Detailed Description
Hereinafter, a projector according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to the drawings.
(embodiment 1)
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the configuration of a projector according to the present embodiment. Hereinafter, the structure of the projector will be described with reference to fig. 1.
As shown in fig. 1, the projector 1 has a structure in which a main body is covered with a case 2. An opening 3 is provided in the front surface 2f of the housing 2. A projection lens 4 is provided behind the opening 3, and the projection lens 4 projects image light forward. A lens cover 5 (shutter) as a cover is provided in the opening 3 so as to be openable and closable.
The projection lens 4 can be protected by closing the opening 3 with the lens cover 5. The lens cover 5 is made of, for example, a synthetic resin plate-like body. A display unit 6 for displaying various setting contents and an operation panel 7 for performing an input operation by a user are provided on the side surface 2s of the housing 2.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged side view showing a part of a side surface of the housing in an enlarged manner. Hereinafter, a structure of a part of the side surface of the housing will be described with reference to fig. 2.
As shown in fig. 2, a display portion 6 and an operation panel 7 are provided on a side surface 2s of the housing 2. The display unit 6 is constituted by a liquid crystal display, for example. The display unit 6 displays a menu screen for performing various settings of the projector 1, an environmental state of the projector 1 (for example, a temperature inside the main body), and the like.
The operation panel 7 has a plurality of operation keys for the user to make various settings for the projector 1. As the operation keys, for example, a power key 11 for switching on and off (sleep) of the power supply, a close key 12a for closing the lens cover 5 as one of the open-close keys 12, and an open key 12b for opening the lens cover 5 as one of the open-close keys 12 are arranged on the left side of the operation panel 7.
Further, as the operation keys, for example, an input switching key 13 for switching input image information and a menu key 14 for displaying a menu screen for performing various settings are arranged at the center of the operation panel 7.
Further, as the operation keys, for example, a cursor key 15a used when a cursor is moved or the like on the menu screen and a determination key 15b for determining various settings are arranged on the right side of the operation panel 7.
Fig. 3 is a block diagram showing the structure of the projector. Hereinafter, a block diagram showing the configuration of the projector will be described with reference to fig. 3.
As shown in fig. 3, the projector 1 includes a control unit 21, a storage unit 22, an image projecting unit 23 as a projecting unit, an image information processing unit 28, an image information input unit 29, an input operation unit 31, a display unit 6, and a lens cover driving unit 33.
The control unit 21 is configured to include one or more processors, and the control unit 21 operates in accordance with a control program (not shown) stored in the storage unit 22, thereby collectively controlling the operation of the projector 1.
The storage unit 22 includes memories such as a ram (random Access memory) and a rom (read Only memory). The RAM is used to temporarily store various data and the like. The ROM stores a control program for controlling the operation of the projector 1, various kinds of setting information, and the like.
The image projection unit 23 includes a light source 24, 3 liquid crystal light valves 25R, 25G, and 25B, a projection lens 4 as a projection optical system, and a light valve driving unit 27. The image projection unit 23 forms image light by modulating light emitted from the light source 24 with the liquid crystal light valves 25R, 25G, and 25B, and projects the image light from the projection lens 4 to display an image on the projection surface 50.
The light source 24 includes a discharge-type light source lamp such as an ultra-high pressure mercury lamp or a metal halide lamp, or a solid-state light source such as a light emitting diode or a semiconductor laser. The light emitted from the light source 24 is converted into light having a substantially uniform luminance distribution by an unillustrated integrating optical system, is separated into light components of respective colors of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) as 3 primary colors of light by an unillustrated color separating optical system, and then is incident on the liquid crystal light valves 25R, 25G, and 25B, respectively.
The liquid crystal light valves 25R, 25G, and 25B are each configured by a transmissive liquid crystal panel or the like in which liquid crystal is sealed between a pair of transparent substrates. Each liquid crystal panel is provided with a rectangular pixel region 25i formed of a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix, and a drive voltage can be applied to the liquid crystal for each pixel.
The light valve driving section 27 forms an image on the pixel region 25i of the liquid crystal light valves 25R, 25G, and 25B. Specifically, the light valve driving unit 27 applies a driving voltage corresponding to the image information input from the image information processing unit 28 to each pixel of the pixel region 25i, and sets each pixel to have a light transmittance corresponding to the image information.
The light emitted from the light source 24 passes through the pixel region 25i of the liquid crystal light valves 25R, 25G, and 25B, and is modulated for each pixel, thereby forming image light corresponding to image information for each color light. The formed image light of each color is synthesized for each pixel by a color synthesizing optical system, not shown, to become image light representing a color image, and is enlarged and projected onto the projection surface 50 by the projection lens 4. As a result, an image based on the image information input to the image information input unit 29 is displayed on the projection surface 50.
The image information input unit 29 is connected to an external image supply device 30 such as an image playback device, and receives supply of image information corresponding to a content image from the image supply device 30. The image information input unit 29 can receive the image information stored in the storage unit 22 and the image information generated by the control unit 21 from the control unit 21. The image information input unit 29 outputs the input image information to the image information processing unit 28.
The image information processing unit 28 performs various image processing on the image information input from the image information input unit 29 under the control of the control unit 21, and outputs the processed image information to the light valve driving unit 27 of the image projection unit 23. For example, the image information processing unit 28 performs, as necessary, a process of adjusting the image quality of the image information, a process of correcting the shape (distortion) of the image, a process of superimposing an OSD (on screen display) image such as a menu image or a message image on the content image and displaying the superimposed image, and the like.
The input operation unit 31 has the operation panel 7 described above. When the user operates various operation keys of the operation panel 7, the input operation unit 31 receives the operation and outputs an operation signal corresponding to the operation content to the control unit 21. A remote controller (not shown) that can be remotely operated may be used as the input operation unit 31. In this case, the remote controller emits an infrared operation signal corresponding to the operation content of the user, and a remote controller signal receiving unit, not shown, receives the signal and transmits it to the control unit 21.
A commercial power supply (not shown) such as AC100V is supplied from the outside to the power supply circuit 32. When the power key 11 is pressed, the power supply circuit 32 converts a commercial power supply (ac power supply) into a dc power supply of a predetermined voltage, and supplies electric power to each part of the projector 1 (the supply path to each part is not shown). The control unit 21 can control the power supply circuit 32 to start or stop the supply of power to each unit.
Specifically, the control unit 21 can switch between an on state (also referred to as a "power on state") in which power necessary for normal operation of the projector 1 is supplied from the power supply circuit 32 to each unit and an off state (also referred to as a "power off state" or a "sleep state") in which power supply to each unit is restricted and power consumption is much smaller than that in the on state.
As described above, the display section 6 is provided on the side surface 2s of the housing 2 of the projector 1. The display unit 6 is constituted by, for example, a liquid crystal display, and has a size capable of displaying a character string of about 3 lines in the present embodiment.
The lens cap driving unit 33 is configured to include a motor and the like, and drives the opening and closing of the lens cap 5 under the control of the control unit 21. Specifically, when the user presses the open key 12b of the operation panel 7, the control unit 21 instructs the lens cover driving unit 33 to open the lens cover 5. On the other hand, when the user presses the close key 12a of the operation panel 7, the control section 21 instructs the lens cover driving section 33 to close the lens cover 5. The user opens the lens cover 5 when projecting an image from the projector 1, and closes the lens cover 5 to protect the projection lens 4 when not projecting an image. The control unit 21 includes a determination unit 21a and a switching unit 21b as a mode switching unit as functional blocks realized by a control program.
The determination unit 21a determines whether the lens cover 5 is open or closed. The storage unit 22 stores opening/closing information indicating the current opening/closing state of the lens cover 5, and the control unit 21 updates the opening/closing information when the lens cover drive unit 33 opens/closes the lens cover 5. Therefore, the determination section 21a can determine the open/closed state of the lens cover 5 by referring to the open/close information. The projector 1 of the present embodiment operates differently depending on the open/close state of the lens cover 5 when the user performs various settings of the projector 1.
The switching unit 21b switches the operation mode to the 1 st mode or the 2 nd mode according to the use state determined by the determination unit 21 a. Mode 1 and mode 2 will be described later.
Fig. 4 is a flowchart showing the operation of the projector when various settings are made. Fig. 5 is a schematic diagram showing an OSD menu screen as a 1 st setting screen projected onto a projection surface. Fig. 6 is a schematic diagram showing a simple menu screen as a 2 nd setting screen displayed on the display unit. Hereinafter, the operation (control method) of the projector 1 will be described with reference to fig. 4 to 6. When the user operates the menu key 14 of the operation panel 7, the projector 1 operates according to the flow shown in fig. 4.
As shown in fig. 4, in step S101, the control unit 21 determines whether or not the lens cover 5 is open by the determination unit 21 a. If the determination section 21a determines that the lens cover 5 is open (opened state), the control section 21 shifts the process to step S102. If it is determined that the lens cover 5 is closed (closed state), the process proceeds to step S111.
When it is determined that the lens cover 5 is open and the process proceeds to step S102, the control unit 21 causes the image projection unit 23 to project the OSD menu screen 41 onto the projection surface 50, as shown in fig. 5. Specifically, the control unit 21 reads image information of the OSD menu screen 41 from the storage unit 22. Then, the control unit 21 outputs the read image information to the image information processing unit 28, and instructs it to superimpose and project the OSD menu screen 41.
The OSD menu screen 41 is a menu screen as a 1 st setting screen for performing various settings of the projector 1. As items settable on the OSD menu screen 41, there are "image quality setting" for adjusting the color and brightness of a projected image, and "video setting" for setting the resolution, aspect ratio, and the like of an image (video), and the like. Further, it is also possible to enable information relating to the network to be set through the OSD menu screen 41 in a case where the projector 1 is connected to the network, and it is also possible to enable adjustment of the focus state, zoom state, lens shift (lens shift) state, and the like of the projection lens 4 on the OSD menu screen 41.
In step S103, since various settings of the projector 1 are performed, a key input from the operation panel 7 is received. Specifically, as shown in fig. 5, when the user operates a key of the operation panel 7 while viewing the projected OSD menu screen 41, the operation panel 7 outputs an operation signal corresponding to the operation content of the user to the control unit 21. The control unit 21 executes the setting processing corresponding to the operation signal, and ends the flow. Here, the setting processing is, for example, processing for causing the storage unit 22 to store information set by the user.
When it is determined that the lens cover 5 is closed and the process proceeds to step S111, the control unit 21 displays the simple menu screen 42 on the display unit 6 on the side surface 2S of the projector 1 as shown in fig. 6. Specifically, the control unit 21 reads the image information of the simple menu screen 42 from the storage unit 22. Then, the control unit 21 outputs the read image information to the display unit 6, and instructs it to display the simple menu screen 42.
The simple menu screen 42 is a menu screen that is a 2 nd setting screen for performing various settings of the projector 1, and includes, as settable items, the "image quality setting", the "image setting", and the "video setting" as well as settings related to the network, settings related to the projection lens 4, and the like as necessary, in the same manner as the OSD menu screen 41.
In step S112, a key input from the operation panel 7 is accepted for various settings of the projector 1. Specifically, when the user operates the keys of the operation panel 7 while viewing the simple menu screen 42 displayed on the display unit 6, the operation panel 7 outputs an operation signal corresponding to the operation content of the user to the control unit 21. The control unit 21 executes the setting processing corresponding to the operation signal, and ends the flow.
The 1 st mode includes an operation of projecting the OSD menu screen 41 on the projection surface 50 without displaying the simple menu screen 42 on the display unit 6 and operating the operation panel 7 in accordance with the display of the OSD menu screen 41. The 2 nd mode includes an operation of displaying the simple menu screen 42 on the display unit 6 without displaying the OSD menu screen 41 on the projection surface 50 and operating the operation panel 7 in accordance with the display of the display unit 6.
As described above, according to the projector 1 and the control method of the projector 1 of embodiment 1, the following effects can be obtained.
(1) According to embodiment 1, if the lens cover 5 is opened, the projector 1 projects the OSD menu screen 41 on the projection surface 50, and if the lens cover 5 is closed, the projector 1 displays the simple menu screen 42 on the display section 6. That is, when the lens cover 5 is opened and an image can be projected, the OSD menu screen 41 is displayed on the projection surface 50, and therefore, the user can set a large screen. On the other hand, when the lens cover 5 is closed and the image cannot be projected, the simple menu screen 42 is displayed on the display unit 6, so that the user can perform setting without projecting the image from the projector 1. In this way, since the projector 1 displays the menu screen in an appropriate manner according to the open/close state of the lens cover 5, the convenience of the user when setting the projector 1 can be improved.
(2) According to embodiment 1, since the setting screen projected on the projection surface 50 is an OSD image, it can be displayed so as to be superimposed on another projection image, and various settings of the projector 1 can be performed smoothly.
(embodiment 2)
Fig. 7 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the projector of embodiment 2. Hereinafter, the configuration of the projector according to embodiment 2 will be described with reference to fig. 7.
The projector 1 according to embodiment 1 differs in the display form of the menu screen depending on the open/close state of the lens cover 5, but the projector 1 according to embodiment 2 differs in the display form of the menu screen depending on the state of the projection surface 50. Since the other portions are substantially the same as those in embodiment 1, in embodiment 2, portions different from those in embodiment 1 will be described in detail, and the description of the other overlapping portions will be omitted as appropriate.
As shown in fig. 7, the projector 1 includes a control unit 21, a storage unit 22, an image projection unit 23, an image information processing unit 28, an image information input unit 29, an input operation unit 31, a display unit 6, and an imaging unit 8. The projector 1 according to embodiment 2 is different in that it includes an imaging unit 8 in addition to the configuration of embodiment 1.
The imaging unit 8 is a camera having an imaging element (not shown) such as a ccd (charge Coupled device) sensor or a cmos (complementary metal Oxide semiconductor) sensor. The imaging unit 8 is arranged to be able to image the direction of the projection surface 50, that is, the direction in which the image is projected from the image projection unit 23. The image pickup unit 8 picks up an OSD menu screen 41 projected on the projection surface 50 in accordance with an instruction from the control unit 21.
The determination unit 21a of the present embodiment determines whether or not the user can properly view the OSD menu screen 41 based on the OSD menu screen 41 captured by the imaging unit 8. For example, when a screen that should be originally provided as the projection surface 50 is not provided, or when a content image is projected on the projection surface 50 where the unevenness originally exists, the projected OSD menu screen 41 appears distorted or appears to bend. Further, in the case of projecting on a dark-colored face, it is also difficult to see the OSD menu screen 41. In such a case, a problem occurs in that setting of the projector 1 becomes difficult for the user.
The determination unit 21a detects the outline of the OSD menu screen 41 by performing an outline extraction process on the image captured by the imaging unit 8. Then, when the contour is not detected, or when the contour is distorted or discontinuous, the determination unit 21a determines that the state of the projection surface 50 is not a state in which the OSD menu screen 41 can be properly viewed. The projector 1 of the present embodiment operates differently depending on the state of the projection surface 50 when the user performs various settings of the projector 1.
Fig. 8 is a flowchart showing the operation of the projector according to embodiment 2. Hereinafter, the operation (control method) of the projector 1 according to embodiment 2 will be described with reference to fig. 8. When the user operates the menu key 14 of the operation panel 7, the projector 1 operates according to the flow shown in fig. 8.
As shown in fig. 8, in step S201, the control unit 21 instructs the image information processing unit 28 to project the OSD menu screen 41 from the image projecting unit 23. In step S202, the control unit 21 instructs the image pickup unit 8 to pick up an image of the OSD menu screen 41 projected on the projection surface 50.
In step S203, the control unit 21 determines whether or not the state of the projection surface 50 is a state in which the OSD menu screen 41 can be viewed properly by the determination unit 21 a. If the determination unit 21a determines that the OSD menu screen 41 is properly visible, the control unit 21 proceeds to step S204 to continue to project the OSD menu screen. On the other hand, if it is determined that the OSD menu screen 41 cannot be viewed properly, the control unit 21 shifts the process to step S211.
In step S205, a key input is accepted for various settings of the projector 1. The contents of the projected OSD menu screen 41 are the same as those of embodiment 1 described above.
When it is determined that the state of the projection surface 50 is the state in which the OSD menu screen 41 is not properly viewed and the process proceeds to step S211, the control unit 21 instructs the image information processing unit 28 to stop superimposing the OSD menu screen 41. Then, in step S212, as shown in fig. 6, the control unit 21 displays the simple menu screen 42 on the display unit 6 on the side surface 2S of the projector 1. Specifically, the control unit 21 reads the image information of the simple menu screen 42 from the storage unit 22. Further, the control unit 21 instructs the display unit 6 to display the simple menu screen 42.
In step S213, a key input from the operation panel 7 is accepted for various settings of the projector 1. The contents of the simple menu screen 42 displayed are the same as those in embodiment 1 described above.
As described above, according to the projector 1 and the control method of the projector 1 of embodiment 2, the following effects can be obtained.
(3) According to embodiment 2, the projector 1 images the OSD menu screen 41 projected on the projection surface 50 by the imaging unit 8, and if it is determined that the state of the projection surface 50 is a state in which the OSD menu screen 41 can be viewed properly, the setting is performed on the OSD menu screen 41 displayed on the projection surface 50, and if it is determined that the state of the OSD menu screen 41 cannot be viewed properly, the setting is performed by displaying the simple menu screen 42 on the display unit 6. For example, when the projection surface 50 is light and smooth, the OSD menu screen 41 is displayed on the projection surface 50, and thus the user can set a large screen. On the other hand, when the projection surface 50 is a concave-convex surface or a dark color, the simple menu screen 42 is displayed on the display unit 6, and therefore, the user can set the simple menu screen without viewing the projection surface 50. In this way, since the projector 1 displays the menu screen in an appropriate manner according to the state of the projection surface 50, the convenience of the user when setting the projector 1 can be improved.
(modification example)
The above embodiment may be modified as follows.
In the above embodiment, the lens cover 5 is opened and closed by driving the lens cover driving unit 33, but the present invention is not limited thereto, and the lens cover 5 may be manually opened and closed. When the lens cover 5 is manually opened or closed, a detection unit for detecting the open or closed state of the lens cover 5 may be provided, and the determination unit 21a may determine whether or not the lens cover 5 is opened based on the detection result of the detection unit. Further, if the setting determination section 21a determines whether or not the lens cover 5 is open based on the image of the projection surface 50 captured by the imaging section 8, the detection section need not be provided.
In the above-described embodiment, the menu screen (the OSD menu screen 41 or the simple menu screen 42) is selected in accordance with the open/close state of the lens cover 5 as in embodiment 1, or the menu screen (the OSD menu screen 41 or the simple menu screen 42) is selected in accordance with the display state of the OSD menu screen 41 as in embodiment 2, but the present invention is not limited thereto, and a combination of embodiment 1 and embodiment 2 may be employed.
For example, first, the lens cover 5 is opened in advance, the OSD menu screen 41 is projected, and the imaging unit 8 and the determination unit 21a determine the state of the projection surface 50. If the OSD menu screen 41 is correctly displayed, various settings of the projector 1 are performed while observing the OSD menu screen 41. On the other hand, if the OSD menu screen 41 is not displayed correctly, the simple menu screen 42 is displayed on the display unit 6, and various settings of the projector 1 are performed while viewing the simple menu screen 42.
The same menu screen may be displayed, not only when the OSD menu screen 41 is projected on the projection surface 50 and the simple menu screen 42 is displayed on the display unit 6 as in the above-described embodiment. Specifically, an enlarged menu screen (OSD menu screen) is displayed on the projection surface 50, and the same menu screen that is not enlarged is displayed on the display unit 6. The simple menu screen 42 is not limited to the 3-line display shown in fig. 6, and may be a display of less than 2 lines, or may display a number of lines of 4 or more lines.
As in the above-described embodiment, the flowcharts shown in fig. 4 and 8 are started when the menu key 14 of the operation panel 7 is operated, but the present invention is not limited thereto, and the flowcharts shown in fig. 4 and 8 may be started immediately after the projector 1 is started, for example.
In the above embodiment, the determination unit 21a may detect the outline of the screen as the projection surface 50 from the image captured by the imaging unit 8. In this case, when the determination unit 21a detects the contour, the control unit 21 causes the image projection unit 23 to project the OSD menu screen 41, and when the contour cannot be determined, causes the display unit 6 to display the simple menu screen 42.
As in the above-described embodiment, the OSD menu screen 41 is projected on the projection surface 50 or the simple menu screen 42 is displayed on the display unit 6 depending on the open/close state of the lens cover 5 or the state of the projection surface 50, but the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, the determination unit 21a determines the lighting state of the light source 24 of the projector 1, and when the light source 24 is turned on, the control unit 21 projects the OSD menu screen 41 on the projection surface 50 to perform various settings. On the other hand, the control unit 21 may cause the display unit 6 to display the simple menu screen 42 when the light source 24 is turned off, such as in a power-off state, a power-saving mode state, and a state in which projection of an image is temporarily stopped.
In the case where the image projecting unit 23 is configured to be replaceable with the projection lens 4, a detection unit may be provided to detect the attachment state of the projection lens 4. In this case, the determination unit 21a determines whether or not the projection lens 4 is mounted, based on the detection result of the detection unit. Then, the control unit 21 causes the image projection unit 23 to project the OSD menu screen 41 when the projection lens 4 is attached, and causes the display unit 6 to display the simple menu screen 42 when the projection lens 4 is not attached.
In the case where each projector 1 is arranged so that a part of an image overlaps another projector 1 in the mode in which 1 large image is projected by a plurality of projectors 1, the determination unit 21a may determine whether or not the width of the overlapping area where the images overlap is smaller than the threshold value. In this case, when the overlap area is smaller than the threshold value, the control unit 21 causes the image projection unit 23 to project the OSD menu screen 41. On the other hand, when the overlap region has a width equal to or larger than the threshold value, the simple menu screen 42 is displayed on the display unit 6 because the OSD menu screen 41 may be blocked by images of other projectors 1.
The determination unit 21a may determine whether or not an obstacle is present between the image projection unit 23 and the projection surface 50 based on an image captured by the imaging unit 8 or a detection result of an obstacle sensor, not shown. In this case, when there is no obstacle, the control unit 21 causes the image projection unit 23 to project the OSD menu screen 41. On the other hand, when there is an obstacle, the simple menu screen 42 is displayed on the display unit 6.
Note that, a change in the use state of the projector 1 may be monitored, and when the use state changes, the state in which the simple menu screen 42 is displayed and the state in which the OSD menu screen 41 is displayed may be switched.
Hereinafter, the contents derived from the embodiments are described.

According to this configuration, the imaging unit images the 1 st setting screen projected on the projection surface, and if it is determined that the state of the projection surface is a state in which the 1 st setting screen is properly visible, the imaging unit performs setting on the 1 st setting screen displayed on the projection surface, and if it is determined that the state of the 1 st setting screen is not properly visible, the imaging unit performs setting by displaying the 2 nd setting screen on the display unit. For example, when the projection surface is light and smooth, the 1 st setting screen is displayed on the projection surface, and therefore, the user can set on a large screen. On the other hand, when the projection surface is a concave-convex surface or a dark color, the 2 nd setting screen is displayed on the display unit, and therefore, the user can perform setting without viewing the projection surface. In this way, the projector displays the screen in an appropriate manner according to the state of the projection surface, and therefore, the convenience of the user when setting the projector can be improved.
In the projector described above, it is preferable that the projection unit includes a light source, the determination unit determines a lighting state of the light source, and the mode switching unit sets the operation mode to the 1 st mode if the light source is turned on, and sets the operation mode to the 2 nd mode if the light source is turned off.
According to this configuration, since the lighting state of the light source is determined and the image is displayed by switching between the 1 st mode and the 2 nd mode according to the lighting state, the screen can be displayed in an appropriate manner, and convenience of the user when setting the projector can be improved.
In the projector described above, it is preferable that the projection unit includes a projection optical system that can be replaced, the determination unit determines an attachment state of the projection optical system, and the mode switching unit sets the operation mode to the 1 st mode if the projection optical system is attached, and sets the operation mode to the 2 nd mode if the projection optical system is not attached.
According to this configuration, since the mounting state of the projection optical system is determined and the 1 st mode and the 2 nd mode are switched according to the mounting state to display the image, the screen can be displayed in an appropriate manner, and convenience of the user when setting the projector can be improved.

According to this method, if the cover is opened, the 1 st setting screen is projected on the projection surface, and if the cover is closed, the 2 nd setting screen is displayed on the display section. That is, when the cover is opened and an image can be projected, the 1 st setting screen is displayed on the projection surface, and therefore, the user can set a large screen. On the other hand, when the cover is closed and the image cannot be projected, the 2 nd setting screen is displayed on the display unit, and therefore, the user can perform setting without projecting the image from the projector. In this way, the projector displays the screen in an appropriate manner according to the open/close state of the cover, and therefore, the convenience of the user when setting the projector can be improved.
In the above-described projector control method, it is preferable that the projection surface is photographed, whether or not the state of the projection surface is a state in which the 1 st setting screen is visible is determined, the operation mode is set to the 1 st mode when the state of the projection surface is determined to be a state in which the 1 st setting screen is visible, and the operation mode is set to the 2 nd mode when the state of the projection surface is determined not to be a state in which the 1 st setting screen is visible.
According to this method, the image pickup unit picks up an image of a 1 st setting screen projected on the projection surface, and if it is determined that the state of the projection surface is a state in which the 1 st setting screen can be viewed properly, the image pickup unit performs setting on the 1 st setting screen displayed on the projection surface, and if it is determined that the state of the 1 st setting screen cannot be viewed properly, the image pickup unit performs setting by displaying a 2 nd setting screen on the display unit.
