Description

Pivoting element for a gooseneck hinge of a vehicle closure, gooseneck hinge and vehicle body
Technical Field
The present invention relates to the field of motor vehicles. More particularly, the invention relates to a hinge of a trunk lid fixed to the body of a motor vehicle.
Background
Published patent document FR2928883B1 discloses a method of fitting a trunk lid to a vehicle body. The trunk lid is assembled by means of a gooseneck hinge. The hinges each comprise a gooseneck-shaped arm to be rigidly attached to the trunk lid, and a pivoting element to be fitted to the body, on which pivoting element the arm is pivotally fitted. The pivot element includes a body made of a raised steel plate having a pocket for receiving an end of the gooseneck arm and a mounting bracket surrounding the pocket. When the trunk lid is manipulated, the frictional force generated between the hinge arms and the pivot members directly affects the movement accuracy and the ease of manipulation of the trunk lid. The arm is typically pivotally connected to the housing by means of a rod and one or more bushings. Depending on the shape of the cavity, dimensional and geometric accuracy may vary. Furthermore, depending on the depth of the cavity, the protrusion may cause difficulties. In fact, it is foreseen that the side walls of said cavities are slightly inclined, so as to facilitate the embossing process. Thus, the bushing between the arm and the hinge housing cannot be properly secured by compression between the sidewalls and therefore cannot rotate about the axis. This may result in unnecessary noise, unnecessary friction torque, and additional effort when maneuvering the trunk lid.
In addition, an ambient air blower is typically provided in the luggage compartment. While driving the vehicle, the noise generated by the driving can thus be transmitted to the trunk and passenger compartment of the vehicle through the exhaust blower. Depending on the way in which the pivoting elements of the hinge of the trunk lid are fitted on the rear parcel shelf of said vehicle, noise can be transmitted directly from the trunk to the passenger compartment. In fact, there may be a gap or even an opening between the pivoting element and the rear parcel shelf. The pivot element may also have an opening that allows noise from the luggage compartment to directly reach the passenger compartment.

Detailed Description
Fig. 1 is a view of a trunk lid 2 according to the invention pivotally mounted on a vehicle body 4 by means of a gooseneck hinge 6. Each of the gooseneck hinges 6 comprises: a gooseneck pivot arm 8; and a pivot element 10 supporting the pivot arm 8. The body 4 further comprises a cross member 11, for example a parcel shelf for receiving a lining (not shown), the pivoting element 10 being fastened to the cross member 11 of the body 4. As can be seen more precisely on the enlarged part of the figure, the pivoting element 10 comprises a body 12 having a housing 14 forming a cavity for pivotally receiving the end of the gooseneck pivot arm 8 of the hinge; the body 12 also comprises, adjacent to said cavity, a mounting bracket 15, which is mounted on the cross member 11. The pivoting member 10 also includes a sound shield 16 of the body 12 that surrounds the housing 14 of the body 12 when the sound shield is placed on the body. The acoustic enclosure 16 fits over the pivoting element 10 on the cross member 11. The cover 16 includes a cavity 18 that covers and surrounds the housing 14 of the body 12 when the cover 16 is placed on the body 12, and the cover 16 further includes a flange 20 adjacent the cavity 18, the flange 20 extending over the mounting bracket 15 when the cover is placed on the body 12. It can be seen that the cross member 11 forms an opening 25 through which the pivoting member 10 is inserted, the flange 20 of the cover 16 being in contact with the cross member 11 around the opening 25. The hood 16 is associated with the cross member 11 via a contact surface 21 of the hood, which will be explained in more detail in fig. 2. The hood 16 forms a closed barrier around the opening 25. The cross member 11 includes a fixing hole 23 for receiving a mounting stud 24 of the mounting bracket 15 to fix the mounting bracket 15 with the cross member 11. It can also be seen that the flange 20 of the cover 16 includes a recess 26 surrounding the fixing stud 24.
FIG. 2 is a side view of the acoustical enclosure 16 of the gooseneck hinge according to the present invention. The cover 16 is a molded part preferably made of plastic. The cover comprises a seal 28 applied on the flange 20 of the cover, which seal forms a contact surface 21 of the flange 20 in contact with a cross member (not shown). The contact surface 21 may be non-planar, the non-planar shape of the contact surface 21 corresponding to the shape of the cross member portion to which the cover 16 is fitted. The seal 28 is configured to be in full contact with the cross member. The seal 28 may be made of EPDM foam, more preferably semi-closed cell EPDM foam. The seal 28 may include at least one adhesive layer 30 on the surface 21 for securing the cover 16 to the cross member. It can also be seen that the acoustic enclosure 16 includes a layer 32 of damping material applied on top of the shell of the enclosure 16; the damping material may be an EPDM foam, more preferably a closed cell EPDM foam. It can also be seen that the cover includes reinforcing ribs 34 extending from an outer surface 35 of the cover 16.
Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the acoustic enclosure 16 of the gooseneck hinge according to the present invention. The cavity 18 of the cover, the flange 20 surrounding the cavity and the seal 28 applied to the flange 20 can be seen. The seal 28 is advantageously applied to the flange by means of an adhesive layer.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view IV-IV of the body 4 at the location of the pivotal element 10 of the gooseneck hinge 6. The gooseneck arm 8 fitted on the body 12 of the pivoting element 10 and the body 12 forming the housing 14 can be seen. The cross member 11 is also visible, as well as the mounting bracket 15 of said body 12, mounted on the lower surface of the cross member 11. Finally, acoustic enclosure 16 can be seen, which fits over the upper surface of cross member 11. The cavity 18 of the cover 16 surrounds the housing 14 of the body 12 of the pivoting member 10. It can be seen that a groove can be implemented on the top of the housing of the body to facilitate the protrusion of the body. The liner 36 shown in connection with FIG. 1 is also shown in FIG. 4; the liner may be in contact with the hood 16, in this case the damping seal 32 of the hood 16.
