技术领域
本发明是关于显示装置,尤指一种用于补偿显示面板的亮度不均的方法以及相关显示装置。
背景技术
为了提供电源给一显示面板中的全部的显示单元,在该显示面板中可能需要较长的接线来传送供应电源给距离电源供应电路较远的显示单元。然而,用来实施这些接线的材料并非理想的导体,因此在接线的路径上可能会产生压降而影响显示单元的亮度。尤其是,在不同位置的显示单元的亮度可能不同。因此,需要一种新颖的方法以及相关显示装置来补偿显示面板的亮度不均。
发明内容
本发明的一目的在于提供一种用于补偿一显示面板的亮度不均的方法以及相关显示装置,以提升该显示面板的整体效能。
本发明的另一目的在于提供一种用于补偿一显示面板的亮度不均的方法以及相关显示装置,以在没有副作用或较不会带来副作用的情况下解决相关技术的问题。
本发明至少一实施例提供一种用于补偿一显示面板的亮度不均的方法。该显示面板可包含多个显示区块,且该多个显示区块中的每一者包含一个或多个显示单元。该方法包含:依据一控制信号,选择该多个显示区块中的一显示区块的一电压检测端子,其中该控制信号载有(carry)指出该显示区块的资讯;依据该电压检测端子的电压位准,产生多个参考电压;以及基于该多个参考电压,依据一组显示资料将一显示电压驱动至该显示区块中的一显示单元。

图2为依据本发明一实施例的显示面板10中的显示单元{DU1,…,DUN}的运作所绘示的电路示意图。请连同图1参考图2,显示单元DU1及DUN可分别视为显示区块B1及BN中的显示单元,例如,显示单元DU1可代表与电源供应电路20距离较远的显示单元,而显示单元DUN可代表与电源供应电路20距离较近的显示单元。在本实施例中,显示单元{DU1,…,DUN}中的每一者可包含多个电晶体、一电容器以及一有机发光二极管。显示单元DU1可包含一供应电压端子VS1、电晶体MG1及MS1、一电容器CS1、以及一有机发光二极管OLED1。在本实施例中,电晶体MG1是耦接于一源极线(例如资料线)SL1与电晶体MS1的闸极端子之间,其中电晶体MG1的闸极端子是耦接至一闸极线(例如扫描线)GL1。电晶体MS1的源极端子以及汲极端子分别耦接至供应电压端子VS1以及有机发光二极管OLED1,其中供应电压端子VS1是耦接至一电源接线25。电容器CS1是耦接于电晶体MS1的闸极端子与源极端子之间。显示单元DUN可包含一供应电压端子VSN、电晶体MGN及MSN、一电容器CSN、以及一有机发光二极管OLEDN。由于显示单元DUN的架构与显示单元DU1类似,相关细节为简明起见在此不赘述。请注意,闸极线{GL1,…,GLN}可耦接至闸极驱动器57(为简明起见,于图2中未显示)以允许时序控制器58透过闸极驱动器57以及闸极线{GL1,…,GLN}来控制显示面板10的运作,但本发明不限于此。另外,图1所示的源极驱动器56的一个或多个驱动器电路中的驱动电路56D可包含一显示控制电路56C以及一缓冲器56B(例如,具有一运算放大器(operational amplifier,OPAMP)于其内的缓冲电路),其中显示控制电路56C是耦接至电压产生器54,而缓冲器56B是耦接至显示控制电路56C以及一源极线诸如源极线SL1,但本发明不限于此。
以显示单元DU1为例,显示单元DU1的亮度是由流经有机发光二极管OLED1的电流来决定,其中该电流是由电晶体MS1依据电晶体MS1的闸极端子与源极端子之间的电压差(即电容CS1所储存的电压差)来控制。也就是说,显示单元DU1的亮度是依据供应电压端子VS1上的一供应电压与电晶体MS1的闸极端子上的显示电压VD1之间的电压差(例如,供应电压端子VS1上的供应电压的电压位准与显示电压VD1的电压位准之间的差值)来决定。上述全部显示单元中的其余的显示单元的亮度均可依此类推,为简明起见在此不赘述。
参考图1以及图2,并且以一影像IMG为例,当时序控制器58控制源极驱动器56将显示电压驱动至显示区块B1中的显示单元时,选择电路52可依据控制信号TCON(例如控制信号TCON的一状态STATE1)选择多个显示区块{B1,B2,B3,B4,B5,…,BN}中的显示区块B1的电压检测端子VDT1,其中控制信号TCON(例如状态STATE1)可载有(carry)指出显示区块B1的资讯。电压产生器54可依据电压检测端子VDT1的电压位准产生多个参考电压(例如参考电压{VR1_1,VR2_1,…,VR256_1}),其中该多个参考电压分别对应于多个通道阶值(channellevel value)诸如灰阶值,例如,对于八位元的影像像素单元来说,256个参考电压分别对应于256个通道阶值。请注意,电压检测端子VDT1的电压位准是依据显示区块B1(或显示单元DU1)与电源供应电路20之间的于一连接路径上的距离(即在一电源接线(诸如电源接线25)上的电源传输路径的距离)来决定,但本发明不限于此。源极驱动器56可基于参考电压{VR1_1,VR2_1,…,VR256_1}来将显示电压驱动至显示区块B1中的显示单元,其中,一源极驱动器诸如驱动器电路56D可依据一组显示资料DDATA1将显示电压VD1驱动至显示区块B1中的显示单元DU1,例如,显示控制电路56C可依据该组显示资料DDATA1选择参考电压{VR1_1,VR2_1,…,VR256_1}中的一特定参考电压,并且缓冲器56B可将此特定参考电压传送至显示单元DU1以作为显示电压VD1。因此,驱动电路56D可依据该组显示资料DDATA1在电晶体MS1的闸极端子上产生显示电压VD1,但本发明不限于此。
类似地,当时序控制器58控制源极驱动器56将显示电压驱动至显示区块BN中的显示单元时,选择电路52可依据控制信号TCON(例如控制信号TCON的一状态STATEN)选择多个显示区块{B1,B2,B3,B4,B5,…,BN}中的显示区块BN的电压检测端子VDTN,其中控制信号TCON(例如状态STATEN)可载有(carry)指出显示区块BN的资讯。电压产生器54可依据电压检测端子VDTN的电压位准产生多个参考电压(例如参考电压{VR1_N,VR2_N,…,VR256_N})。请注意,电压检测端子VDTN的电压位准是依据显示区块BN(或显示单元DUN)与电源供应电路20之间的于一连接路径上的距离来决定,但本发明不限于此。源极驱动器56可基于参考电压{VR1_N,VR2_N,…,VR256_N}来将显示电压驱动至显示区块BN中的显示单元,其中,驱动器电路56D可依据一组显示资料DDATAN将显示电压VDN驱动至显示区块BN中的显示单元DUN,例如,显示控制电路56C可依据该组显示资料DDATAN选择参考电压{VR1_N,VR2_N,…,VR256_N}中的一特定参考电压,并且缓冲器56B可将此特定参考电压传送至显示单元DUN以作为显示电压VDN。因此,驱动电路56D可依据该组显示资料DDATAN在电晶体MSN的闸极端子上产生显示电压VDN,但本发明不限于此。驱动其余的显示区块中的单位像素(诸如上述显示单元)的运作均可依此类推,为简明起见在此不赘述。
如图2所示,显示单元DU1(位于图1所示的显示区块B1中)与电源供应电路20之间的距离大于显示单元DUN(位于图1所示的显示区块BN中)与电源供应电路20之间的距离。另外,任一电源接线(诸如图2所示的电源接线25)中的每一区段可具有寄生电阻在其上。例如,此电源接线上可能会有大幅的电压降(voltage drop),使得供应电压端子VS1上的供应电压的电压位准可能低于供应电压端子VSN上的供应电压的电压位准。
为便于理解,请参考图3以及图4,其分别绘示在本发明实施例中使用固定参考电压以及动态参考电压的状况。如图3以及图4所示,显示单元DU_near可代表与电源供应电路20较靠近的显示单元(例如图2所示的显示单元DUN),而显示单元DU_far可代表与电源供应电路20距离较远的显示单元(例如图2所示的显示单元DU1),但本发明不限于此。如上所述,显示单元DU_near以及DU_far的亮度可分别由储存于电容器CS_near以及CS_far中的电压差来控制或决定。在本实施例中,供应电压ELVDD_near以及ELVDD_far可分别代表显示单元DU_near以及DU_far的供应电压。
为便于理解,假设显示单元DU_near以及DU_far在图3以及图4的实施例中正在显示相同的显示资料,诸如一全白影像的显示资料。关于图3所示的使用固定参考电压的状况,由于驱动器56B可将相同位准的显示电压VD_x驱动至显示单元DU_near以及DU_far,因此供应电压ELVDD_near与ELVDD_far之间的电压差V_drop会使得储存在电容器CS_near中的电压差D1大于储存在电容器CS_far中的电压差D2,并且造成亮度的不均匀(D1>D2),其中电压差D1以及D2可分别指出显示单元DU_near以及DU_far的亮度。关于图4所示的使用动态参考电压的状况,其中显示电压VD_near以及VD_far是分别施加于电容器CS_near以及CS_far,而图2所示的电压产生器54亦将电压差V_drop施加于显示电压VD_near以及VD_far之间的电压差上,因此储存于电容器CS_near的电压差D3可等于储存于电容器CS_far的电压差D4。例如,电压产生器54可依据一电压检测端子与电源供应电路20的至少一电源端子之间的电压差(例如,该电压检测端子的电压位准与该电源供应电路20的上述至少一电源端子的电压位准之间的差值)来产生该多个参考电压(例如,参考电压{VR1_1,VR2_1,…,VR256_1}或参考电压{VR1_N,VR2_N,…,VR256_N}),其中上述至少一电源端子的电压位准可视为电压产生器54所需的一供应电压参考位准,但本发明不限于此。因此,亮度不均能透过图4所示的动态参考电压来补偿,使得显示单元DU_near以及DU_far的亮度可以是均匀的(例如,在相同显示资料下亮度是一致的)。
图5为依据本发明一实施例的用于补偿显示面板10的亮度不均的方法的流程图。为便于理解,于以下说明中请连同图1以及图2参考图5。
在步骤510中,选择电路52可依据来自时序控制器58的控制信号来选择多个显示区块{B1,B2,B3,B4,B5,…,BN}中的一显示区块的一电压检测端子,例如,依据载有(carry)指出显示区块B1的资讯(即指出源极驱动器56正在将对应的显示资料驱动至显示区块B1中的显示单元的资讯)的一第一控制信号,选择显示区块B1的电压检测端子VDT1
在步骤520中,电压产生器54可依据于步骤510中所选择的电压检测端子的电压位准,产生分别对应于多个通道阶值的多个参考电压,例如,电压检测端子VDT1
在步骤530中,基于在步骤520中所产生的多个参考电压,源极驱动器56(例如,驱动电路56D)可依据至少一组显示资料将显示电压驱动至显示区块B1中的显示单元,例如,源极驱动器56可依据对应的多组显示资料将多个显示电压分别驱动至该显示区块中的多个显示单元。
如上所述,显示面板10中的全部显示单元可被分为N个显示区块(即多个显示区块{B1,B2,B3,B4,B5,…,BN}),尤其是,铺设于显示面板10中的用来提供电源给全部显示单元的电源接线(以斜线表示),如图1所示,亦被分为N个部分。需注意的是,N的值并非本发明的限制。N的值越大,上述分割越精细,能达到较佳(较精细)的补偿。熟习此技艺者在阅读上述说明后,应可了解N的值的选择所造成的影响,为简明起见在此不赘述。
总结来说,本发明所提供的方法与相关显示装置能检测显示面板10中的位于不同位置的显示区块(例如其内的显示单元)的供应电压的电压位准,并且因应不同显示区块的供应电压的不同的电压位准来调整对应于不同通道阶值的多个参考电压。因此,传送至对应的显示单元的每一显示电压能因应其供应电压的电压位准来调整,使得显示面板10能显示具有均匀亮度的影像。另外,依据本发明的实施例来实施不会大幅地增加额外成本,因此,本发明能在没有副作用或较不会带来副作用的情况下解决相关技术的问题。
以上所述仅为本发明的较佳实施例,凡依本发明的权利要求书所做的均等变化与修改,皆应属本发明的涵盖范围。

Claims (12)

1.一种用于补偿显示面板的亮度不均的方法,其特征在于,所述显示面板包含多个显示区块,所述多个显示区块中的每一者包含一个或多个显示单元,且所述方法包含:
依据控制信号,选择所述多个显示区块中的一显示区块的电压检测端子,其中所述控制信号载有指出所述显示区块的资讯;
依据所述电压检测端子的电压位准,产生多个参考电压;以及
基于所述多个参考电压,依据一组显示资料将显示电压驱动至所述显示区块中的显示单元。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,所述多个参考电压分别对应多个通道阶值。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,所述显示单元包含有机发光二极管。
4.根据权利要求3所述的方法,其特征在于,所述电压检测端子的所述电压位准指出所述显示单元中的供应电压的电压位准,且所述有机发光二极管的亮度依据所述供应电压与所述显示电压之间的电压差来决定。
5.根据权利要求3所述的方法,其特征在于,所述电压检测端子的所述电压位准依据所述显示区块与电源供应电路之间的于连接路径上的距离来决定。
6.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其特征在于,产生所述多个参考电压的步骤包含:
依据所述电压检测端子与所述电源供应电路的至少一电源端子之间的电压差来产生所述多个参考电压。
7.一种显示装置,其特征在于,所述显示装置包含显示面板、选择电路、电压产生器、一个或多个源极驱动器以及控制器,其中:
所述显示面板用来显示影像,其中所述显示面板包含多个显示区块,且所述多个显示区块中的每一者包含一个或多个显示单元;
所述选择电路耦接至所述多个显示区块,用来依据控制信号来选择所述多个显示区块中的一显示区块的电压检测端子,其中所述控制信号载有指出所述显示区块的资讯;
所述电压产生器耦接至所述选择电路,用来依据所述电压检测端子的电压位准来产生多个参考电压;
所述一个或多个源极驱动器耦接至所述显示面板以及所述电压产生器,用来基于所述多个参考电压将显示电压驱动至所述显示面板,其中所述一个或多个源极驱动器中的一源极驱动器依据一组显示资料将显示电压驱动至所述显示区块中的显示单元;以及
所述控制器耦接至所述选择电路以及所述一个或多个源极驱动器,用来控制所述选择电路以及所述一个或多个源极驱动器的操作并产生所述控制信号。
8.根据权利要求7所述的显示装置,其特征在于,所述多个参考电压分别对应多个通道阶值。
9.根据权利要求7所述的显示装置,其特征在于,所述显示单元包含有机发光二极管。
10.根据权利要求9所述的显示装置,其特征在于,还包含:
电源供应电路,其耦接至所述显示面板,用来提供电源给所述显示面板;
其中所述电压检测端子的所述电压位准指出所述显示单元中的供应电压的电压位准,且所述有机发光二极管的亮度依据所述供应电压与所述显示电压之间的电压差来决定。
11.根据权利要求10所述的显示装置,其特征在于,所述电压检测端子的所述电压位准依据所述显示区块与所述电源供应电路之间的于连接路径上的距离来决定。
12.根据权利要求11所述的显示装置,其特征在于,所述电压产生器依据所述电压检测端子与所述电源供应电路的至少一电源端子之间的电压差来产生所述多个参考电压。
