Description

Baby carrier
Technical Field
The present invention relates generally to a device for carrying and transporting young children and small children. More particularly, the present invention relates to a baby carrier of the type adapted to be worn by an adult and to support a baby or infant in a variety of carrying positions in front of the wearer and behind the wearer.
Background
Wearable baby carriers enable an infant or young child and a parent to be brought close to each other, whereby the infant or young child may feel the warmth, intimacy and smell of the parent, and the infant or young child will also be "involved" or appear in the parent's duties and get a focus in a completely different way than if the young child were sitting in a baby carriage or the like. Furthermore, the parent does not have to carry an infant or a young child in his/her arm, thereby maintaining freedom of movement of the hand and arm to enable other activities.
US 5,224,637 a relates to a baby carrier adapted to be worn around the waist of an adult for supporting and carrying a baby over the hip area of the wearer. According to a preferred embodiment, such a harness comprises a webbing belt and a unitary webbing seat portion adapted to receive and support a child positioned facing an adult wearer with the legs riding on the waist of the wearer. The unitary seat portion is comprised of a length of seat belt, a fabric loop extending away from and away from the seat belt length at spaced locations, and a pair of spaced apart gussets overlying one another and connecting the seat belt length and the loop portion. A compressible member, such as a polyurethane, foam rubber or air bladder, is disposed in the volume defined by the seat defining member. Due to the unitary harness/seat design, the weight of the child is more widely distributed around the waist and hip area of the wearer, and the product is easier to manufacture than prior art child harnesses of the same type.
EP 2,967,231 a1 relates to a child carrier having a waist belt, an upper torso support, a hammock coupled to the waist belt and the upper torso support, and thigh support straps extending to each side of the hammock. Each thigh support strap has an inward end proximate the hammock and an outward end configured to be selectively coupled to the upper torso support at a plurality of locations. When the thigh support straps are coupled to the upper torso support, the hammock and thigh support straps form a seat to support the child in an ergonomically extended squat position in both inward-facing and outward-facing orientations. The shape of the seat is adjusted according to the position at which the outward ends of the thigh support straps are coupled to the upper torso support.
WO 2017/075500 a1 relates to an adjustable child carrier, wherein the child carrier comprises an adjustable bucket seat that can be adjusted to accommodate children of various sizes. The child carrier includes one or more adjusters that work individually or in concert to adjust the depth and width of the bucket seat area provided by the child carrier. The harness is capable of supporting children of various sizes in an ergonomic position suitable for the size of the child.
WO 2017/200451 a1 relates to a baby seat harness comprising a shoulder strap member, a waist belt member, a chair member connected to the waist belt member, an inner webbing member configured to abut and extend along the torso of a carrying user and connected to the waist belt member and the shoulder strap member, an outer cover member extending in the longitudinal direction of the inner webbing member, the outer cover member having a lower portion which is detachably connected to the inner webbing member such that the outer cover member and the inner webbing member form a suspended pocket seat.

Furthermore, each strap of the upper portion of the baby carrier may include a load cushioning device to absorb and distribute the load or weight experienced by the user on the upper portion of his or her shoulders and back when the baby is carried in the baby carrier. The load cushion can have a length that extends over at least a portion of the carrier tape, wherein the load cushion can include one or more layers of soft material, soft foam, or the like.
In one exemplary embodiment, the carrier strap of the upper portion of the baby carrier may be fixedly attached to the bag assembly. One end of each carrier strip may then be sewn to the bag assembly, while the opposite end of each carrier strip is provided with fastening and adjustment means. However, it is also envisaged that the carrier band may be releasably attached to the bag assembly by fastening means in the form of velcro, zippers, snaps, clips or the like, so that the upper part of the baby carrier may be released from the bag assembly.
The upper part of the baby carrier may further comprise means for interconnecting the two carrier bands of the upper part of the baby carrier, wherein such means may be a band provided with adjustment means, wherein the band may be used to connect the two carrier bands of the upper part of the baby carrier, and the adjustment means may be used to pull the two carrier bands towards each other in order to tighten the baby carrier to the user. This arrangement will also distribute the load or weight experienced by the user when the baby is carried in the baby carrier.
The fastening and adjusting means of the carrier band may be in the form of a clip for fastening and securing the carrier band, wherein the clip for fastening and securing includes protrusions and depressions. Then, each tab of the clip for fastening and securing the carrier band is attached to an end of each of the two carrier bands, and at least two spaced apart tabs of the clip for fastening and securing the carrier band are attached to each of the lower portion and the bag assembly.
However, it is also contemplated that the carrier band may be provided with recesses for the clips used for fastening and securing, while each of the lower portion and the bag assembly is provided with at least two spaced apart projections for the clips used for fastening and securing the carrier band.
In one aspect, the recesses of the clips used to clasp and secure the carrier band may be sewn to the lower portion of the baby carrier and the pouch assembly. Alternatively, the recess may be sewn to the intermediate element, which may then be connected to the lower part and/or the bag assembly in a suitable manner.
In one embodiment, the recess of a clip for fastening and securing a carrier band can include an interior channel having an open end defined by a top surface, an opposing bottom surface, and opposing side walls extending between the top and bottom surfaces.
As will be described in detail below, the male portion of a clip for fastening and securing a carrier band is received and releasably retained within the internal channel of the female portion. In order to enable a user to access and release the male part of the clamp for fastening and securing the harness from the outside of the female part and to help retain the male part within the female part, the female part is provided with two holes. Each hole extends through at least a portion of the top or bottom surface and through the opposing side wall to form a side-release clip.
The tab of the clip for clasping and securing the carrier band may comprise a base having two substantially flexible arm members formed on opposite sides of the base and extending outwardly from one side of the base a predetermined distance.
Each arm member includes a first proximal end connected to the base and an opposite second distal end. To assist in sliding cooperation with the recess and to enable access to the user, the distal end of each male member may include a rounded protrusion on its outer surface. To releasably engage the arm members within the recesses, each arm member preferably includes shoulders formed on the top and bottom surfaces of the arm member.
To releasably connect the male portion to the female portion, the second distal end is inserted within the internal passage. Upon continued insertion, the distal end will bend towards the interior of the channel. Further insertion causes the circular boss to travel along the channel until the circular boss and shoulder clear the channel. At this point, each arm member snaps outwardly relative to the channel, and the shoulder rests against the surface of the hole, and the circular protrusion extends outwardly through the hole.
Further, the boss includes a frame including a pair of spaced apart side walls, an end wall provided with a groove, and a bottom formed by an upper surface of the base including a strap engaging member, wherein the clamping member is transversely and movably mounted to the frame.
In one embodiment, the clamping member may comprise a release actuator in the form of a locking cam and a handle.
In one embodiment according to the invention, in the transition between the seat and the rear portion of the bag assembly, the bag assembly may be provided with a zipper on each side of the bag assembly, which zipper extends towards the longitudinal centre plane of the bag assembly, in order to enable adjustment of the baby carrier to a specific baby arranged on the baby carrier. When the child is placed in the baby carrier facing forward, the zippers on each side of the bag assembly can be opened, which will thus result in a smaller "width" of the bag assembly in the leg/thigh area of the baby, as the baby can place his or her legs in the openings provided by the zippers, whereby the baby cannot "spread" his or her legs too much.
The bag assembly may further comprise an additional head support (head wrap), wherein one side or end of the additional head support may be sewn to the upper part of the rear portion of the bag assembly, and the opposite side or end of the additional head support may be provided with two spaced apart straps having fastening means to connect to complementary fastening means arranged in the seat of the bag assembly. The fastening means may be in the form of snaps, velcro or the like. The additional headrest will be arranged on the inner side of the bag assembly, extending at least over the rear portion of the bag assembly, when the additional headrest is not in use. When, for example, a small baby is arranged in the bag assembly, the strap of the additional head support will be released from the seat of the bag assembly and the additional head support will be lifted to cover the back of the baby's head. The upper part of the baby carrier may then be provided with a plurality of complementary fastening means so that the straps of the additional head support may be connected to the upper part of the baby carrier.
In one embodiment, in the transition between the rear portion and the head portion, the bag assembly may be provided with a weakening line or a crease extending over the entire width of the bag assembly, wherein the weakening line or crease will allow the head portion to be folded relative to the rear portion of the bag assembly. The head of the bag assembly may then be folded down along the lines of weakness or creases, for example when a larger child is placed in the baby carrier facing forwards, allowing the baby carrier to be adapted to the child in this manner.
In one embodiment, the bag assembly may be provided with a zipper extending over at least a portion of the head and back portions of the bag assembly, wherein the zipper is disposed along a longitudinal centerline of the bag assembly. When the zipper is open, each side of the zipper can be folded up to provide the infant with more visibility when placed in a forward facing position. Each side of the zipper may then be provided with fastening means to hold it in the folded-up position.
In one embodiment, the bag assembly may be provided with one or more attachment points on both sides in the transition area between the seat and the rear portion to attach or connect to the upper portion of the baby carrier, whereby the upper portion of the baby carrier is provided with complementary fastening means.
Similarly, the lower part of the baby carrier may also be provided with at least two spaced apart attachment points for the upper part of the baby carrier, whereby the upper part is provided with complementary fastening means.

The upper part 2 of the baby carrier 1 comprises two carrying straps 2A, 2B, wherein one end of each carrying strap 2A, 2B is connected to a male part 6A (see fig. 6) of a known buckle 6 for releasable connection to a female part 6B of a known buckle 6 provided in the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 and/or the bag assembly 4. In fig. 3 it is shown that both the lower part 3 and the bag assembly 4 are provided with two spaced apart recesses 6B with buckles 6, whereby the user U can choose to connect the upper part 2 of the baby carrier 1 to the bag assembly 4 or to the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1.
The person skilled in the art will know that each end of the carrier band 2A, 2B may be connected to a female part 6B of the buckle 6, whereby the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 and/or the bag assembly 4 will be provided with a male part 6A of the buckle 6.
The upper part 2 of the baby carrier 1 may also comprise a strap with an adjustment device, wherein the strap may be used to connect the two carrying straps of the upper part 2, and wherein the adjustment device may be used to "pull" the two carrying straps towards each other in order to tighten the baby carrier 1 to the body of the user U, see also fig. 1C. Since the person skilled in the art knows how such a belt can be arranged and which adjustment means can be used, this will not be described further here.
The bag assembly 4 comprises a seat portion 4A, a rear portion 4B and a head portion 4C, wherein the rear portion 4B of the bag assembly 4 is connected to the upper portion 2 of the baby carrier 1 and the seat portion 4A of the bag assembly 4 is connected to the lower portion 3 of the baby carrier 1.
In one embodiment, the bag assembly 4 may be releasably connected to at least one of the upper and lower portions 2, 3 of the baby carrier 1 such that the bag assembly 4 may be disconnected from the upper and/or lower portions 2, 3 of the baby carrier 1, for example when the bag assembly 4 must be washed or cleaned. The bag assembly 4 may then be attached to the upper and lower parts 2, 3 of the baby carrier 1 by fastening means in the form of velcro, zippers, snaps, clips, etc. or a combination thereof. It is also contemplated that the bag assembly 4 may be fixedly attached or secured to the lower portion 3, such as by stitching, and attached to the upper portion 2 by one or more clips, or the like, or fixedly attached or secured to the upper portion 2 and attached to the lower portion 3 by one or more clips, snaps, or the like.
It is also contemplated that the bag assembly 4 may be fixedly attached or secured to the upper and lower portions 2, 3 of the baby carrier 1 or attached to the upper and lower portions 2, 3 by one or more clips, snaps, or the like.
Furthermore, also referring to fig. 4A to 4B, in the transition between the seat portion 4A and the rear portion 4B of the bag assembly 4, each side of the bag assembly 4 is provided with a zipper 4D. Each zipper 4D extends toward a centerline extending along the longitudinal length of the bag assembly 4, wherein the zippers 4D will form an angle with the centerline. By the arrangement of the zipper 4D, the baby carrier 1 can be adjusted to the size and configuration of the baby B when placed in the baby carrier 1. When the small baby B is arranged facing it in the baby carrier 1 (and the baby carrier 1 is worn on the chest of the user U), the zippers 4D on each side of the bag assembly 4 can be unzipped, as unzipping will result in the bag assembly 4 to have a smaller width in the leg and thigh areas of the baby B, whereby the baby B can arrange the legs in the openings provided when unzipping 4D. Thus, infant B would not have to "stretch" his or her legs as such.
As shown in fig. 3, the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 comprises a safety belt and straps or the like connected to each end of the safety belt, wherein one strap is connected to the male part 7A of the known buckle 7 and the other strap is connected to the female part 7B of the buckle 7. The lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 can be adjusted and fastened to the waist of the user U by means of the protrusions 7A and the recesses 7B of the buckle 7. Furthermore, an inflatable element 5 is connected to the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1.
The harness may be provided with a load cushion device to absorb and distribute the load or weight experienced by the user U on his or her waist when the infant B is carried in the baby carrier 1, wherein the load cushion device extends over a portion of the harness to cover at least a portion of the back and abdomen of the user U.
The load cushion may comprise one or more layers of soft material, soft foam, or the like.
The inflatable element 5 comprises a closed container or receptacle, such as an airbag or the like, wherein the inflatable element 5 is arranged below the seat portion 4A of the bag assembly 4 in order to provide support for an infant seated in the infant carrier 1. When the inflatable element 5 is inflated, as shown in fig. 2B and 2C, the inflatable element 5 will be in contact with the underside of the seat 4A of the bag assembly 4, thereby providing support for the buttocks and thighs of the infant B. This will result in the weight of the baby B also being distributed to the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1, whereby the user U will experience a load distributed between the shoulders and the hips of the user U.
The inflatable element 5 further comprises a valve element (not shown), wherein the valve element may be in the form of a one-way valve or the like, such that the inflatable element 5 will remain inflated when filled with air.
The user U may inflate the inflatable element 5 by using their mouth, or the inflatable element 5 may inflate by using a pump (not shown).
The inflatable element 5 is made of a strong, durable and flexible material.
In order to provide a comfortable and ergonomic support for the infant B, the inflatable element 5 is made with a planar surface, wherein the inflatable element 5 is arranged on the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 such that the planar surface faces the seat 4A of the bag assembly 4.
In this embodiment, the surface of the inflatable element 5 facing the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 is also provided with a planar surface so as to facilitate a proper connection with the underside 3 of the baby carrier 1. In this embodiment, the inflatable element 5 is detachably connected to the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1, so that the inflatable element 5 can be removed from the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 if this is required for some reason. The inflatable element 5 and the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 are then provided with corresponding fastening means (not shown), which may be e.g. snap fasteners, velcro or the like. The skilled person will know how to arrange such a device and will therefore not be described further here.
However, it is also conceivable that the inflatable element 5 is integrated into the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1, whereby in this embodiment the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 will comprise a compartment (not shown) or cavity within the lower part 3, wherein this compartment or cavity will accommodate the inflatable element 5. The lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 will comprise a flexible material at least on the part covering or concealing the inflatable element 5 in order to allow inflating the inflatable element 5 to its shape in order to provide a comfortable and ergonomic support for the baby. The compartment or cavity within the lower part 3 is provided with a zipper (not shown) so that the inflatable element 5 can be removed from the lower part of the baby carrier, for example when the baby carrier should be cleaned and/or washed.
Furthermore, the compartment or cavity in the lower part 3 of the baby carrier 1 may be arranged to be completely closed or opened by a lid when the inflatable element 5 is to be inflated.
The inflatable element 5 has a length corresponding to the width of the seat 4A of the bag assembly 4.
Fig. 5A-5B show that the bag assembly 4 is provided with a zipper 4G, wherein the zipper 4F will extend over at least a portion of the head portion 4C and the back portion 4B of the bag assembly 4, and wherein the zipper 4G is arranged along a centre line S extending over the longitudinal length of the bag assembly 4. When the baby B is placed in the baby carrier 1 with the back facing the user U, as shown in fig. 5A, the zippers 4G can be unzipped to provide the baby B with a clear view, as each corner of the head 4C can then be folded back to the side of the bag assembly 4.
In the transition between the rear portion 4B and the head portion 4C, the bag assembly 4 is provided with a weakening line 4F or fold extending over the entire width of the bag assembly 4, allowing the head portion 4C to be folded down towards the rear portion 4B. This may be done while the baby B is placed in the baby carrier 4 facing the user U, with the baby carrier 4 being worn on the chest or back of the user U, as shown in fig. 5B, allowing the user U to adjust the bag assembly 4 to the baby's size.
Fig. 6 shows how an additional head support 4E for a neonate B arranged on the interior of the bag assembly 4 may be used to provide support for the head of the baby B, wherein one end of the additional head support 4E is sewn to the interior of the bag assembly 4, while the opposite end of the additional head support 4E is provided with a strap with fastening means arranged on each side/edge of the additional head support. When the additional head support 4E is not used, the additional head support 4E is fastened to the interior of the bag assembly 4 by complementary fastening means arranged inside the bag assembly 4. The fastening means on the inside of the strap and bag assembly 4 may be snaps, velcro, etc. When the neonate is seated in the bag assembly 4 facing the user U, the side of the additional head support 4E provided with the fastening means will be released from the bag assembly 4 and the additional head support 4E will be pulled out from the interior of the bag assembly 4 to cover the back of the head of the neonate. The strap with the fastening means is then connected to complementary fastening means provided on the upper part 2 of the baby carrier 1. With the above arrangement, the additional head support 4E will provide "tighter" support for the infant's head than the head 4C, whereby the head 4C of the bag assembly 4 can be folded, as shown in FIG. 6, to provide a clear view for the infant.
The invention has now been described with respect to several embodiments according to the invention. However, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various changes and modifications may be made to the baby carrier as described within the scope of the present invention as defined in the appended claims.
