 100 is connected to the iron 1.
The upper surface of the body 101 comprises a steam inlet aperture 103 corresponding to the steam outlet aperture 14, the body 101 comprising a plurality of reinforcing baffles extending perpendicular to the upper surface of the body 101 and forming a hollowed out structure laterally delimited by a peripheral wall 110, advantageously extending over a height of 5mm to 10 mm.
This hollowed-out area of the body 101, laterally delimited by the peripheral wall 10, forms a vapor diffusion chamber 104 fluidly connecting the vapor inlet holes 103 of the upper surface and the vapor outlet lower opening 105 provided on the lower surface of the accessory 100.
The vapor diffusion chamber 104 comprises, inter alia, a central opening 106, which has the shape of a generally triangular with rounded corners, and two rear openings 107 facing the area of the soleplate 10, which are devoid of vapor outlet holes, which enable both the structure of the body 101 to be lightened, and a space to be created in which the vapor from the vapor inlet holes 103 can freely diffuse.
Preferably, the upper surface of the body 101 comprises a gasket 108 extending around the periphery of the accessory 100 while being slightly recessed with respect to the contour of the accessory 100, the gasket 108 extending at the edges of the steam inlet hole 103 and the rear opening 107. Advantageously, the body 101 further comprises a deflector wall 109 arranged facing at least a portion of the steam inlet aperture 103, which deflector wall enables a portion of the steam flow passing through the steam inlet aperture 103 to be deflected in the direction of the peripheral wall 110.
According to fig. 5 and 6, the body 101 comprises a lower lip 111, which is an extension of the peripheral wall 110, the lower lip 111 extending divergently downwards and defining the steam outlet lower opening 105 of the accessory 100.
The lower lip 111 forms a hanging surface for a vapor permeable fabric 112, preferably of the microfiber type, having a shape suitable for covering the lower opening 105 of the accessory 100.
According to the particular embodiment shown in the figures, the fabric 112 includes resilient elements extending therearound that allow the fabric 112 to be secured to the accessory 100 by elastic deformation of the contours of the fabric 112 engaging around the lower lip 111, as shown in fig. 6.
More particularly, according to the invention, the peripheral wall 110 comprises a plurality of escape openings 113 laterally passing through the peripheral wall 110 and establishing fluid communication between the vapor diffusion chamber 104, which is provided inside the body 101, and the outside of the accessory 100.
These vents 113 are advantageously symmetrically arranged on both sides of the accessory 100 and are surrounded by ribs 114 protruding from the peripheral wall 110. According to the particular embodiment of the invention shown in the figures, each side of the accessory 100 comprises two escape openings 113 extending directly under the upper skirt 102, between 2 and 4mm in height and around 5cm in length.
According to fig. 2, the body 101 further comprises a pad 115 made of elastomer, on which the soleplate 10 rests. These pads 115 advantageously comprise a first pad 115 provided at the front end of the accessory 100, in the region for receiving the front tip of the sole plate 10, and two rear pads 115 comprising a raised rear skirt for abutting the rear edge of the sole plate 10.
Two rear pads 115 are provided on either side of a fixed hook 116, the fixed hook 116 being provided at the rear end of the accessory 100, the fixed hook 116 being advantageously carried by a catch 117 made of plastic material, which is connected to the body 101 of the accessory 100 and mounted so as to be translatable along the longitudinal axis of the accessory 100.
According to fig. 4, the accessory 100 comprises a cavity arranged below the catch 117 and containing a return spring 118, which returns the catch 117 to the rest position, in which the fixing hook 116 returns towards the inside of the accessory 100.
Advantageously, the catch 117 comprises a tongue 119 protruding on the rear surface of the accessory 100, which allows manual traction to be applied to the catch 117 in order to displace the catch against the return spring 118 and to enable the fixing hook 116 to be displaced backwards in order to disengage the accessory 100 from the housing 11 of the iron 1.
The use and advantages of such an accessory will now be described.
When the user wishes to treat a fabric (e.g. a curtain, sofa or garment) with steam in order to clean the fabric by removing dust, particles, hair that may be present on the fabric, he places the accessory 100 on the soleplate 10 of the iron 1 by engaging the front end of the soleplate 10 with the front shoe 115 and then applying the soleplate 10 of the iron 1 on the rear shoe 115. During this operation, the securing hook 116 slides over the base plate 10 after translating against the return spring 118 and ensures that the accessory 100 is secured to the base plate 10.
The user then places the fabric 112 made of microfibers around the lower lip 111 of the accessory 100, the fabric 112 being held under tension on the accessory 100 due to the tension exerted by the elastic elements extending along the periphery of the fabric 112. The presence of the ribs 114 allows the edges of the fabric to be held under the plurality of exit openings 113 when the fabric 112 is placed on the accessory, thereby preventing the plurality of exit openings from being obscured by the fabric 112.
The user can then use the iron 1 equipped with the accessory 100 to steam the element to be cleaned by sweeping the accessory 100 across the surface to be cleaned while pressing the trigger 13 of the iron 1.
The steam flow exiting the outlet holes of the soleplate 10 then enters the steam diffusion chamber 104 through the steam inlet holes 103 of the accessory 100, and the presence of the gasket 108 in contact with the soleplate 10 prevents part of the steam flow from escaping laterally to the soleplate 10.
The steam flow through the accessory 100 contacts the fabric 112, participates in humidification of the fabric, and then is discharged outside the accessory 100 through the plurality of lateral escape openings 113 of the accessory 100.
Such a feature allows preventing steam from being confined in the steam diffusion chamber 104. This therefore limits the risk of condensation of steam inside the accessory 100. Furthermore, the location of the plurality of vents 113 and the cantilevered positioning of the handle 12 behind the floor 10 allow preventing steam exiting the plurality of vents 113 from sweeping over the area of the handle 12 with the risk of burning the user.
Thus, the accessory 100 is made such that when the accessory 100 is used with the iron 1 and the iron releases a high steam flow, the risk of condensate flowing through the sides of the accessory 100 to burn the user can be limited.
The invention is of course in no way limited to the embodiments described and illustrated, which are given as an example only. Modifications may be made, especially in matters of constitution of the various elements, or substituted with technically equivalent elements, without departing from the scope of the invention.
Thus, in a variant of implementation, not shown, the plurality of vents may have different shapes and be provided, for example, at least partially on the front surface of the accessory.
