背景
量子点是由在施加电流或光时发射特定频率的光的纳米材料制成的粒子。量子点发射的光的频率可以通过改变点的尺寸、形状和材料类型改变。量子点的一种应用是电光显示器,具体地是LED显示器,因为改善的颜色准确性的潜力。
应用于材料或显示器的术语“电光”在本文中以其在成像领域中的常规含义使用,是指具有在至少一种光学性质方面不同的第一显示状态和第二显示状态的材料,通过向材料施加电场,材料从其第一显示状态变为其第二显示状态。尽管光学性质一般是人眼可感知的颜色,但它可能是另一种光学性质,诸如光透射、反射、发光,或者在意图用于机器阅读的显示器的情况下,在可见光范围之外的电磁波长的反射率变化的意义上的伪彩色。

概述

具有多个微孔的聚合物材料层可以包括但不限于热塑性或热固性材料或其前体,诸如多官能乙烯基,包括但不限于丙烯酸酯、甲基丙烯酸酯、烯丙基、乙烯基苯、乙烯基醚、多官能环氧化物和其低聚物或聚合物等。经常使用多官能丙烯酸酯及其低聚物。多官能环氧化物和多官能丙烯酸酯的组合也可用于实现微孔的期望的物理-机械性质。还可以添加低Tg(玻璃化转变温度)粘结剂或赋予柔性的可交联低聚物,诸如氨基甲酸乙酯丙烯酸酯或聚酯丙烯酸酯,以改善膜的抗弯曲性。
包含多个微孔的聚合物材料层提供了柔性基底,从而能够使用各种印刷或涂覆技术,其中一些技术可能是廉价的,以便用含有量子点的分散体填充微孔。(文字“印刷”的使用意图包括所有形式的印刷和涂覆,其包括但不限于:预计量式涂覆(pre-meteredcoatings)诸如小块模具型涂覆(patch die coating)、狭缝式或挤压涂覆(slot orextrusion coating)、斜板式或级联式涂覆(slide or cascade coating)、幕涂;辊涂诸如辊衬刮刀涂覆(knife over roll coating、正反辊涂(forward and reverse rollcoating);凹版涂覆(gravure coating);浸涂;喷涂;弯液面涂覆(meniscus coating);旋涂;刷涂;气刀涂覆;丝网印刷方法;静电印刷方法;热印刷方法;喷墨印刷方法;电泳沉积(参见第7,339,715号美国专利);以及其它相似技术。)此外,由于所得量子点膜可能是柔性的,因此这些膜可以结合到柔性显示器中。
聚合物材料还可以包括极性低聚物或聚合物材料。这种极性低聚物或聚合物材料可以选自具有至少一种基团诸如硝基(-NO2)、羟基(-OH)、羧基(-COO)、烷氧基(-OR,其中R是烷基基团)、卤素(例如氟、氯、溴或碘)、氰基(-CN)、磺酸酯(-SO3)等的低聚物或聚合物。极性聚合物材料的玻璃化转变温度优选低于约100℃,更优选低于约60℃。合适的极性低聚物或聚合物材料的具体实例可以包括但不限于多羟基官能化聚酯丙烯酸酯(诸如BDE1025,Bomar Specialties Co,Winsted,CT)或烷氧基化丙烯酸酯,诸如乙氧基化壬基苯酚丙烯酸酯(例如,SR504,Sartomer Company)、乙氧基化三羟甲基丙烷三丙烯酸酯(例如,SR9035,Sartomer Company)或乙氧基化季戊四醇四丙烯酸酯(例如,SR494,来自SartomerCompany)。
供选择地,聚合物材料可包含(a)至少一种双官能UV可固化组分,(b)至少一种光引发剂,和(c)至少一种脱模剂。合适的双官能组分可以具有高于约200的分子量。优选双官能丙烯酸酯,特别优选具有氨基甲酸乙酯或乙氧基化主链的双官能丙烯酸酯。更具体地,合适的双官能组分可以包括但不限于二甘醇二丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Sartomer的SR230)、三甘醇二丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Sartomer的SR272)、四甘醇二丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Sartomer的SR268)、聚乙二醇二丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Sartomer的SR295、SR344或SR610)、聚乙二醇二甲基丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Sartomer的SR603、SR644、SR252或SR740)、乙氧基化双酚A二丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Sartomer的CD9038、SR349、SR601或SR602)、乙氧基化双酚A二甲基丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Sartomer的CD540、CD542、SR101、SR150、SR348、SR480或SR541),和氨基甲酸乙酯二丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Sartomer的CN959、CN961、CN964、CN965、CN980或CN981;来自Cytec的Ebecryl 230、Ebecryl 270、Ebecryl 8402、Ebecryl 8804、Ebecryl 8807或Ebecryl 8808)。合适的光引发剂可包括但不限于双酰基氧化膦、2-苄基-2-(二甲基氨基)-1-[4-(4-吗啉基)苯基]-1-丁酮、2,4,6-三甲基苯甲酰基二苯基氧化膦、2-异丙基-9H-噻吨-9-酮、4-苯甲酰基-4'-甲基二苯硫和1-羟基-环己基-苯基-酮、2-羟基-2-甲基-1-苯基-丙烷-1-酮、1-[4-(2-羟基乙氧基)-苯基]-2-羟基-2-甲基-1-丙烷-1-酮、2,2-二甲氧基-1,2-二苯基乙-1-酮或2-甲基-1[4-(甲硫基)苯基]-2-吗啉代丙-1-酮。合适的脱模剂可以包括但不限于有机改性的有机硅共聚物,诸如有机硅丙烯酸酯(例如,来自Cytec的Ebecryl1360或Ebecryl 350)、有机硅聚醚(例如,来自Momentive的Silwet 7200、Silwet 7210、Silwet 7220、Silwet 7230、Silwet 7500、Silwet7600或Silwet 7607)。该组合物还可任选地另外包含一种或多种以下组分,共引发剂、单官能UV可固化组分、多官能UV可固化组分或稳定剂。
提供具有微孔的聚合物材料的优选方法是通过在聚合物材料的一个表面上施加微结构图案,诸如第6,930,818号美国专利中描述的方法,其内容通过引用整体并入本文。例如,在其外表面上具有三维图案的滚筒可用于在卷对卷工艺中压印聚合物材料的连续片材。例如,滚筒表面上的图案可以是多个微柱的形式。
分散体中的量子点材料可以包含一种或多种具有一种或多种粒度的粒子材料。在本发明的优选的实施方案中,量子点材料在暴露于蓝色光时发射绿色光和红色光。量子点材料可以包括但不限于CdSe核/壳发光纳米晶体,诸如CdSe/ZnS、InP/ZnS、PbSe/PbS、CdSe/CdS、CdTe/CdS或CdTe/ZnS纳米晶体。
量子点材料优选以直径基本上小于可见光的波长的纳米粒子的形式提供。本文使用术语“直径”以包括通常称为非球形粒子的“当量直径”的那些。本发明中使用的纳米粒子不需要是球形的或者甚至基本上是球形的。可以使用非球形和复合粒子,例如其中一种材料的核被不同材料的壳包围的粒子,实现纳米粒子显示器性质的变化,并且本发明扩展到使用这种非球形和/或复合粒子的纳米粒子显示器和组件。
本发明中使用的非球形纳米粒子(其一般全部或部分由导电材料形成)可以具有多种形状。例如,这种粒子可以具有椭球体的形式,其可以具有不同长度的所有三个主轴,或者可以是扁圆形或扁长的旋转椭球体。供选择地,非球形纳米粒子可以是层状形式,术语“层状”在本文中以广义使用以表示沿一个轴的最大尺寸显著小于沿其他两个轴中的每一个的最大尺寸的物体;因此,这种层状纳米粒子可以具有类似于照相胶片中众所周知的片状卤化银粒子的形式。非球形纳米粒子还可以具有棱锥或圆锥截头体或细长棒的形式。最后,纳米粒子的形状可以是不规则的。用于本发明的复合(核/壳)纳米粒子可以具有前面段落中讨论的任何形式,并且一般包括围绕绝缘核的导电壳,或围绕导电核的电绝缘壳。绝缘核可由例如硅、二氧化钛、氧化锌、硅酸铝、各种无机盐或硫形成。与上面讨论的简单纳米粒子一样,复合纳米粒子可以经受表面改性,例如以控制粒子彼此粘附或粘附到它们接触的任何表面的程度。一种优选的表面改性类型是将聚合物附着到纳米粒子的表面。
如前所述,本发明的各种实施方案的一个方面是,当密封在微孔中时,量子点可以保持分散体的形式。如本文所述,用于填充微孔的分散体可以优选地包含不少于0.01重量%、0.02重量%、0.04重量%、0.06重量%、0.08重量%、0.1重量%、0.2重量%、0.3重量%、0.4重量%、0.5重量%的量子点,优选以给定的顺序增加,并且独立地优选不超过,至少为了经济,不超过0.6重量%、0.7重量%、0.8重量%、0.9重量%、1.0重量%、2.0重量%、3.0重量%、4.0重量%、5.0重量%、6.0重量%、7.0重量%、8.0重量%、9.0重量%、10重量%的量子点,优选以给定的顺序增加。
溶剂可以是流体,优选为透明且无色的液体,更优选为具有折射率与透光微孔和/或密封层的折射率相匹配的流体。合适的溶剂的实例包括烃诸如己烷、异链烷烃(isopar)、十氢萘(DECALIN)、5-亚乙基-2-降冰片烯、脂肪油、石蜡油、硅流体,芳烃诸如甲苯、二甲苯、苯二甲苯基乙烷、十二烷基苯或烷基萘,卤化溶剂诸如氯仿、全氟萘烷、全氟甲苯、全氟二甲苯、二氯三氟甲苯、3,4,5-三氯三氟甲苯、氯五氟苯、二氯壬烷或五氯苯,以及全氟溶剂诸如来自3M Company,St.Paul MN的FC-43、FC-70或FC-5060,低分子量含卤素聚合物诸如来自TCI America,Portland,Oregon的聚(全氟环氧丙烷),聚(三氟氯乙烯)诸如来自Halocarbon Product Corp.,River Edge,NJ的Halocarbon Oils,全氟聚烷基醚诸如来自Ausimont的Galden或来自DuPont,Delaware的Krytox Oils和Greases K-Fluid系列,来自Dow-corning的基于聚二甲基硅氧烷的硅油(DC-200)。
用于密封微孔的密封材料层可以使用各种技术施加。例如,可以通过将热塑性或热固性前体分散在分散体流体中实现密封,其中热塑性或热固性前体在分散体流体中是不混溶的并且具有比显示流体的比重低的比重。在用前体/分散体混合物填充微孔后,前体相与分散体分离并形成上清液层,然后通过溶剂蒸发、界面反应、水分、热或辐射使上清液层硬化或固化。热塑性材料或热固性材料及其前体的具体实例可包括诸如单官能丙烯酸酯、单官能甲基丙烯酸酯、多官能丙烯酸酯、多官能甲基丙烯酸酯、聚乙烯醇、聚丙烯酸、纤维素、明胶等材料。可以将添加剂诸如聚合物粘结剂或增稠剂、光引发剂、催化剂、硫化剂、填料、着色剂或表面活性剂添加到密封组合物中以改善显示器的物理机械性质和光学性质。
在另一种更优选的方法中,可以通过在分散体填充的微孔上施加随后被干燥的包含水性组合物的密封层实现密封。在水性组合物中,密封材料可以是水溶性聚合物的水溶液。合适的水溶性聚合物或水溶性聚合物前体的实例可包括但不限于聚乙烯醇;聚乙二醇、其与聚丙二醇的共聚物及其衍生物,诸如PEG-PPG-PEG、PPG-PEG、PPG-PEG-PPG;聚(乙烯基吡咯烷酮)及其共聚物,诸如聚(乙烯基吡咯烷酮)/乙酸乙烯酯(PVP/VA);多糖诸如纤维素及其衍生物、聚(葡糖胺)、葡聚糖、瓜尔豆胶和淀粉;明胶;三聚氰胺-甲醛;聚(丙烯酸)、其盐形式及其共聚物;聚(甲基丙烯酸)、其盐形式及其共聚物;聚(马来酸)、其盐形式及其共聚物;聚(甲基丙烯酸2-二甲基氨基乙酯);聚(2-乙基-2-噁唑啉);聚(2-乙烯基吡啶);聚(烯丙胺);聚丙烯酰胺;聚乙烯亚胺;聚甲基丙烯酰胺;聚(苯乙烯磺酸钠);用季铵基团官能化的阳离子聚合物,诸如聚(2-甲基丙烯酰氧基乙基三甲基溴化铵)、聚(烯丙胺盐酸盐)。密封材料还可以包括分散在水中的水分散性聚合物。合适的聚合物水分散体的实例可以包括聚氨酯水分散体和胶乳水分散体。水分散体中合适的胶乳包括聚丙烯酸酯、聚乙酸乙烯酯及其共聚物诸如乙烯乙酸乙烯酯,以及聚苯乙烯共聚物诸如聚苯乙烯丁二烯和聚苯乙烯/丙烯酸酯。
再次参考图1,量子点膜10可以任选地包括单个释放片材或更优选地,双释放片材12、13。释放片材12、13优选在微孔固化、填充和密封之后施加,使得聚合物材料片材被夹在两个粘合剂层之间,粘合剂层中的一个或两个被释放片材覆盖。通过提供具有一个或多个释放片材的聚合物片材,量子点膜可以更容易地用于组装电光显示器的层压方法中。
例如,现在参考图2的实施方案,电光显示器20可以包括多个层压层,其中层之一是量子点膜23,如前所述。量子点膜23可以层叠在背光单元22和滤色器24之间。背光单元22可以任选地层压至反射基板21以引导光通过量子点膜23。背光单元22优选地包括一个或多个蓝色LED和被配置为将光均匀分布在显示器20上的光导板。
可以将开关介质(shuttering media)层26层压至滤色器24上,使得滤色器24位于量子点膜23和开关介质26之间。开关介质可以包括能够在一般透光状态和不透光状态之间切换的任何电光介质。背光单元22发射的蓝色光将通过量子点膜23,量子点膜23将一部分蓝色光转换为红色光和绿色光。红色光、绿色光和蓝色光将进入滤色器24并根据滤色器通过的滤色器部分进行过滤。例如,“R”部分将吸收绿色光和蓝色光,允许红色光通过,“G”部分将吸收红色光和蓝色光,允许绿色光通过,“B”部分将吸收红色光和绿色光,允许蓝色光通过。滤色器24的每个部分上方的开关介质可以独立地切换,以允许红色、绿色和蓝色光的组合和/或选择通过并最终由显示器发射。可用作开关层的电光介质类型包括但不限于液晶、电致变色材料和介电泳分散体。
为了控制开关介质,可以在开关介质层26和滤色器24之间提供一系列透光电极25,并且可以在开关介质层26的相对侧施加连续的透光前电极27。透光电极可以是例如铝或ITO的薄金属或金属氧化物层,或者可以是导电聚合物。最后,可提供透光保护层28作为显示器20的外观察表面。
如本领域技术人员将理解的,图2中所示的实施方案可以包括比所示的那些更多或更少的层。例如,可以在每一层之间结合另外的粘合剂层。供选择地,也可以将滤色器层24与多个透光电极25合并为一层,使得电极由透光的着色导电材料制成。在又一变型中,两个电极层25和27可以反转,使得连续电极层27夹在开关层26和滤色器24之间,并且多个透光电极25位于前保护层28附近。

Claims (13)
1.一种量子点膜,其包括多个密封的微孔,所述微孔形成在聚合物材料层内并用密封材料密封,并且所述微孔含有包含溶剂和多个量子点的分散体。
2.权利要求1所述的量子点膜,其中所述聚合物材料选自热塑性材料和热固性材料。
3.权利要求1所述的量子点膜,其中所述密封材料选自单官能丙烯酸酯;单官能甲基丙烯酸酯;多官能丙烯酸酯;多官能甲基丙烯酸酯;聚乙烯醇;聚丙烯酸;明胶;聚乙二醇、聚乙二醇和聚丙二醇的共聚物及其衍生物;聚(乙烯基吡咯烷酮)及其共聚物;多糖及其衍生物;三聚氰胺-甲醛;聚(丙烯酸)及其盐形式和共聚物;聚(甲基丙烯酸)及其盐形式和共聚物;聚(马来酸)及其盐形式和共聚物;聚(甲基丙烯酸2-二甲基氨基乙酯);聚(2-乙基-2-噁唑啉);聚(2-乙烯基吡啶);聚(烯丙胺);聚丙烯酰胺;聚乙烯亚胺;聚甲基丙烯酰胺;聚(苯乙烯磺酸钠);用季铵基团官能化的阳离子聚合物;聚氨酯水分散体;和胶乳水分散体。
4.权利要求3所述的量子点膜,其中所述密封材料是透光的。
5.权利要求1所述的量子点膜,其中所述溶剂包括液体。
6.权利要求1所述的量子点膜,其中所述分散体包含0.01至10重量%的量子点。
7.权利要求1所述的量子点膜,其中所述量子点包括选自CdSe/ZnS、InP/ZnS、PbSe/PbS、CdSe/CdS、CdTe/CdS和CdTe/ZnS的纳米晶体。
8.一种包含根据权利要求1所述的量子点膜的电光显示器。
9.权利要求8所述的电光显示器,其还包括发光层和滤色器层,其中所述量子点膜设置在所述发光层和滤色器层之间。
10.权利要求9所述的电光显示器,其还包括选自液晶、介电泳分散体和电致变色材料的开关介质层。
11.一种制造量子点膜的方法,其包括:
提供具有多个开口微孔的聚合物材料层;
用包含溶剂和多个量子点的分散体填充所述多个开口微孔;和
密封所述微孔。
12.权利要求11所述的方法,其中所述提供步骤包括将所述多个开口微孔压印到所述聚合物材料层中。
13.权利要求11所述的方法,其中所述分散体还包含可固化化合物,并且所述密封步骤包括固化所述可固化化合物以形成密封层并且在所述密封微孔内包含所述溶剂和多个量子点。
