根据发光层的材料,电致发光显示装置大致分为无机发光显示装置和有机发光显示装置。其中,有源矩阵型有机发光显示装置包括自发地发光的有机发光二极管(在下文中,称作“OLED”)。

当开关晶体管导通时,发光晶体管可以维持截止状态以使得数据电压被充电到第一电容器中,并且当发光晶体管导通时,开关晶体管可以维持截止状态以使得被充电到第一电容器中的数据电压被充电到第二电容器中。
在驱动晶体管中,漏电极可以连接到发光元件的阴极,源电极可以被提供有低电平驱动电压,并且栅电极可以连接到第二节点以根据充电到第二电容器中的数据电压的量值(magnitude)来控制施加到发光元件的驱动电流的量值。
在本公开的另一方面中,一种电致发光显示装置包括:发光元件,其具有施加有高电平驱动电压的阳极;驱动晶体管,其连接在发光元件的阴极和低电平驱动电压之间以根据栅极和源极之间的电压差控制发光元件的驱动电流;开关晶体管,其被配置为根据开关信号连接数据线和第一节点;第一电容器,其连接到第一节点以利用输入到数据线的数据电压进行充电;发光晶体管,其被配置为根据发光信号连接第一节点和第二节点;以及第二电容器,其连接到第二节点和驱动晶体管的源极节点。

当开关晶体管导通时,发光晶体管可以维持截止状态以使得数据电压被充电到第一电容器中,并且当发光晶体管导通时,开关晶体管可以维持截止状态以使得被充电到第一电容器中的数据电压被充电到第二电容器中。
用于发光元件的发光的驱动时段可以包括第一时段至第四时段,在第一时段中开关晶体管可以导通并且发光晶体管可以截止以使得数据电压被充电到第一电容器中,在第二时段中开关晶体管和发光晶体管可以截止以使得数据电压被保持在第一电容器中,在第三时段中开关晶体管可以截止并且发光晶体管可以导通以使得数据电压被充电到第二电容器中,并且在第四时段中驱动晶体管可以根据充电到第二电容器中的数据电压而导通以向发光元件施加驱动电力。
本公开的电致发光显示装置能够通过在显示黑色数据的发光关闭时段期间针对每行写入图像数据并且在完成图像数据写入时使所有行的像素同时发光以使得所有行具有相同的占空比,来防止或减小亮度偏差。

在本公开的电致发光显示装置中,像素电路包括驱动元件和开关元件。驱动元件和开关元件可以被实现为n型晶体管(NMOS)和p型晶体管(PMOS)中的至少一种。晶体管可以在显示面板中被实现为薄膜晶体管(TFT)。晶体管可以被实现为具有氧化物半导体图案的氧化物晶体管或具有低温多晶硅(LTPS)半导体图案的LTPS晶体管。晶体管是包括栅极、源极和漏极的三电极器件。源极是向晶体管提供载流子的电极。在晶体管中,载流子开始从源极流出。漏极是载流子通过其离开晶体管的电极。在晶体管中,载流子从源极流向漏极。在n型晶体管(NMOS)的情况下,源极电压低于漏极电压,使得电子可以从源极流向漏极,因为载流子是电子。在n型晶体管(NMOS)中,电流从漏极流向源极。在p型晶体管(PMOS)的情况下,源极电压高于漏极电压,使得空穴可以从源极流到漏极,因为载流子是空穴。在p型晶体管(PMOS)中,电流从源极流向漏极,因为空穴从源极流向漏极。需要注意的是,晶体管的源极和漏极不是固定的。例如,源极和漏极可以根据施加的电压而改变。因此,本公开不受晶体管的源极和漏极的限制。在以下描述中,晶体管的源极和漏极将被称为第一电极和第二电极。
用作开关元件的晶体管的栅极信号在栅极导通电压和栅极截止电压之间摆动。栅极导通电压被设置为高于晶体管的阈值电压的电压,并且栅极截止电压被设置为低于晶体管的阈值电压的电压。晶体管响应于栅极导通电压而导通并且响应于栅极截止电压而截止。在n型晶体管(NMOS)的情况下,栅极导通电压可以是栅极高电压(VGH),而栅极截止电压可以是栅极低电压(VGL)。在p型晶体管(PMOS)的情况下,栅极导通电压可以是栅极低电压VGL,而栅极截止电压可以是栅极高电压VGH。
在下文中,将参照附图详细描述本公开的各种实施方式。在以下实施方式中,将主要相对于包括有机发光材料的有机发光显示器来描述电致发光显示器。本公开的技术精神不限于有机发光显示装置,并且可以应用于包括无机发光材料的无机发光显示装置。
在整个说明书中,相似的附图标记指代基本等同的元件。在以下描述中,当确定与本说明书相关的已知功能或配置的详细描述可能不必要地混淆本说明书的主题时,将省略详细描述。
图1是根据本公开的实施方式的显示装置的示意框图。
参照图1,显示装置包括:显示面板10,其包括多个像素;面板驱动器,其包括用于驱动显示面板的数据驱动器12和选通驱动器13;以及定时控制器11,其用于控制面板驱动器的操作。
在显示面板10中,多条数据线14与多条选通线15A和15B交叉,并且像素SP以矩阵形式设置在交叉处以形成像素阵列。在像素阵列中设置有多个水平像素行HL1至HLn,并且一个水平像素行HL包括在水平方向上彼此相邻设置的多个像素SP。
选通线15A和15B可以包括施加有开关信号的第一选通线15A和施加有EM信号的第二选通线15B。每个像素SP可以连接到任何一条数据线14、任何一条第一选通线15A和任何一条第二选通线15B。
每个像素SP可以包括发光元件(在下文中,称为OLED)和用于驱动OLED的诸如驱动TFT和开关TFT之类的开关元件。像素SP从电力块(未示出)接收高电平驱动电压EVDD和低电平驱动电压EVSS。包括在像素SP中的OLED包括阳极、阴极和形成在它们之间的有机化合物层。有机化合物层包括空穴注入层(HIL)、空穴传输层(HTL)、发光层(EML)、电子传输层(ETL)和电子注入层(EIL)。当向阳极和阴极施加电源电压时,穿过空穴传输层(HTL)的空穴和穿过电子传输层(ETL)的电子移动到发光层(EML)并且形成激子,并且作为结果,发光层(EML)生成可见光。构成像素SP的TFT可以被实现为p型、n型或混合型。此外,构成像素SP的TFT的半导体层可以包括非晶硅、多晶硅或氧化物。
定时控制器11可以从外部接收输入图像数据DATA和诸如数据使能信号DE之类的定时信号。定时控制器11可以基于从外部输入的定时信号生成驱动数据驱动器12和选通驱动器13的操作所需的各种控制信号DDC和GDC。定时控制器11将从外部输入的输入图像数据DATA转换成使得它与数据驱动器12中使用的数据信号格式匹配,并且输出转换后的图像数据DATA。
数据驱动器12根据数据定时控制信号DDC将数字数据格式的图像数据DATA转换为数据电压,并且将其提供给数据线14。
选通驱动器13响应于从定时控制器11提供的选通定时控制信号GDC而生成扫描信号,将扫描信号提供给第一选通线15A,生成EM信号并将EM信号提供给第二选通线15B。
定时控制器11可以使用定时控制信号GDC和DDC来控制将图像数据写入到显示面板10的水平像素行HL1至HLn中的定时和发光定时。定时控制器11可以通过在像素SP发光的发光时段和停止发光的非发光时段中操作来实现黑色数据插入(BDI)操作。定时控制器11可以在非发光时段期间通过数据线输入数据电压,并且在发光时段期间控制施加有数据电压的像素SP以使得像素SP同时发光。
将参照图2描述由定时控制器11控制的数据写入定时和发光定时。
图2是用于描述根据本公开的实施方式的用于驱动电致发光显示装置的方法的图。
参照图2,定时控制器11可以执行黑色数据插入(BDI)操作以用于将黑色数据插入到一帧中。BDI是指在一帧内插入一个发光关闭时段,以便减轻TFT残像特性并且改进诸如运动模糊之类的视频质量。
定时控制器11控制数据驱动器12和选通驱动器13以在黑色画面被显示在显示面板10上的时段(黑色)中将图像数据依次写入到水平像素行HL(数据写入)。
当数据写入完成时,定时控制器11可以控制已写入图像数据的水平像素行HL1至HLn来同时发光。在发光时段期间,OLED根据写入到每个像素中的图像数据发光以实现图像数据。
定时控制器11可以控制显示面板10的所有水平像素行HL1至HLn来同时发光,或者将n个水平像素行划分成多个块并且控制每个块中的水平像素行来同时发光。如上所述,当水平像素行HL1至HLn同时发光时,它们全部具有相同的发光占空比,因此可以最小化亮度偏差。
图3示出了用于实现根据本公开的驱动技术的一个像素的配置。
参照图3,根据本公开的像素可以包括OLED、驱动薄膜晶体管(TFT)DT、开关TFTST、发光TFT ET、第一电容器C1和第二电容器C2。驱动TFT DT、开关TFT ST和发光TFT ET具有栅电极、漏电极和源电极。第一电极可以是漏电极并且第二电极可以是源电极。驱动TFTDT、开关TFT ST和发光TFT ET可以被实现为p型、n型或混合型。在以下描述中,将举例说明将TFT实现为n型的情况。
OLED包括阳极和阴极。OLED的阳极被提供有高电平驱动电压EVDD,并且阴极连接到驱动TFT DT的漏极节点。OLED的发光亮度可以根据输入到阳极的驱动电流的量来调整。
驱动TFT DT的栅电极连接到第二节点N2,漏电极连接到OLED的阴极,并且源电极被提供有低电平驱动电压EVSS。驱动TFT DT根据施加到栅电极的栅极电压和施加到源电极的源极电压之间的电压差Vgs来控制流过有机发光二极管OLED的电流量。
发光TFT ET的一个电极连接到第一节点N1,其另一电极连接到第二节点N2,并且发光信号EM被输入到其栅电极。当发光信号EM以导通电平输入以连接第一节点N1和第二节点N2时,发光TFT ET导通。
开关TFT ST的一个电极连接到数据线16,其另一电极连接到第一节点N1,并且开关信号SW被输入到其栅电极。当以导通电平输入开关信号SW时,开关TFT ST导通以连接数据线16和第一节点N1。开关TFT ST可以由开关信号SW导通以将提供给数据线16的数据电压VDATA发送到第一节点N1。
第一电容器C1的一个电极连接到第一节点N1,并且其另一电极被提供有低电平驱动电压EVSS。因此,当开关TFT ST导通并且因此数据线16连接到第一节点N1时,通过数据线16输入的数据电压VDATA可以被充电到连接到第一节点N1的第一电容器C1中。
第二电容器C2的一个电极连接到作为驱动TFT DT的栅极节点的第二节点N2,并且其另一电极连接到作为驱动TFT DT的源极节点的第三节点N3。因此,当发光TFT ET导通时,第一节点N1和第二节点N2连接,因此第一节点N1的电压被反映在第二节点N2中。第二电容器C2可以将施加到第二节点N2的电压反映为驱动TFT DT的栅极-源极电压Vgs。
如上所述,根据本公开的像素可以包括三个TFT DT、ST和ET以及两个电容器C1和C2,并且连接到一条数据线16而没有单独的参考线Vref。
图4是提供给图3的像素的信号的波形图。
参照图4,根据实施方式的像素驱动方法可以包括第一时段t1至第四时段t4。
数据电压VDATA在第一时段t1和第二时段t2上被施加为具有高电平电位的高电平数据电压DATA_H并且在第三时段t3和第四时段t4期间被施加为具有低电平电位的低电平数据电压VDATA_L。
在第三时段t3中以导通电平施加发光信号EM。因此,接收发光信号EM的发光TFTET在第三时段t3中导通以连接第一节点N1和第二节点N2。
开关信号SW在第一时段t1中以导通电平施加,在第二时段t2和第三时段t3中以截止电平施加,并且在第四时段t4以导通电平施加。因此,接收开关信号SW的开关TFT ST在第一时段t1中导通以将输入到数据线16的高电平数据电压VDATA_H传送到第一节点N1,在第二时段t2和第三时段t3中截止,然后在第四时段t4中导通以将低电平数据电压VDATA_L传送到第一节点N1。
根据前述的驱动波形,图像数据VDATA在第一时段t1中被写入到第一电容器C1中,写入的图像数据VDATA在第二时段t2被保持,并且存储在第一电容器C1中的图像数据VDATA在第三时段中被传送到第二电容器C2,因此OLED可以在第四时段t4中发光。
将参照图5至图8详细描述每个时段中的像素的操作。
图5是用于描述像素在第一时段t1中的操作的图。
参照图5,在第一时段t1中,高电平数据电压VDATA_H被施加到数据线16,开关信号SW以导通电平施加,并且发光信号EM以截止电平施加。因此,在第一时段t1中,开关TFT ST通过接收导通电平开关信号SW而导通,并且发光TFT ET接收截止电平发光信号EM并且维持截止状态。
随着开关TFT ST导通,数据线16和第一节点N1连接。因此,输入到数据线16的高电平数据电压VDATA_H被传送到第一节点N1。
由于发光TFT ET处于截止状态,所以第一节点N1和第二节点N2之间的连接被取消。因此,施加到第一节点N1的高电平数据电压VDATA_H被充电到连接到第一节点N1的第一电容器C1中,因此第一节点N1的电位增加到高电平数据电压VDATA_H。
在第一时段t1中,可以将高电平数据电压VDATA_H依次提供给所有水平像素行HL1至HLn,使得可以将数据写入到每个像素。
图6是用于描述像素在第二时段t2中的操作的图。
参照图6,在第二时段t2中,高电平数据电压VDATA_H被施加到数据线16,开关信号SW以截止电平施加,并且发光信号EM以截止电平施加。因此,在第二时段t2中,开关TFT ST通过接收截止电平开关信号SW而截止,并且发光TFT ET也通过接收截止电平发光信号EM而截止。
随着开关TFT ST截止,数据线16和第一节点N1维持断开状态。由于发光TFT ET也处于截止状态,所以连接到第一节点N1的第一电容器C1维持高电平数据电压VDATA_H被充电到其中的状态。
由于本公开的显示装置执行控制以使得在完成水平像素行HL1至HLn中的数据写入时像素同时发光,因此在第二时段t2期间执行到每个水平像素行的数据写入。因此,对于更早写入数据的像素,第二时段t2的持续时间可以更长,因此第二时段t2的持续时间可以根据像素所属的水平像素行而变化。
图7是用于描述像素在第三时段t3中的操作的图。
参照图7,在第三时段t3中,低电平数据电压VDATA_L被施加到数据线16,开关信号SW以截止电平施加,并且发光信号EM以导通电平施加。因此,在第三时段t3期间,开关TFTST通过接收截止电平开关信号SW而截止,并且发光TFT ET通过接收导通电平发光信号EM而导通。
随着开关TFT ST截止,数据线16和第一节点N1维持断开状态。发光TFT ET导通,因此第一节点N1和第二节点N2连接。因此,第一节点N1的电位也反映在第二节点N2中,因此高电平数据电压VDATA_H被充电到第二电容器C2中。因此,第二节点N2的电位增加到高电平数据电压VDATA_H。
图8是用于描述像素在第四时段t4中的操作的图。
参照图8,在第四时段t4中,低电平数据电压VDATA_L被施加到数据线16,开关信号SW以导通电平施加,并且发光信号EM以截止电平施加。因此,在第四时段t4期间,开关TFTST通过接收导通电平开关信号SW而导通,并且发光TFT ET通过接收截止电平发光信号EM而截止。
随着开关TFT ST导通,数据线16和第一节点N1连接。因此,通过数据线16输入的低电平数据电压VDATA_L被传送到第一节点N1。因此,第一节点N1的电位从高电平数据电压VDATA_H逐渐降低到低电平数据电压VDATA_L。
随着发光TFT ET截止,第一节点N1和第二节点N2之间的连接被取消。
驱动TFT DT通过充电到连接在用作栅极节点的第二节点N2和用作源极节点的第三节点N3之间的第二电容器C2中的高电平数据电压VDATA_H而导通。当驱动TFT DT导通时,生成通过OLED和驱动TFT DT从高电平驱动电压EVDD到低电平驱动电压EVSS的电流路径,因此OLED发光。由于流过驱动TFT DT的电流量是根据驱动TFT DT的栅极-源极电压Vgs来控制的,因此可以根据充电在第二电容器C2中的高电平数据电压VDATA_H来控制输入到OLED的驱动电流的量值,结果,可以调整OLED的发光亮度。
图9是用于描述根据本公开的第一实施方式的用于驱动电致发光显示装置的方法的图。
参照图9,根据第一实施方式的电致发光显示装置执行BDI操作,BDI操作包括OLED维持关闭状态以显示黑色画面的时段(黑色)和OLED发光以显示图像的发光时段(发光)。
在显示黑色画面的时段(黑色)中,开关信号依次输入到显示面板的水平像素行,因此写入图像数据VDATA。在所有水平像素行中的数据写入完成时,所有水平像素行的OLED发光以显示图像数据。
对于该操作,选通驱动器13在显示黑色画面的时段(黑色)期间将开关信号SW依次输入到所有水平像素行。当显示面板具有n个水平像素行HL1至HLn时,选通驱动器13将n个开关信号SW1至SWn依次输入到水平像素行HL1至HLn。数据驱动器12根据选通驱动器13的操作将图像数据VDATA依次提供给水平像素行HL1至HLn。
在完成对n个水平像素行HL1至HLn的数据写入时,发光信号EM被同时输入到n个水平像素行HL1至HLn。因此,所有水平像素行的OLED同时发光以显示图像数据。
在传统的驱动方法中,水平像素行HL1至HLn依次发光,因此会出现低电平驱动电压EVSS的电位在OLED发光的同时上升的EVSS上升现象。因此,考虑到传统的驱动方法中的EVSS上升,需要补偿图像数据VDATA。另一方面,在根据本公开的第一实施方式的电致发光显示装置中,因为图像数据VDATA是在显示黑色画面的时段(黑色)(也就是说,所有OLED均关闭)期间写入的,所以可以去除EVSS上升的影响。此外,由于所有水平像素行的OLED同时发光并且因此具有相同的发光占空比,所以可以防止或减小由于像素行之间的发光占空比差异而导致亮度偏差被识别出。
图10是用于描述根据本公开的第二实施方式的用于驱动电致发光显示装置的方法的视图。
参照图10,根据第二实施方式的电致发光显示装置可以执行黑色数据插入(BDI)操作,其中所有水平像素行HL1到HLn被划分成多个块B1至Bm并且以块为单位控制图像数据VDATA写入和发光操作。
在每个块中,在显示黑色画面的时段期间依次写入图像数据VDATA,并且在完成到对应块的数据写入时对应块的水平像素行同时发光以显示图像数据。当完成图像数据VDATA到前一块的写入时,到下一块的数据写入可以开始并且可以在前一块的发光时段期间在显示黑色画面的同时被执行。以这种方式,可以在块B1至Bm中的每一个中依次执行数据写入和发光操作以显示一帧。
与第一实施方式的驱动方法相比,根据第二实施方式的用于驱动电致发光显示装置的方法可以扩展发光时间。另一方面,由于在前一块处于发光状态的同时执行对下一块的数据写入,所以会发生EVSS上升现象。因此,考虑到EVSS上升,需要补偿图像数据VDATA。
图11至图13是用于描述当驱动电致发光显示装置时用于补偿EVSS变化值的方法的图。
图11是示出当输入图像数据时发生的EVSS变化的仿真结果的图表。
图11的仿真图表示出了当数据驱动器位于垂直编号为0到2101的显示装置的顶部并提供图像数据时仿真EVSS值中的改变的结果。
根据仿真图表,当显示面板被驱动时,EVSS上升,在垂直编号500到1000的范围内EVSS被测量为2.5V或更高,在垂直编号1000到1500的范围内被测量为2.0V,在垂直编号1500附近被测量为1.5V,在垂直编号1500到2000的范围内逐渐降低到1.0V,并在最后提供图像数据的垂直编号2000附近被测量为约0.5V。
也就是说,可以确定距数据驱动器的距离越长,EVSS上升越高。如果EVSS值增加,即使输入相同灰度级的数据,亮度也降低。图11的仿真结果是在流过一个像素的OLED的电流IPXL为1.4μA并且电阻为0.77的假设下仿真每个水平像素行的EVSS值的结果。从仿真结果可以确定,上限EVSS值和下限EVSS值之间存在约2.4V的差异。当以这种方式存在EVSS差异时,在相同灰度级下,显示面板的上部和下部的亮度之间可以存在约87%的差异。为了改善这种亮度不均匀性,可以通过反映其中的EVSS变化来补偿数据电压。
图12是用于描述用于补偿EVSS中的改变的操作时间的图,并且图13是显示面板的一条垂直线的等效电路图。
参照图12和图13,每个位置的EVSS在第一帧结束的时间点(Frame-End(帧-结束))被存储,以便补偿EVSS变化。当显示面板包括n个水平像素行HL1至HLn时,可以在一条垂直线中存储n个电压值。
此后,在用于驱动下一第二帧的数据写入(Frame-Writing(帧-写入))期间,使用在前一帧结束的时间点存储的EVSS电压计算EVSS变化。此后,可以通过反映EVSS变化来补偿图像数据的电压。图13是显示面板的一条垂直线的等效电路图。显示面板包括第一水平像素行HL1至第n水平像素行HLn,以第一水平像素行HL1至第n水平像素行HLn的顺序输入数据,并且OLED以相同的顺序发光。
在本实施方式中,提供数据电压的数据驱动器位于与第n水平像素行HLn相邻,即,在图的下端。垂直线上的电阻R表示像素的电阻,并且电流I1至In是施加到像素的电流。电流的箭头方向指示当OLED发光时的电流流动。
假设像素的电流从第一水平像素行HL1流向第n水平像素行HLn,则每个像素的电压可以被计算为对应像素的电阻和电流的乘积(V=IR)。
在帧结束的时间点(帧-结束)处的像素行的EVSS电压V1至Vn可以通过以下计算方法来计算。这里,帧结束的时间点(帧-结束)是在第一水平像素行HL1中结束发光并且在第n水平像素行HLn中开始发光的时间点,如图12所示。
<帧-结束处的EVSS电压>
这里,(j=垂直编号)。因此,IS1=I1,IS2=I1+I2,IS3=I1+I2+I3。点V1处的电压是点V2处的电压和通过将I1乘以电阻而获得的电压I1*R之和。也就是说,V1=V2+IS1*R。同样地,点V2处的电压是点V3处的电压与将I1+I2乘以电阻而获得的电压之和。也就是说,V2=V3+IS2*R。这里,由于V1=V2+IS1*R并且V2=V3+IS2*R,所以它可以表示为V1=V3+(IS1+IS2)*R。如果将用于计算V1的公式中的V3以同样的方式代入V4并且最终将Vn替换为ISn*R,则V1可以表示为/>通过上述计算方法,可以计算出帧结束的时间点处的电压。
此后,当写入下一帧的数据时,使用在前一帧结束的时间点(帧-结束)处计算的EVSS电压计算EVSS变化,并且通过反映计算出的EVSS变化来对要写入的数据电压进行补偿。这里,对于黑色画面的区域,将电流替换为0并存储。
在用于驱动帧的帧-写入时段中,EVSS变化可以通过以下计算方法计算。计算公式中的撇号(')表示在前一帧中计算的值。
<帧-写入时段期间的EVSS变化>
如图12所示,第一水平像素行HL1中的发光在前一帧结束的时间点(帧-结束)完成,因此下一帧的数据被写入。因此,由于第一水平像素行HL1的电压在计算电压V1之后直到写入下一帧的数据为止不改变,所以计算V1=V1'。
第二水平像素行HL2的电压V2通过反映第一水平像素行HL1的电流改变来计算,因为第一水平像素行HL1的电流在帧结束的时间点(帧-结束)处已经改变。电流改变是通过从要在当前帧中施加到第一行的电流IS1中减去前一帧中流过的第一行的电流IS1'来计算的,并且当前帧中的V2可以通过将电流改变乘以通向数据驱动器的电阻R*(n-1)来计算。
通过将如上所述计算的EVSS值反映在用于数据写入的数据电压中以计算补偿后的数据电压并且写入补偿后的数据电压,即使EVSS改变,也可以获得目标亮度。
上述计算和补偿EVSS的过程可以在定时控制器11的控制下连同诸如驱动TFT补偿和OLED补偿等的补偿功能一起执行,但不限于此。
如上所述,为了补偿EVSS变化,在写入数据之前计算对应行的EVSS变化值,然后提供通过反映EVSS变化值而补偿的数据电压。由于以一个水平像素行为单位写入数据并发光,因此基于一个水平像素行计算EVSS变化值并且根据其进行补偿。以此方式,当所有水平像素行HL1至HLn被划分为多个块B1至Bm时,图像数据VDATA以块为单位写入,并且对应块的水平像素行在数据写入完成时同时发光,如在本公开的第二实施方式中,可以以块为单位在每个发光定时处计算EVSS。例如,当前一块的数据写入完成并开始发光时,可以计算下一块的EVSS变化值以补偿数据电压,然后可以写入补偿后的数据电压。
如上所述,在根据本公开的第一实施方式的用于驱动电致发光显示装置的方法中,图像数据VDATA在显示黑色画面的时段(黑色)期间被写入同时OLED维持在关闭状态,并且在数据写入完成时所有水平像素行的OLED同时发光以显示图像数据。在所有OLED关断的状态下,图像数据VDATA被写入,因此可以消除EVSS上升的影响。由于所有水平像素行的OLED同时发光并因此具有相同的发光占空比,所以可以防止或减小由于行之间的发光占空比差异而导致亮度偏差被识别出来。
在根据本公开的第二实施方式的用于驱动电致发光显示装置的方法中,通过将所有水平像素行HL1至HLn划分成多个块B1至Bm,可以以块为单位控制写入图像数据VDATA的操作和发光操作。由于以块B1至Bm为单位执行数据写入和发光操作以显示一帧,因此根据第二实施方式的用于驱动电致发光显示器的方法与第一实施方式的驱动方法相比可以扩展发光时间。
用于实现本公开的第一实施方式和第二实施方式的驱动方法的本公开的像素电路可以包括三个TFT DT、ST和ET以及两个电容器C1和C2,并且可以连接到一条数据线16而无需单独的参考线Vref。在本公开的像素电路中,可以在显示黑色画面的时段(黑色)期间将图像数据电压存储在第一电容器C1中,并且当输入发光信号EM时,可以将图像数据电压传送到控制驱动TFT的栅极-源极电压的第二电容器C2。
本领域技术人员将认识到,在不脱离本公开的精神或范围的情况下,可以在本公开中做出各种修改和变化。因此,本公开不应限于本文所述的具体实施方式,而是应当符合与本文所公开的原理和新颖特征相一致的最宽范围。
本申请要求于2021年12月24日提交的韩国专利申请No.10-2021-0187457的权益,该申请通过引用合并于此,如同在本文中完整阐述一样。
Claims (16)
1.一种电致发光显示装置,所述电致发光显示装置包括:
显示面板,所述显示面板包括多个像素,每个像素具有发光元件和用于控制流过所述发光元件的驱动电流的驱动TFT并且连接到数据线和选通线;
面板驱动器,所述面板驱动器连接到所述数据线和所述选通线;以及
定时控制器,所述定时控制器被配置为控制所述面板驱动器的操作以使得所述操作被划分为所述发光元件发光的发光时段和停止发光的非发光时段,并且执行控制以使得在所述非发光时段期间通过所述数据线输入数据电压并且在所述发光时段期间施加有所述数据电压的所述发光元件同时发光。
2.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述定时控制器通过执行控制以使得在所述发光时段期间显示图像并且在所述非发光时段期间显示黑色图像来实现黑色数据插入BDI操作。
3.根据权利要求2所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,在所述非发光时段期间,所述数据电压被依次写入到所述多个像素,并且所述发光元件关断以显示所述黑色图像。
4.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述定时控制器执行控制以使得在所述非发光时段期间所述数据电压被依次输入到所述显示面板的所有像素行并且在所述发光时段期间所有像素行同时发光。
5.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述定时控制器将所述显示面板的水平像素行划分为多个块并且执行控制以使得以划分的块为单位依次输入所述数据电压并且水平像素行以块为单位同时发光。
6.根据权利要求5所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述定时控制器基于低电平电压的根据所述发光元件的发光的改变来补偿所述数据电压。
7.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述面板驱动器包括:
数据驱动器,所述数据驱动器被配置为向所述数据线提供所述数据电压;以及
选通驱动器,所述选通驱动器被配置为依次输出用于输入所述数据电压的开关信号并且向施加有所述数据电压的像素同时输出发光信号。
8.一种电致发光显示装置,所述电致发光显示装置包括:
显示面板,在所述显示面板中数据线与选通线交叉并且设置有多个像素;
数据驱动器,所述数据驱动器被配置为向所述数据线提供数据电压;以及
选通驱动器,所述选通驱动器被配置为依次输出用于输入所述数据电压的开关信号并且向施加有所述数据电压的像素同时输出发光信号,
其中,每个所述像素包括:
发光元件,所述发光元件具有施加有高电平驱动电压的阳极;
驱动晶体管,所述驱动晶体管连接在所述发光元件的阴极和低电平驱动电压之间以根据栅极和源极之间的电压差控制所述发光元件的驱动电流;
开关晶体管,所述开关晶体管被配置为根据对应的开关信号连接对应的数据线和第一节点;
发光晶体管,所述发光晶体管被配置为根据所述发光信号连接所述第一节点和第二节点;
第一电容器,所述第一电容器连接到所述第一节点以利用施加到所述数据线的数据电压进行充电;以及
第二电容器,所述第二电容器连接到所述第二节点和所述驱动晶体管的源极节点以在所述发光信号被输入时利用充电到所述第一电容器中的所述数据电压作为所述驱动晶体管的栅极-源极电压进行充电。
9.根据权利要求8所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述第一电容器在所述发光元件关断时利用所述数据电压进行充电。
10.根据权利要求8所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,当所述开关晶体管导通时,所述发光晶体管维持截止状态以使得所述数据电压被充电到所述第一电容器中,并且当所述发光晶体管导通时,所述开关晶体管维持截止状态以使得被充电到所述第一电容器中的所述数据电压被充电到所述第二电容器中。
11.根据权利要求8所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,在所述驱动晶体管中,漏电极连接到所述发光元件的所述阴极,源电极被提供有所述低电平驱动电压,并且栅电极连接到所述第二节点以根据充电到所述第二电容器中的所述数据电压的量值来控制施加到所述发光元件的驱动电流的量值。
12.一种电致发光显示装置,所述电致发光显示装置包括:
发光元件,所述发光元件具有施加有高电平驱动电压的阳极;
驱动晶体管,所述驱动晶体管连接在所述发光元件的阴极和低电平驱动电压之间以根据栅极和源极之间的电压差控制所述发光元件的驱动电流;
开关晶体管,所述开关晶体管被配置为根据开关信号连接数据线和第一节点;
第一电容器,所述第一电容器连接到所述第一节点以利用输入到所述数据线的数据电压进行充电;
发光晶体管,所述发光晶体管被配置为根据发光信号连接所述第一节点和第二节点;以及
第二电容器,所述第二电容器连接到所述第二节点和所述驱动晶体管的源极节点。
13.根据权利要求12所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述第一电容器在所述发光元件关断时利用所述数据电压进行充电。
14.根据权利要求12所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,当所述发光信号被输入时,所述第二电容器利用充电到所述第一电容器中的所述数据电压作为所述驱动晶体管的栅极-源极电压进行充电。
15.根据权利要求12所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,当所述开关晶体管导通时,所述发光晶体管维持截止状态以使得所述数据电压被充电到所述第一电容器中,并且当所述发光晶体管导通时,所述开关晶体管维持截止状态以使得被充电到所述第一电容器中的所述数据电压被充电到所述第二电容器中。
16.根据权利要求12所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述发光元件的用于发光的驱动时段包括第一时段、第二时段、第三时段和第四时段,
在所述第一时段中,所述开关晶体管导通并且所述发光晶体管截止以使得所述数据电压被充电到所述第一电容器中,
在所述第二时段中,所述开关晶体管和所述发光晶体管截止以使得所述数据电压被保持在所述第一电容器中,
在所述第三时段中,所述开关晶体管截止并且所述发光晶体管导通以使得所述数据电压被充电到所述第二电容器中,并且
在所述第四时段中,所述驱动晶体管根据充电到所述第二电容器中的所述数据电压而导通以向所述发光元件施加驱动电力。
