Description

Server UID indicator lamp control device and control method
Technical Field
The invention relates to the technical field of servers, in particular to a device and a method for controlling a server UID indicator Light (Unit Identification Light).
Background
With the development of high-performance computer technology, the number of components of a server is increasing, and fault monitoring and diagnosis of the server components are more and more urgent, and a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) of the server is responsible for monitoring the state of each component of the server. Currently, there are two general ways to drive the UID Identification Light (Unit Identification Light) in the motherboard design:
firstly, the state of the UID indicating lamp is changed through an external button, in this way, the action state of an external physical button is obtained through a Complex Programming Logic Device (CPLD), and then the state of the UID indicating lamp is reversed.
Secondly, a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) controls the states of the UID indicator lamps, and the modes mainly comprise two driving modes:
(1) a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) issues an instruction through serial communication (IIC/SGPIO), and a CPLD analyzes a corresponding serial data stream so as to control the state of a UID indicator light;
(2) the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) controls the status of the UID indicator light through a single I/O, as shown in fig. 1, the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) drives the UID indicator light using two signal sources. One is to adopt the level state as the signal source which drives the UID pilot lamp, when BMC sends out high level H, CPLD turns on the UID pilot lamp, when BMC sends out low level L, CPLD turns off the UID pilot lamp; after the BMC sends out a high level to turn on the UID indicator lamp, if the BMC is restarted or has other faults due to some reasons, the level of the I/O is pulled down, so that the UID indicator lamp is turned off, and the UID indicator lamp marked by the BMC cannot continue to indicate so as to cause that a client cannot quickly identify. And the other is to adopt the I/O edge state as a signal source for driving the UID indicator lamp, turn on the UID indicator lamp by the CPLD after the I/O rising edge is sent out by the BMC, and turn off the UID indicator lamp by the CPLD after the I/O falling edge is sent out by the BMC. If the BMC is restarted or has other faults due to some reasons, the level of the I/O is pulled low at the moment, so that an I/O falling edge occurs, the CPLD detects the situation at the moment, the UID indicator lamp is turned off, the UID indicator lamp marked by the BMC cannot continue to indicate, and a client cannot quickly identify the UID.
As can be seen from the above, in the conventional method (2), there is a problem that the UID indicator lamp cannot be continuously kept in the lit state when the BMC is restarted or has another fault, and thus the device previously marked cannot be quickly identified due to the extinction of the UID indicator lamp, which is likely to cause confusion.
Therefore, it is necessary to provide a control device and a control method capable of keeping the status of the UID indicating lamp unchanged during the BMC restart or other faults, so as to solve the above problems.
Disclosure of Invention

Preferably, when the potential of the first input/output port is pulled high, a high level is output after a preset time period to control the indicator light to be turned on, and when the potential of the first input/output port is pulled low, a low level is output after the preset time period to control the indicator light to be turned off.
Preferably, the complex programmable logic device is further connected to an external button, and when detecting the signal source, the complex programmable logic device determines that the signal source is a trigger signal of the external button or a control signal of the baseboard management controller; and when the control signal is the control signal of the substrate management controller, further judging whether the auxiliary signal output by the first auxiliary input/output port is effective.
Preferably, the high level of the first auxiliary input/output port is an active signal of the auxiliary signal, and the potential of the first auxiliary input/output port changes from the high level to the low level and is an inactive signal of the auxiliary signal.

Compared with the prior art, the server UID indicator lamp control device increases a port with a pull-up or pull-down potential of a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) as a first auxiliary input/output port, and the first auxiliary input/output port is connected to the Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD), and the CPLD bases the level of the first auxiliary input-output port on logic control, specifically, on the premise that the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary input/output port is a valid signal, if the CPLD detects the potential change of the first input/output port of the BMC, the indicator lamp is controlled to be turned on or off after the preset time length, when the CPLD detects that the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary input/output port is an invalid signal, the state of the indicator light is latched and is not released until the next BMC restart. Namely, the CPLD takes the level of the first auxiliary input/output port of the BMC as the premise of logic control and performs hysteresis processing on the edge signal of the first input/output port of the BMC, so that the problem that the indicator lamp is accidentally turned off due to restarting of the BMC or other faults is solved, the state of the indicator lamp is controlled and maintained, and quick identification is guaranteed; and no extra PIN is needed to be added, and the serial communication of the BMC and the CPLD is not needed to be repeatedly developed, so that the development time of the BMC and the CPLD is shortened, and the performance of the product is improved.
Correspondingly, the invention also provides a server UID indicator lamp control method, which is suitable for an UID indicator lamp control mode with a substrate management controller and a complex programmable logic device, wherein the complex programmable logic device is respectively connected with an indicator lamp and a first input/output port of the substrate management controller, and a port with a pull-up or pull-down potential of the substrate management controller is used as a first auxiliary input/output port and is connected to the complex programmable logic device, and the control method comprises the following steps:

when the potential of the first input/output port is pulled down, a low level is output after a preset time length to control the indicator light to be turned off.
Preferably, before the detecting the auxiliary signal output by the first auxiliary input/output port and determining whether the auxiliary signal is a valid signal, the method further comprises:

Preferably, the high level of the first auxiliary input/output port is an active signal of the auxiliary signal, and the potential of the first auxiliary input/output port changes from the high level to the low level and is an inactive signal of the auxiliary signal.

According to the control method, the level of the first auxiliary input/output port of the BMC is used as the premise of logic control, and the edge signal of the first input/output port is subjected to hysteresis processing, so that the problem that an indicator lamp is accidentally extinguished due to restarting or other faults of a substrate management controller is solved, the state of the indicator lamp is controlled and maintained, and quick identification is guaranteed; and no extra PIN is needed to be added, and the serial communication of the BMC and the CPLD is not needed to be repeatedly developed, so that the development time of the BMC and the CPLD is shortened, and the performance of the product is improved.

Detailed Description
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings, wherein like element numerals represent like elements. The server UID indicator lamp control device and method provided by the invention are applicable to a mode of controlling the state of a UID indicator lamp (UID) through a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), of course, the UID indicator lamp can be controlled only through the BMC, and the UID indicator lamp can be controlled jointly or independently through other modes. The following describes in detail the specific structure, logic control principle and control method of the server UID indicator lamp control device according to the present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Referring to fig. 2 to 3, in an embodiment of the device for controlling a server UID indicator lamp according to the present invention, the device includes a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) and a Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD). Wherein the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) has a first input/output port outputting a CONTROL signal UID _ CONTROL, i.e., a first I/O port of the BMC shown in fig. 2; in addition, the present invention also adds a port having a pull-up or pull-down potential of the BMC to a first auxiliary input/output port, that is, a first auxiliary I/O port of the BMC shown in fig. 2, which is not required to be specially defined, and which may be any one of I/O ports of the BMC having a pull-up or pull-down potential, and the first auxiliary I/O port is connected to the CPLD, and an auxiliary signal AUX _ IO output by the first auxiliary I/O port is used as a basis for logic control (described in detail later).
Correspondingly, the CPLD has a second input-output port, a third input-output port, and a second auxiliary input-output port. The second input/output port is a second I/O port of the CPLD shown in fig. 2, and the second input/output port (the second I/O port) is connected to the first input/output port (the first I/O port) of the BMC, and is configured to receive a CONTROL signal UID _ CONTROL sent by the BMC; a second auxiliary input/output port, namely a second auxiliary I/O port of the CPLD shown in fig. 2, the second auxiliary I/O port is connected to the first auxiliary I/O port, and the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port are both grounded, the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port are further connected with an external resistor, and the second auxiliary I/O port is used for receiving an auxiliary signal AUX _ IO output by the BMC; the third input/output port is the third I/O port of the CPLD shown in fig. 2, and is connected to the indicator LED1, and the third input/output port is used for outputting a driving signal UID _ LED _ DRIVE to control the state of the indicator LED 1.
In addition, the BMC further has a register for storing status information of the indicator light LED1, and the CPLD monitors the status of the indicator light LED1 and sends update information to the BMC when the status of the indicator light LED1 changes, so that the register in the BMC updates the status information of the indicator light LED1 synchronously, so as to monitor the status change of the indicator light LED1 through the BMC, which is a conventional manner in the art.
With continued reference to fig. 2, in a more preferred embodiment of the server UID indicator light control apparatus of the present invention, the CPLD is also connected to an external button, so that, in addition to controlling the state of the indicator light LED1 through the BMC, the state control of the indicator light LED1 can of course be realized through the external button. The logic control between the BMC and the external button will be described in detail later.
As shown in fig. 1 to 4, compared with the conventional control device, the server UID indicator light control device according to the present invention structurally further introduces an I/O port with a pull-up or pull-down potential of the BMC as a first auxiliary I/O port, and mainly solves the problem of accidental turn-off of the indicator light LED1 caused by BMC restart or other faults by performing logic processing of a CPLD/FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and performing hysteresis processing on edge change of the BMC control PIN. Therefore, the server UID indicator lamp control device does not need to add extra PIN or repeatedly develop serial communication of BMC and CPLD, only supplements the existing single I/O control scheme, can realize control and maintenance of the indicator lamp LED1, and reduces development time of BMC and CPLD.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the ONCTL pin of the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) is used as the first auxiliary I/O port, but not limited thereto.
The following describes a specific logic control method of the server UID indicating lamp control device according to the present invention with reference to fig. 2 to 4. In this embodiment, since the BMC and the external button are provided at the same time, when the CPLD is logically set, the operation priority of the external button and the operation priority of the BMC are set to the same level, that is, which of the external button or the BMC is operated first, the state of the indicator light LED1 changes according to which instruction. Specifically, when the external button is operated, the CPLD detects that the signal source is a trigger signal of the external button, and at this time, the indicator light LED1 is directly controlled to perform state reversal, and if the CPLD detects that the signal source is a control signal sent by the BMC, the following logic control is performed:
the CPLD detects auxiliary signals AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port, and the auxiliary signals AUX _ IO are used as the basis of logic control. Specifically, when the CPLD detects the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO, it first determines whether the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO is an active signal or an inactive signal, in an embodiment of the present invention, the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO is a level signal of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port, and specifically, a high level of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port is used as an active signal, and when a restart or other failure occurs in the BMC, a level of the first auxiliary I/O port is pulled down from a high level to a fixed low level, so in this embodiment, the low level of the first auxiliary I/O port is set as an inactive signal, and a state of the low level is determined by a pull-down resistor configured outside the BMC, and a specific setting of the pull-down resistor is a conventional setting manner in the art, and will not be described in detail.
In another embodiment of the present invention, it is needless to say that the low levels of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port may be set as the active signal of the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO, and the high levels of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port may be set as the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO accordingly.
Furthermore, on the premise that the auxiliary signals AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port are valid signals, the CPLD further detects CONTROL signals UID _ CONTROL of the first input/output port (the first I/O port) and the second input/output port (the second I/O port), and generates corresponding driving signals UID _ LED _ DRIVE according to the CONTROL signals UID _ CONTROL to CONTROL the state of the indicator light LED 1. In this embodiment, the CONTROL signal UID _ CONTROL is a level signal of a first input/output port (first I/O port) of the BMC and a second input/output port (second I/O port) of the CPLD, and the driving signal UID _ LED _ DRIVE is a level signal of a third input/output port (third I/O port) of the CPLD.
More specifically, the CPLD detects and determines whether the potentials of the first I/O port and the second I/O port are pulled high or low, and performs hysteresis processing on the rising edge and the falling edge of the first I/O port and the second I/O port. Specifically, when the potentials of the first I/O port and the second I/O port are pulled high, a high level is output after a preset time period to control the indicator light LED1 to turn on, that is, a high level is output through the third I/O port to control the indicator light LED1 to turn on; correspondingly, when the potentials of the first I/O port and the second I/O port are pulled low, a low level is output after a preset time period to control the indicator LED1 to turn off, i.e., a low level is output through the third I/O port to control the indicator LED1 to turn off. Meanwhile, the CPLD monitors the status of the indicator light LED1 and sends the status change to the BMC for storage.
On the contrary, when the CPLD detects that the auxiliary signals AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port are invalid signals, that is, when the levels of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port change from a high level to a fixed low level, the state of the indicator light LED1 is latched, and the state of the indicator light LED1 is sent to the BMC for storage. In this state, the latched status of the indicator LED1 is not released until the BMC is restarted, thereby saving the status of the previously-marked indicator LED1 and avoiding the occurrence of the indicator LED1 going out due to the BMC restart or other faults.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the preset time period is set to 15ms, but is not limited thereto, and the preset time period can be flexibly set according to needs.
In other embodiments of the server UID indicator light control device according to the present invention, no external button may be provided, and in such embodiments, the state of the indicator light LED1 is controlled only by the level signals of the first auxiliary I/O port and the first I/O port of the BMC, and as described above, the description will not be repeated.
Next, a specific logic control method and process of the server UID indicating lamp control device according to the present invention will be described with reference to fig. 2 to 4.
As shown in fig. 3, the logic timing diagram for the control of the indicator LED1 under normal BMC conditions is shown. Specifically, referring to fig. 2, when the BMC is started, the level of the first auxiliary I/O port of the BMC is rapidly raised to a high level, and when the CPLD detects that the levels of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port are high levels, that is, when the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO shown in fig. 3 is a high level, it is determined that the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port is an active signal; meanwhile, the potential change of the first I/O port of the BMC is used as the CONTROL signal UID _ CONTROL, and a corresponding driving signal UID _ LED _ DRIVE is output according to the CONTROL signal UID _ CONTROL to CONTROL the indicator light LED1 to perform state change. Specifically, when the potential of the first I/O port of the BMC is pulled high to issue a rising edge, after the CPLD catches the rising edge, the CPLD outputs a high level through its third I/O port after a preset time period, that is, issues a driving signal UID _ LED _ DRIVE to control the indicator light LED1 to turn on, for example, the high level is output through the third I/O port after a delay of 15ms after catching the rising edge, as shown in fig. 3. Under the condition that the BMC keeps normal operation, the levels of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port are kept unchanged, in this process, when the potential of the first I/O port of the BMC is pulled low and a falling edge is sent out, after the CPLD catches the falling edge, the CPLD outputs a low level through the third I/O port thereof after a preset time, for example, the CPLD delays for 15ms after catching the falling edge and outputs a low level through the third I/O port, as shown in fig. 3, that is, a driving signal UID _ LED _ DRIVE is sent out to control the indicator light LED1 to be turned off. In the above process, the CPLD detects the on or off state of the indicator light LED1, and sends a corresponding state change to the BMC for storage.
Referring to fig. 4, a logic timing diagram for controlling the indicator light LED1 in the event of a restart or other fault with the BMC is shown. Referring to fig. 2 and 4, when the BMC is started, the state control of the indicator LED1 is the same as that shown in fig. 3, specifically, the level of the first auxiliary I/O port is rapidly raised to a high level, when the CPLD detects that the levels of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port are high levels, that is, the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO shown in fig. 3 is an active signal, and at the same time, the potential of the first I/O port of the BMC is pulled up to send a rising edge, and after the CPLD catches the rising edge, the CPLD outputs a high level through the third I/O port thereof after a preset time period, that is, sends the driving signal UID _ LED _ DRIVE to control the indicator LED1 to turn on, for example, the high level is output through the third I/O port after a delay of 15ms after catching the rising edge.
If the BMC is restarted or has other faults, the potential of the first auxiliary I/O port is pulled down to a fixed low level from a high level by a pull-down resistor arranged outside, specifically, as shown in fig. 4, when the CPLD detects the low level of the first auxiliary I/O port, it is determined that the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO is invalid, the state of the indicator light LED1 is immediately latched, and the state of the indicator light LED1 is sent to the BMC for storage, and the state of the indicator light LED1 is not released until the next BMC restart. Therefore, when the BMC is restarted or has other faults, the state of the indicator light LED1 cannot be triggered by mistake, the indicator light LED1 is always in the lighted state, the fact that the previous indication can be continued through the indicator light LED1 marked by the BMC is guaranteed, and a user can quickly identify a corresponding machine.
In summary, according to the server UID indicator light control device of the present invention, a port of the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) having a pull-up or pull-down potential is added as a first auxiliary I/O port, the first auxiliary I/O port is connected to the Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD), and the CPLD sets the level of the first auxiliary I/O port as a basis of logic control through logic setting, specifically, on the premise that the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary I/O port is an active signal, if the CPLD detects that the potential of the first I/O port of the BMC is pulled up or pulled down, the indicator light LED1 is controlled to be turned on or off after a preset time period, and when the CPLD detects that the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary I/O port is an inactive signal, the status of the indicator light LED1 is latched, the status of the indicator light LED1 is not released until the next BMC restart. Namely, the CPLD uses the level of the first auxiliary I/O port as a premise of logic control and performs hysteresis processing on the edge signal of the first I/O port of the BMC, so that the problem that the indicator light LED1 is accidentally turned off due to BMC restart or other faults is solved, the control and maintenance of the state of the indicator light LED1 are realized, and rapid identification is guaranteed; and no extra PIN is needed to be added, and the serial communication of the BMC and the CPLD is not needed to be repeatedly developed, so that the development time of the BMC and the CPLD is shortened, and the performance of the product is improved.
Reference is now made to fig. 5, which is a logic flow diagram of a server UID indicator light control method of the present invention. The control method is suitable for a server UID indicator lamp control mode with a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), and is particularly suitable for the server UID indicator lamp control device, so that the structural part of the server UID indicator lamp control device is not described repeatedly.
With reference to fig. 2 and 5, the server UID indicator light control method of the present invention specifically includes the following steps:
step S01: the CPLD detects and judges that the signal source is a trigger signal of an external button or a control signal of the BMC; if the trigger signal is the trigger signal of the external button, the step S02 is performed, and if the trigger signal is the control signal of the BMC, the step S03 is performed;
step S02: controlling the indicator light to reverse state;
step S03: judging whether an auxiliary signal AUX _ IO of a first auxiliary I/O port of the BMC is valid, if the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary I/O port is valid, performing step S04, and if the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO of the first auxiliary I/O port is invalid, performing step S07;
step S04: the CPLD detects the potential of a first I/O port of the BMC and judges the change condition of the potential;
step S05: when the potential of the first I/O port is pulled high, the indicator light is controlled to be turned on after a preset time period, and the step S01 is returned to; for example, in one embodiment, when the potential of the first I/O port is pulled high, the CPLD outputs a high level after a delay of 15ms after catching a rising edge to control the indicator light to turn on;
step S06: when the potential of the first I/O port is pulled low, the indicator light is controlled to be turned off after a preset time period, and the step S01 is returned to; for example, in one embodiment, when the potential of the first I/O port is pulled low, the CPLD outputs a low level after a delay of 15ms after catching the falling edge to control the indicator light to turn on and off;
step S07: latching the state of the indicator light, and returning to step S01; that is to say, the state of the latched indicator light is released after the BMC is started and restarted next time, so that when the BMC is restarted or has other faults, the state of the indicator light is not triggered by mistake, the indicator light is always in the lighted state, and the indicator light marked by the BMC is ensured to continue to indicate before, so that the corresponding machine can be identified quickly.
In the server UID indicator light control method of the present invention, the foregoing steps S01-S02 are omitted, and for example, in an embodiment where no external button is provided, the implementation of the above step S03 is directly started.
Referring to fig. 2 again, in a further embodiment of the method for controlling a server UID indicator light according to the present invention, the high levels of the first auxiliary I/O port of the BMC and the second auxiliary I/O port of the CPLD are used as valid signals of the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO, and when the BMC is restarted or has other faults, the level of the first auxiliary I/O port of the BMC is pulled down to a fixed low level from the high level, and the fixed low level is used as an invalid signal of the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO. In other embodiments, of course, the low level of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port may be set as the active signal of the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO, and accordingly, the high level of the first auxiliary I/O port and the second auxiliary I/O port may be set as the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO.
As shown in fig. 5 and fig. 2, according to the method for controlling the server UID indicator light of the present invention, the level of the first auxiliary I/O port of the BMC is detected and used as a basis for logic control, specifically, whether the level of the first auxiliary I/O port (i.e., the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO) is an effective signal is detected and determined, if the level of the first auxiliary I/O port is an effective signal, the CPLD further detects the potential of the first I/O port of the BMC (i.e., the second I/O port of the CPLD), and controls the indicator light to be turned on or off after a preset duration according to the change of the potential; on the contrary, if the level of the first auxiliary I/O port (i.e., the auxiliary signal AUX _ IO) is an invalid signal, the status of the indicator lamp is latched. In the control method, the level of the first auxiliary I/O port of the BMC is used as the premise of logic control, and the edge signal of the first I/O port of the BMC is subjected to hysteresis processing, so that the problem that an indicator lamp is accidentally extinguished due to restarting of the BMC or other faults is solved, the state of the indicator lamp is controlled and maintained, and quick identification is guaranteed; and no extra PIN is needed to be added, and the serial communication of the BMC and the CPLD is not needed to be repeatedly developed, so that the development time of the BMC and the CPLD is shortened, and the performance of the product is improved.
The structures, the arrangement modes and the like of other parts of the server UID indicator light control device related by the invention are well known to those skilled in the art, and detailed description is not provided herein.
The above disclosure is only for the purpose of illustrating the preferred embodiments of the present invention and is not to be construed as limiting the scope of the present invention, therefore, the present invention is not limited by the appended claims.
