Abstract

Device for packaging and dispensing a product with improved sealing between two containers
The present invention relates to the general field of containers for packaging and dispensing liquid or semi-liquid products, such as cosmetic products (such as hair products), and more particularly to hair care products, such as hair care essences, hair dyes, hair oils, hair creams, or to products for cleansing, such as body washes, or to skin care products, such as body milks or creams, cleansing products, or to any product for hair care or skin care.
An advantageous application of the invention is the use of the device for packaging cosmetic products, such as cosmetic products for dyeing human keratin fibres. Other advantageous applications of the invention may be the use of containers for storing care products, adhesive products, polymer paints, flavourings liquids, etc.
The expression "cosmetic product" is understood to mean a product as defined in article 2 of regulation No. 1223/2009 of the european parliament and council of europe, 11 and 30 months 2009.
More particularly, the present invention relates to a packaging and dispensing device having an upper container mounted on a lower container having a neck.
Typically, the upper container comprises a sealing lip in radial contact with the end of the neck of the lower container.

The lower container has a neck that allows access to the product chamber. The dispensing member includes a dispensing conduit in fluid communication with a product cavity, an assembly skirt radially surrounding the dispensing conduit, and an annular sealing lip radially disposed between the dispensing conduit and the assembly skirt.
The annular sealing lip is configured to radially abut a sealing portion of a neck of a container.

In an embodiment, the device further comprises a temporary closure member configured to close the open end of the second container before the first use and comprising a cylindrical skirt surrounding said open end and a plug connected to said cylindrical skirt, said cylindrical skirt being provided on its cylindrical inner surface with an internal thread cooperating with an external thread provided on the upper container and being provided on its cylindrical outer surface with first anti-rotation means cooperating with second anti-rotation means provided on the lower container for preventing rotation between the closure member and the lower container. The second sealing lip improves the air tightness of the upper container.

Fig. 1 to 11 show an example of a device for individually packaging two products and dispensing a mixture M of these two products at first use, which device is designated by the general reference numeral 10.
The device 10 may be used for packaging two cosmetic products a and B, for example two liquid or semi-liquid cosmetic products, or a liquid product and a powder. The dispensing conduit 24 is surrounded by an assembly skirt 30, which is provided on its radially inner surface with an annular rim 30a, which cooperates, by means of a snap-fit attachment, with the annular groove 18b of the lower container 12, so that the upper container 14 is axially retained with respect to the lower container 12, while allowing rotational movement of one with respect to the other.
The upper container 14 has an annular sealing lip 32 extending substantially along the longitudinal axis X-X' downwards into the annular channel 14a formed between the dispensing duct 24 and the assembly skirt 30. Sealing lip 32 is annular and bears tightly against the radially inner surface of portion 18c of neck 18, which is annular, so as to provide a seal between lower container 12 and upper container 14.
Advantageously, the annular sealing lip 32 of the upper container 14 is configured to elastically deform in a radial direction against the sealing portion 18c of the neck 18 when the dispensing duct 24 of the upper container 14 is inserted in the neck 18 of the lower container 12.
In particular, the sealing portion 18c of the neck 18 comprises a chamfer extending inwards in a radial direction from the upper portion 18d of the neck, which contributes to the elastic deformation of the annular sealing lip 32 of the upper container 14 when it is assembled on the lower container 12.
Advantageously, the inner diameter of the upper portion 18d of the neck 18 of the lower container 12 is greater than the outer diameter of the annular sealing lip 32 of the upper container 14. Thus, the open end of the neck 18 of the lower container 12 and the annular sealing lip 32 are less likely to be damaged by contact with each other when the upper container 14 is assembled on the lower container 12.
The sealing portion 18c is located axially away from the open end of the neck 18 and, therefore, is not subject to degradation when the lower container is carried by its neck and/or when the upper container 14 is assembled on the lower container 12.
The sealing portion 18C has a C-shaped cross-section, which allows said sealing portion 18C to be elastically deformed when the dispensing duct 24 of the upper container 14 is inserted into the neck 18 of the lower container 12. The upper portion 18d of the neck 18 is configured to guide the upper container 14 until the assembly skirt 30 of the dispensing tube 24 mates with the lower container 12 by a snap-fit attachment.
As shown, the upper container 14 further includes an application member 40 mounted on the distribution pipe 24 and including a cover 42 mounted on an upper end of the distribution pipe 24 and a plurality of application teeth 44 extending outwardly from the cover 42.
The cover 42 includes an opening 42a for dispensing the closure 26.
By way of non-limiting example, the application member 40 comprises four rows 44a, 44b, 44c, 44d of application teeth 44, each row of application teeth being inclined towards the flow path of the product to be dispensed.
Alternatively, the application member 40 may include only two rows of application teeth 44 or more than four rows of application teeth.
All of the teeth 44 are inclined towards the central longitudinal axis X-X' of the device 10.
Each tooth 44 has a base section connected to the cover 42 and a free end opposite the base section.
Each tooth 44 is resiliently deformable and is able to flex about its junction with its base section and the cover 42.
In other words, the teeth are thus able to deform under slight inducement applied by the user, for example by the dispensing closure 26, or during application on an application surface (such as hair and/or scalp), due to the materials used and/or their dimensions, and return to their original position when no inducement is applied on the teeth.
As illustrated in fig. 1-3, during shipping and prior to first use, the dispensing orifice 24b of the upper container 14 is closed by the dispensing closure 26 located between the applicator teeth 44. The closure member 50 includes a cylindrical skirt 52 and a plug 54 connected to the skirt 52. A cylindrical skirt 52 extends radially between the neck 18 of the lower container 12 and the lower end 28 of the dispensing conduit 24 of the upper container 14.
The cylindrical skirt 52 is provided on its cylindrical inner surface with internal threads 42a which cooperate with the external threads 28a of the distribution pipe 24.
The cylindrical skirt 52 is further provided on its cylindrical outer surface with outer longitudinal ribs 52b regularly spaced over the entire circumference of the cylindrical skirt 52. The outer longitudinal rib 52b cooperates with an inner longitudinal rib 18e provided on the inner circumferential surface of the neck portion 18 such that the closure member 50 is prevented from rotating relative to the lower container 12.
As shown and in the non-limiting example, the outer longitudinal rib 52b extends axially beyond the upper surface of the cylindrical skirt 52.
In the illustrated example, the plug 54 has an outer diameter that is greater than the outer diameter of the open end 28 of the dispensing conduit 24.
The cylindrical skirt 52 and the lower container 12 may be provided with anti-rotation means shaped differently from the longitudinal ribs. Generally, the cylindrical skirt 52 and the lower container 12 are provided with anti-rotation means for preventing the closure member 50 from rotating relative to the lower container 12.
The upper surface of the plug 54 comprises a first annular sealing lip 54a extending axially towards the upper container 14 and having an outer diameter substantially equal to the inner diameter of the lower open end 28 of the dispensing duct 24, so as to be inserted into said dispensing duct 24 and close it in a sealed manner.
The upper surface of the plug 54 includes a second sealing lip 54b that extends axially in an annular groove 28b provided at the end of the lower open end 28.
The second sealing lip 54b may be annular.
The addition of a second sealing lip improves the gas tightness of the upper container 14.
As shown, the axial length of the second seal lip 54b is less than the axial length of the first seal lip 54 a.
The plug 54 is connected to the cylindrical skirt 52 by a bridge 54c of hinge-forming material and by a connector or coupling 54d of frangible material. In the embodiment shown in the drawings, there are seven connections 54d of frangible material regularly spaced around the circumference of the plug 54. A number of frangible connections 54d other than seven may be provided. For example, the plug 54 is connected to the cylindrical skirt 52 by a bridge 54c of hinge-forming material and by at least one frangible connection 54 d.
As shown, the plug 54 includes a plurality of axially projecting strips or blocks 54e disposed on a lower surface of the plug 54 opposite an upper surface of the plug 54 having annular sealing lips 54a, 54 b. The axially protruding pieces 54e are circumferentially provided on the lower surface of the plug 54 and are regularly spaced from each other.
As shown in fig. 9, there are four blocks 44 e. However, the number of blocks 54e is not limited to four, and may be, for example, equal to one, two, or three or higher than four.
The block 54e is disposed on a diameter of the plug 54 that is substantially equal to the diameter of the dispensing conduit 24 such that the block 54e avoids blocking the open lower end 28 of the dispensing conduit 24 when the closure member 50 is dropped into the lower container 12.
Closure members without axially projecting blocks 54e and/or without frangible connections 54d and bridges 54c may also be provided.
In a non-limiting example, the first rotational direction may be a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.
The device 10 is assembled as follows.
The upper container 14 is filled with the second product B and the closure member 50 is screwed onto the dispensing duct 24 until the plug 54 axially abuts the open end 28 of said dispensing duct 24.
The upper container 14 is fitted, by a simple translational movement along the longitudinal axis X-X', onto the lower container 12 which has been previously filled with the first product a until the assembly skirt 30 of the upper container 14 is snap-fastened onto the neck 18 of the lower container 12.
To place the interior volume 24a of the upper container 14 in flow communication with the interior volume 22 of the lower container 12 when the device 10 is first used, a user rotates the upper container 14 relative to the lower container 12 in a first rotational direction F1 (shown in fig. 10), causing the closure member 50 to translate downwardly along the longitudinal axis X-X' as compared to the lower container 12 until falling into the interior volume 22 of the lower container 12.
As illustrated in fig. 10 and in a non-limiting example, the first rotational direction F1 is a counterclockwise direction. The first rotational direction may also be clockwise.
In this embodiment, once the closure member 50 is in the internal volume 22 of the lower container 12, it acts as an agitation member for the mixture M comprising the first product a and the second product B by the twisting and shaking movement of the device 10.
The user then breaks the frangible dispensing closure 26 in order to use the device 10 and dispense the resulting mixture M contained in the lower container 12 through the dispensing conduit 24 and dispensing orifice 24 b.
The lower container 12 may be processed by an injection blow molding process. The lower container 12 is made of, for example, a polymer material, such as a thermoplastic material. The lower container 12 is, for example, injection molded onto a preform core consisting of a container neck to which a thick tube of polymeric material is attached. The preform core has longitudinal outer ribs which, when compressed air is filled into the preform to expand the thick tube into the bottle shape of the lower container, will form anti-rotation longitudinal ribs 18e provided on the inner circumferential surface of the neck 18.
Thus, the longitudinal anti-rotation ribs 18e are directly manufactured during the injection blow molding process of the lower container 12.
When a user rotates the upper container in a second rotational direction F2 (shown in fig. 12), the closure member 50 translates upward until the frangible connection 54c is broken by a force, causing the plug 54 to pivot about the bridge 54B of hinge-forming material and the second product B to flow toward the interior cavity 22 of the lower container 12.
As illustrated in fig. 12 and in a non-limiting example, the second rotational direction F2 is a clockwise direction. The second rotational direction F2 may also be counterclockwise as viewed in fig. 10.
The user may further rotate the upper container 14 in a rotational direction opposite the second rotational direction F2 to translate the closure member 50 downward until falling into the interior cavity 22 of the lower container 12. (not shown in the drawings)
In this embodiment, the user may open the dispensing conduit 24 by rotating the upper container 14 in both rotational directions.
When the device 10 is in use, with the closure member 50 in front of the open lower end 28 of the dispensing conduit 24, said closure member 50 will abut against said lower end 28 by means of its block 54e, thus allowing the mixture M contained in the lower container 12 to flow between the blocks 54e in the upper container 14 when said device 10 is turned upside down.
The embodiment shown in fig. 13, in which like elements have like reference numerals, differs from the embodiment of fig. 1 to 12 only in the shape of the dispensing closure.
As illustrated in fig. 13, the dispensing closure 60 is configured to close the dispensing orifice 24b and includes an operating element 62 having a grip 62a and a body 62b extending from the grip 62 a. As illustrated, the body 62b is tubular and is provided with a sealing annular flange 62c at the end opposite the grip 62 a.
The dispensing closure 60 further comprises a closure member 64 adapted to close the dispensing orifice 24b of the upper container 14. The closure member 64 is tubular.
As illustrated in fig. 13, the closure member 64 comprises a fastening element 64a designed to cooperate with a complementary fastening element provided on the inner surface of the dispensing orifice 24 b. The fastening element 64a is here a quarter turn. Alternatively, any other fastening element may be used to temporarily secure the dispensing closure 60 in the dispensing orifice 24b, such as threads, a clamping mechanism, or the like.
The closure member 64 further comprises a through hole 66 located in the vicinity of its free end, opposite the operating element 62.
The dispensing closure 60, in particular the through hole 66, serves as a collecting or sampling member for collecting or extracting a portion of the product contained in the upper container 14 or the mixture M contained in the lower container 12. The user can then test the extracted portion before using the entire product.
Thus, there is no need to add a different collecting member or to test the product with a cotton swab before the first use.
The embodiment shown in figure 14 (in which like elements have like reference numerals) differs from the embodiment of figure 13 only in the shape of the sampling member of the dispensing closure.
As illustrated in fig. 14, the dispensing closure 70 includes an operating element 72 having a grip 72a and a body 72b extending from the grip 72 a. As illustrated, the body 72b is tubular and is provided with a sealing annular flange 72c at an end opposite the grip 72 a.
The dispensing closure 70 further comprises a closure member 74 adapted to close the dispensing orifice 24b of the upper container 14. The closure member 74 is tubular.
As illustrated in fig. 14, the closure member 74 comprises a fastening element 74a designed to cooperate with a complementary fastening element provided on the inner surface of the dispensing orifice 24 b. The fastening element 74a is here a quarter turn thread. Alternatively, any other fastening element may be used to temporarily secure dispensing closure 70 in dispensing orifice 24 b.
The closure member 74 further comprises, at its free end, opposite the manoeuvring element 72, a collecting or sampling member 76 comprising a plurality of axial grooves 76a, for example regularly spaced in the circumferential direction.
The dispensing closure 70, in particular the groove 76a, allows to collect or extract a portion of the product contained in the upper container 14 or the mixture M contained in the lower container 12. The user can then test the extracted portion before using the entire product.
Thus, there is no need to add a different sampling member or to test the product with a cotton swab before the first use.
The embodiment shown in figure 15, in which like elements have like reference numerals, differs from the embodiment of figure 14 only in the shape of the collecting member of the dispensing closure.
As illustrated in fig. 15, the dispensing closure 80 includes an operating element 82 having a grip 82a and a body 82b extending from the grip 82 a. As illustrated, the body 82b is tubular and is provided with a sealing annular flange 82c at an end opposite the grip 82 a.
The dispensing closure 80 further includes a closure member 84 adapted to close the dispensing orifice 24b of the upper container 14. The closure member 84 is tubular.
As illustrated in fig. 15, the closure member 84 includes a fastening element 84a designed to mate with a complementary fastening element provided on the inner surface of the dispensing orifice 24 b. The fastening element 84a is here a quarter turn thread. Alternatively, any other fastening element may be used to temporarily secure dispensing closure 80 in dispensing orifice 24 b.
The closure member 84 further comprises, at its free end, opposite the manoeuvring element 82, a collection member 86 comprising a plurality of radial grooves 86a, for example regularly spaced axially.
The dispensing closure 80, in particular the groove 86a, allows to collect a portion of the product contained in the upper container 14 or the mixture M contained in the lower container 12. The user can then test the extracted portion before using the entire product.
Thus, there is no need to add a different collecting member or to test the product with a cotton swab before the first use.
Thanks to the device according to the invention, it is possible to provide a device for packaging two separate products which is simple in structure, easy to manufacture and provides a good seal between the two containers.

Claims (15)

1. A device (10) for packaging and dispensing at least one product onto a surface, and comprising at least one container (12) defining a product cavity (22) containing the at least one product and a dispensing member (14) mounted on the at least one container (12) and having a first dispensing orifice (24b) in fluid communication with the product cavity (22), the container (12) having a neck (18) allowing access to the product cavity (22), the dispensing member (14) comprising a dispensing conduit (24) in fluid communication with the product cavity (22), an assembly skirt (30) radially surrounding the dispensing conduit (24), and an annular sealing lip (32) radially disposed between the dispensing conduit (24) and the assembly skirt (30), the annular sealing lip (32) radially abuts a sealing portion (18c) of a neck (18) of the container (12), characterized in that the sealing portion (18c) is axially positioned away from an open end of the neck (18).
2. Device according to claim 1, wherein the annular sealing lip (32) of the dispensing member (14) radially abuts against the inner surface of the sealing portion (18c) of the neck.
3. The device according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the sealing portion (18c) of the neck (18) is a portion extending radially inwards from an inner surface of an upper portion (18d) of the neck (18).
4. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the sealing portion (18c) of the neck (18) has an inner diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the sealing lip (32) of the dispensing member (14).
5. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the sealing portion (18c) of the neck (18) is configured to be elastically deformed when inserting the dispensing conduit (24) of the dispensing member (14) into the neck (18) of the at least one container (12).
6. The device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the width of the sealing portion (18c) of the neck (18) is thinner than the width of the open end of the neck (18).
7. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the sealing portion (18C) of the neck (18) has a C-shaped cross-section.
8. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the assembly skirt (30) radially surrounds a neck (18) of the container and cooperates with the neck (18) to axially fix the dispensing member (14) on the container (12).
9. Device according to claim 8, wherein the assembly skirt (30) is provided on its radially inner surface with an annular rim (30a) which cooperates, by means of a snap-fit attachment, with an annular groove (18b) of the container (12), so that the dispensing member (14) is axially retained with respect to the container (12) while allowing a rotational movement of one with respect to the other.
10. Device according to claim 9, wherein the annular groove (18b) of the container (12) is arranged axially between two outer annular shoulders (18a), and wherein the sealing portion (18c) of the neck (18) is located axially above the upper annular shoulder (18 a).
11. A device (10) according to any preceding claim, wherein the dispensing member (14) defines a second container delimiting a second product chamber (24a) containing a second product (B) and separated from the first product chamber (22), the containers (12, 14) being rotatable one with respect to the other without axial movement.
12. Device (10) according to claim 11, wherein the device (10) further comprises a temporary closure member (50) configured to close the open end (28) of the second container (14) before the first use and comprising a cylindrical skirt (52) surrounding the open end (28) and a plug (54) connected to the cylindrical skirt (52), the cylindrical skirt (52) being provided on its cylindrical inner surface with an internal thread (52a) cooperating with an external thread (28a) provided on the upper container (14) and on its cylindrical outer surface with first anti-rotation means (52b) cooperating with second anti-rotation means (18e) provided on the lower container (12) for preventing rotation between the closure member (50) and the lower container (12), the closure member (50) is free of any member of axial retention with both containers (12, 14) such that when the upper container (14) is rotated in a first rotational direction (F1), the closure member (50) translates downward until falling into the first product cavity (22).
13. The device (10) of claim 12, wherein an upper surface of the plug (54) comprises: a first annular sealing lip (54a) extending axially towards the second container (14) and having an outer diameter substantially equal to the inner diameter of the open end (28) of the dispensing conduit (24); and a second sealing lip (54b) extending axially in an annular groove (28b) provided at the end of the lower open end (28).
14. The device (10) of claim 13, wherein the second sealing lip (54b) is annular.
15. Device (10) according to claim 13 or 14, wherein the axial length of the second sealing lip (54b) is smaller than the axial length of the first sealing lip (54 a).
