Description

Hot plug method and device of external equipment

Background
At present, the competition of the server industry is intensified, but the server itself has reached the technical bottleneck, and the bright spots and advantages of products can not be improved. Based on this, peripheral devices of the server are continuously emerging to complete flexible configuration and implement different functions, and the server itself also needs to add part of hardware lines and functions to support the peripheral devices.
OCP (open computing project) cards have been widely used in the prior art, the standardization and modularization design thereof increases the universality thereof, and the hot plug mechanism thereof further increases the usability thereof, so that the OCP cards have become the standard configuration of servers, but the OCP hot plug in the prior art still has problems. Firstly, for Windows system, when the server is started, no matter the OCP card is in place or not, the CPU (central processing unit) can send out CPU Power EN signal, at this moment, the OCP card is inserted, and under the system interface, the OCP card can not be identified normally. Secondly, after the LED (diode) lamp is observed to be turned off, when the OCP hot-plug action is executed, the problems of Linux system breakdown and Windows system blue screen are problematically caused, the reason is that although the LED is turned off, the main line communication between the CPU and the OCP card has problematically delayed disconnection, and at the moment, the OCP card is forcibly pulled out, so that the problems are inevitably caused. Finally, after the system is powered on again, if the OCP card is powered on in place by default, if the OCP card does not work temporarily in the previous use setting, hot plug operation needs to be carried out on the OCP card of each machine again, and customer experience is seriously influenced.

In some embodiments, the method further comprises performing the steps of: while the power-on activation signal is masked by the hot plug controller, a hot plug signal is also generated and sent by the hot plug controller to the central processor to disable the central processor from the power supply enable signal.
The following further illustrates embodiments of the invention in accordance with the specific example shown in fig. 2.
Referring to fig. 2, the embodiment of the present invention uses a CPLD as a hot plug controller, uses a button as an annunciator to issue a hot plug instruction of a user to the CPLD, and uses an LED as a status indicator to display the operating status of the OCP card. GPIO (general purpose input output bus) shown inside the CPLD is a bus used for connection of buttons and LEDs, and I2C connection is used between the CPLD and the CPU.
The CPLD of the embodiment of the invention simulates the function of an IO Expander chip used in the prior art in the CPLD, can send the Button state to the CPU, and can analyze the I2C to obtain the CPU Power EN signal and the LED state.
For the Windows system, if the OCP card is not in place when the server is started and the CPU sends out a CPU Power EN signal and an LED signal, the CPLD can shield, the OCP card cannot be electrified, and the LED lamp cannot be lightened. Meanwhile, the CPLD can simulate a Hotplug signal in the I2C sent to the CPU, and informs the CPU to control the CPU Power EN signal to become invalid; and then after the OCP card is inserted, the CPLD does not shield signals any more, and the normal hot insertion operation of the OCP card can be completed through Button.
The LED lamp provided by the embodiment of the invention can be in three states: and the indicator is extinguished, flickered and pulled out and is in a disconnected state, a transitional state and a connected state respectively.
When OCP hot-plug action is executed, the CPLD can identify the state of the LED emitted by the CPU, and after the LED state flicker emitted by the CPU stops, the CPLD can delay the flicker time (for example, 10 seconds) on the basis, and then control the LED to be turned off. At this time, the CPU and the main line communication of the OCP are completely terminated, and the OCP card is pulled out. A sufficient delay may prevent corrupting the main line communication of the CPU and OCP.
When the system is powered off, the CPLD can identify the state of the OCP card and store the OCP card into the UFM. "0" indicates that the OCP card is powered off, and "1" indicates that the OCP card is powered on. After the system is powered on again, the CPLD reads the data in the UFM, if the data is '1', the CPLD can normally identify the control signal of the CPU, and thus the OCP card is powered on normally; if the signal is '0', the CPLD shields the CPU Power EN signal and the LED signal, and simultaneously simulates a Hotplug signal to inform the CPU to control the CPU Power EN signal to be invalid, thereby ensuring that the OCP card is in a non-working state.
As can be seen from the foregoing embodiments, in the hot plug method of an external device according to an embodiment of the present invention, by responding to the status indicator being in the off state and triggering the notifier, a hot plug signal is sent to the central processing unit through the hot plug controller, the central processing unit enables the power supply enable signal, and the status indicator is adjusted to the transition state through the hot plug controller; in response to the hot plug controller detecting that the external device is in place and the power enable signal is enabled, powering up the external device using the power enable signal based on the external device protocol, communicatively connecting, by the central processor, the external device over the bus and adjusting, by the hot plug controller, the status indicator to a connected state; sending a hot plug signal to the central processor through the hot plug controller in response to the status indicator being in the connected state and triggering the notifier, disabling the power enable signal by the central processor and adjusting the status indicator to a transitional state through the hot plug controller; the technical scheme that the external equipment is powered off by using the power supply enabling signal in response to the fact that the hot plug controller detects that the external equipment is in place and the power supply enabling signal is disabled, the central processing unit is disconnected from the external equipment in communication on the bus, and the state indicator is adjusted to the disconnected state through the hot plug controller after a time delay of a preset length can solve the problems of automatic power-on identification and system breakdown caused by a hot plug mechanism of the OCP card, and hot plug stability and convenience of the OCP card are improved.
It should be particularly noted that, the steps in the embodiments of the hot plug method for an external device described above may be intersected, replaced, added, or deleted, and therefore, the hot plug method for an external device that is transformed by these reasonable permutations and combinations shall also belong to the scope of the present invention, and shall not limit the scope of the present invention to the described embodiments.
Based on the above object, a second aspect of the embodiments of the present invention provides an embodiment of a hot plug apparatus for an external device, which solves the problems of automatic boot identification and system crash caused by a hot plug mechanism of an OCP card, and improves hot plug stability and convenience of the OCP card.
