Description
背景
若干原因使喷墨印刷成为在各种介质表面,特别是纸上记录图像的流行方式。其中一些原因包括低印刷机噪音、可变内容记录、高速记录和多色记录能力。另外,消费者可以以相对较低的价格获得这些优点。但是,尽管喷墨印刷已取得巨大改进,但伴随着这种改进的是这一领域中的消费者的更高要求,例如更高速度、更高分辨率、全色成像、提高的稳定性等。另外,喷墨印刷技术在高速商业印刷市场中越来越流行。无论平台如何,特别是在用基于染料的喷墨墨水印刷时,实现或保持高光学密度以及保持降低的渗出(bleed)具有挑战性。一般用于这些类型的印刷的涂布介质在这些类型的喷墨印刷装置上表现得相当可接受,但在涉及图像品质时仍有改进的空间。因此,仍在继续研究和开发介质。

现在更具体转向本公开的涂层配制物,如所提到的,这样的涂层包含,按干重量计,5重量%至30重量%的聚合物粘合剂;20重量%至50重量%的阳离子胶乳;5重量%至15重量%的多价阳离子盐;1重量%至20重量%的荧光增白剂,例如含磺酸或磺酸盐的均二苯乙烯荧光增白剂;和1重量%至10重量%的磺化二苯醚表面活性剂、聚乙烯吡咯烷酮或其组合。在这一实例中,如果该聚合物粘合剂是聚乙烯吡咯烷酮,则该抗淬灭剂是磺化二苯醚,例如二苯醚二磺酸盐或己基二苯醚二磺酸二钠。在一个实例中,该涂层可进一步包含1重量%至20重量%的空芯胶乳粒子和/或5重量%至35重量%的阴离子或阳离子型碳酸钙颜料或粘土。这些固体通常在液体载体中制备,将所述液体载体蒸发或干燥以在基底上留下作为干涂层的涂料固体。通常主要是水或可以仅是水的液体载体通常构成初始涂层配制物的25重量%至50重量%。要指出,对该涂料组合物所列的重量百分比列举在液体载体已从该涂料组合物中干燥或蒸发后的重量。
现在转向可存在于最终涂层中的具体成分,聚合物粘合剂可用于将该涂层的材料粘合在一起,但也可提供其它印刷品质优点,例如提供改进的渗出控制。在本公开的一个具体方面中,该聚合物粘合剂可以是水溶性聚合物粘合剂,尽管这不是必需的。例如,该聚合物粘合剂可以是可用于根据本公开的实例将颗粒物粘合在一起的聚合物材料的任何亲水或亲水/疏水共混物。“水溶性”是指该聚合物粘合剂在该涂料组合物中通常是至少部分水溶性的、大部分水溶性的(至少50%)或在一些实例中完全水溶性的(至少99%)。聚乙烯醇、聚乙烯吡咯烷酮、淀粉、具有-20℃至20℃的玻璃化转变温度(Tg)的低Tg胶乳和蛋白质是可使用的可接受的水溶性聚合物粘合剂的实例。可用的淀粉粘合剂的实例包括可获自Penford Corporation的Gums,如280(羟乙基化淀粉)。可用作粘合剂的低Tg胶乳的实例尤其是胶乳,如2300(含支链烷烃羧酸乙烯酯(vinyl versatate)的胶乳)。可用的聚乙烯醇粘合剂的实例包括可获自Sigma-Aldrich的PVOH粘合剂,例如4-98。
任选地,并与该聚合物粘合剂组合,在本公开的涂层配制物中也可包含交联剂。交联剂包括尤其对给定涂料组合物中所用的水溶性聚合物粘合剂具有交联性质的材料。合适的交联剂包括硼酸、碳酸锆铵(AZC)、碳酸锆钾(KZC)和OCHCHO(乙二醛)。更具体地,在一些实例中,硼酸是聚乙烯醇可接受的交联剂,在另一些实例中,AZC、KZC和乙二醛是蛋白质和淀粉可接受的交联剂。在一个实例中,非酸性交联剂,如基于嵌段乙二醛的不溶物(insolubilizer)(例如来自BASF的200)可用于交联水溶性粘合剂,并且在也使用阴离子非成膜聚合物颗粒物时,这些特别有用。如果存在交联剂,其通常以相对较小浓度存在于该涂料组合物中,例如该配制物的0.01重量%至5重量%,并在许多情况中,交联剂更通常以1∶100至1∶4交联剂/粘合剂重量比存在,尽管这些浓度和比率无意构成限制。
该阳离子胶乳在一个实例中可以具有20℃至120℃的玻璃化转变温度,在另一实例中,该阳离子胶乳可以是70℃至120℃的高Tg阳离子胶乳。这样的材料可包括如来自Specialty Polymers,Inc.的82(丙烯酸乳液聚合物,固含量40%,pH 4.5和玻璃化转变温度25℃)、29033(苯乙烯/丙烯酸系共聚物,固含量40%,pH 5.0和玻璃化转变温度77℃)和78(聚丙烯酸乳液聚合物,固含量40%,pH 5.5和玻璃化转变温度114℃)之类的材料。这些示例性阳离子胶乳是本文中可用的合适材料的实例,但要指出,也可以使用目前可得或将来可得的符合作为阳离子胶乳的标准的其它材料。
现在转向多价阳离子盐,在本公开的介质涂层中可以使用各种类型的盐。通常,该盐可以是例如氯化钙、氯化镁、溴化钙、溴化镁、硝酸钙、硝酸镁或水合氯化铝。这些盐可充当基于颜料的喷墨墨水的粉碎剂(crashing agent)。因此这种添加剂可为涂布介质提供多用性,在该涂布介质中其它成分可有助于为基于染料的墨水提供改进的图像品质,而在使用基于颜料的喷墨墨水时该多价盐的存在可有助于图像品质。
如上文简述的,也存在荧光增白剂,并可包含许多改进本文所述的配制物中的黑色光学密度的荧光增白剂。根据本公开的实例,该荧光增白剂可以是含磺酸或磺酸盐的均二苯乙烯荧光增白剂。具体实例可包括二磺酸-或二磺化均二苯乙烯、四磺酸-或四磺化均二苯乙烯或六磺酸-或六磺化均二苯乙烯(各自包括其衍生物)。具体实例包括来自TheFong Min International Co.,Ltd.的SCBP(4,4’-双(1,3,5-三嗪基氨基)均二苯乙烯-2,2’-二磺酸衍生物)、来自Blankophor的TP1160(磺化均二苯乙烯衍生物)或来自Archroma Paper的FTS(阳离子双(三嗪基氨基)均二苯乙烯二磺酸衍生物)。另一实例是可以商品名ABP-A购自BASF的四磺化(hexatetrasulfonated)均二苯乙烯化合物。
某些类型的荧光增白剂,包括上文提到的含磺酸或磺酸盐的均二苯乙烯荧光增白剂的添加可以改进基于染料的黑色喷墨墨水的光学密度。在一些情况中,这样的配制物因此可用于替代更传统在普通纸和其它介质基底上使用的传统施胶涂层。例如,对典型的纸涂层而言,黑色光学密度(KOD)相对较低。在本公开的某些实例中,对于许多基于染料的黑色喷墨墨水,KOD可以从1.3或更低提高到大于1.3或甚至大于1.35或1.4。可由这些配制物产生的另外的改进可包括将黑线渗出(不规则)从30微米或更大降至25微米或更小(较低数值表明较小直线渗出和因此表明渗出改进)。可通过来自Quality EngineeringAssociates,Inc.,MA,USA的QEA Personal Image Analysis System测量这些单位。因此,本公开的配制物可带来改进的总体图像品质。
抗淬灭剂是本公开的配制物中所用的另一种成分。如所提到的,该抗淬灭剂可以是聚乙烯吡咯烷酮(当聚合物粘合剂不是聚乙烯吡咯烷酮时)或其可以是磺化二苯醚表面活性剂,无论选择使用的聚合物粘合剂是什么。基本观察到,由于荧光增白剂和多价阳离子盐之间的淬灭效应,在多价阳离子盐存在下,可降低荧光增白剂提供的白度和亮度。因此,根据本公开的实例,相对少量的磺化二苯醚或聚乙烯吡咯烷酮作为抗淬灭剂的添加可破坏该淬灭效应,其否则会降低荧光增白剂提供的亮度。这可以以相对良好的效率实现。例如,与添加两倍附加荧光增白剂的配制物相比,少量聚乙烯吡咯烷酮或二苯醚二磺酸盐已显示类似地保持介质涂层的白度和亮度。在涂层配制物的制备中,高效组分通常有益,因为它们可以为可提供进一步改进的性质的其它成分的添加留出空间。
也可包含空芯粒子,有时也被称作中空塑料颜料。这些空芯粒子可对区域填充均匀性具有正面影响。这些空芯粒子可包含在粒子体积的外部尺寸内的一个或多个空隙。该空芯粒子即使在干燥条件下也可例如具有大约20%至70%或大约30%至60%的内部空隙体积。此外,这些空芯粒子可具有大约0.1至10微米、大约0.1至5微米,和大约0.1至2微米的直径,和大约30℃至120℃、或大约60℃至120℃的玻璃化转变温度(Tg)。
这些空芯粒子可衍生自以下化学品:例如但不限于苯乙烯单体、丙烯酸系单体、甲基丙烯酸系单体、异戊二烯(例如胶乳)、酸单体、非离子单烯键式不饱和单体、多烯键式不饱和单体及其组合。该酸单体可包括,但不限于,丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸及其混合物;和丙烯酰氧基丙酸、甲基丙烯酰氧基丙酸、丙烯酰氧基乙酸、甲基丙烯酰氧基乙酸和单甲基酸衣康酸酯(monomethyl acid itaconate)。该非离子单烯键式不饱和单体可包括,但不限于,苯乙烯和苯乙烯衍生物(例如含烷基、含氯和含溴的苯乙烯)、乙烯基甲苯、乙烯、乙烯基酯(例如乙酸乙烯酯、甲酸乙烯酯、乙酸乙烯酯、丙酸乙烯酯、苯甲酸乙烯酯、新戊酸乙烯酯、2-乙基己酸乙烯酯、甲基丙烯酸乙烯酯、新癸酸乙烯酯和新壬酸乙烯酯)、支链烷烃羧酸乙烯酯、月桂酸乙烯酯、硬脂酸乙烯酯、肉豆蔻酸乙烯酯、丁酸乙烯酯、戊酸乙烯酯、氯乙烯、偏二氯乙烯、丙烯腈、甲基丙烯腈、丙烯酰胺、甲基丙烯酰胺、叔丁基丙烯酰胺、叔丁基甲基丙烯酰胺、异丙基丙烯酰胺(isopropylarylamide)、异丙基甲基丙烯酰胺和甲基丙烯酸或丙烯酸的C1-C20烷基或C3-C20烯基酯、丙烯酸羟乙酯、甲基丙烯酸羟乙酯、丙烯酸羟丙酯、甲基丙烯酸羟丙酯和甲基丙烯酸2,3-二羟丙酯等。多烯键式不饱和单体可包括,但不限于,乙二醇二甲基丙烯酸酯、乙二醇二丙烯酸酯、丙烯酸烯丙酯、甲基丙烯酸烯丙酯、1,3-丁二醇二甲基丙烯酸酯、1,3-丁二醇二丙烯酸酯、二乙二醇二甲基丙烯酸酯、二乙二醇二丙烯酸酯、三羟甲基丙烷三甲基丙烯酸酯或二乙烯基苯。特别地,该空芯粒子可包括,但不限于,丙烯酸乳液或苯乙烯丙烯酸乳液,如Ultra、HP-543、HP-643、AF-1055或OP-96(可获自Rohm and Haas Co.(Philadelphia,PA))或羧化苯乙烯/丙烯酸酯共聚物,例如Dow plastic pigment HS 2000NA、Dow plasticpigment 3000NA,羧化苯乙烯/丁二烯共聚物,例如Dow Latex HSB 3042NA(可获自DowChemical Co.(Midland,Ml))。
在一个实例中,在该配制物也可存在按干重量计1重量%至15重量%的阳离子聚胺。本配制物中所用的阳离子聚胺的特征在于在存在于印刷介质表面上的涂层中时,当在其上印刷基于染料的喷墨墨水时,阳离子基团可用于使染料不溶。在这些情况中,可存在携带将与阴离子染料交换并使该染料从墨水溶液中沉淀的抗衡离子的阳离子基团,尽管这一反应机制不是必需的。在另一实例中,本配制物中所用的阳离子聚胺通常以比传统上用作纸工业中的施胶剂的聚合物高的阳离子官能度为特征。例如,传统施胶剂通常没有可用于使染料不溶的阳离子基团。
根据本文中的实例,该阳离子聚胺具有5000Mw至200,000Mw的重均分子量。这些阳离子聚胺也可以是季铵或在酸条件下转化成季铵的胺的聚合物。本配制物中所用的许多阳离子聚胺可购得,并且形成该聚合物的单体单元的至少大约3摩尔%衍生自具有阳离子基团的阳离子单体。或者,该阳离子聚胺的至少大约10摩尔%的单体单元是阳离子型的。这些聚合物的特征进一步在于存在高百分比的阳离子基团,如叔氨基和季铵阳离子基团。代表性的聚合物是阳离子单体的均聚物或共聚物,所述阳离子单体如季二烯丙基二烷基氯化铵,例如二烯丙基二甲基氯化铵,N-烷基氯化铵、甲基丙烯酰氨基丙基三甲基氯化铵、甲基丙烯酰氧基乙基三甲基氯化铵、2-羟基-3-甲基丙烯酰氧基丙基三甲基氯化铵、甲基丙烯酰氧基乙基三甲基硫酸二甲酯铵(methacryloxyethyl trimethylammonium methosulfate)、乙烯基苄基三甲基氯化铵和季铵化4-乙烯基吡啶。可用的聚胺的一些具体实例包括以商品名出售的那些,如FL 2949、FL 3050、FL 3249(其是高度支化的)和Dec 50-50(其是双氰胺)。
也可存在其它添加剂,如阳离子或阴离子型无机颜料。例如,无机颜料可以按干重量计以5重量%至35重量%添加。这样的无机颜料的实例包括阴离子型碳酸钙、阳离子型碳酸钙或粘土。可用的碳酸钙的实例包括来自Omya North America的60,其是阴离子型碳酸钙;来自Specialty Products,Inc.的CAT,其是阳离子型碳酸钙;和来自Keim Additec Surface GmbH的D-806,其是碳酸钙颜料。
也可包含有助于抗磨性和摩擦系数(COF)降低的光滑助剂(slip aids)。高密度聚乙烯型蜡是合适的光滑助剂。可用的市售光滑助剂包括例如来自Michelman,Inc.的29235和来自Keim Additec Surface GmbH的E846。在一些实例中也可加入聚乙烯蜡。也可以加入少量的润滑剂、增稠剂、抗微生物剂、消泡剂、缓冲剂、CMS和表面活性剂,例如0.01重量%至5重量%。也可以包含少量的填料,例如0.01重量%至5重量%,包括如粘土、硫酸钡、二氧化钛、二氧化硅、氢氧化铝(aluminumtrihydrate)、氧化铝、勃姆石及其组合之类的材料。再次,这些材料是任选的并被视为填料,并且如果添加,不应减损整个涂层配制物的功能特征。
一旦制备该配制物,可以通过许多涂布方法将该涂层施加到基底上。因此,现在参照图2,在本公开的实例中,一种制备印刷介质的方法,其包括20将涂料组合物施加到介质基底上。该涂料组合物可包含水、聚合物粘合剂、阳离子胶乳、多价阳离子盐、荧光增白剂和抗淬灭剂。该方法可进一步包括30除去可能存在的水和任何其它挥发物以在介质基底上产生0.5至10gsm干涂层的步骤。该干涂层可包含5重量%至30重量%的聚合物粘合剂、20重量%至50重量%的阳离子胶乳、5重量%至15重量%的多价阳离子盐、1重量%至20重量%的荧光增白剂和1重量%至10重量%的抗淬灭剂,其中所述抗淬灭剂选自磺化二苯醚、聚乙烯吡咯烷酮及其组合,条件是如果所述聚合物粘合剂是聚乙烯吡咯烷酮,则所述抗淬灭剂是二苯醚二磺酸盐。
根据本公开的实例,可通过喷涂、浸涂、级联(cascade)涂布、辊涂、凹版(gravure)涂布、幕涂、气刀涂布、浇注涂布、Mayer棒涂布、刮刀涂布、薄膜涂布、计量施胶机涂布、搅拌型(puddle)施胶机涂布、压延机和/或通过使用其它已知涂布技术涂布基底。为各涂层选择的厚度取决于特定的所需性质或用途。但是,本公开的配制物的一个优点在于它们与许多其它市售涂料组合物相比可相对较薄施加。例如,在一个实例中,该涂层可以以0.5gsm至10gsm的涂层重量施加。在另一实例中,该涂层可以以1gsm至6gsm的涂层重量施加到基底上。用于不包含本公开的组分的对比介质的更典型的涂层重量通常为大约15gsm或更大,因此具有高白度、可接受的渗出控制和抗污性(smudge resistance)的较薄涂层特别有利。
要指出,除非文中清楚地另行规定,本说明书和所附权利要求书中所用的单数形式“一个”、“一种”和“该”包括复数对象。
“基底”或“介质基底”包括可根据本公开的实例涂布的任何基材,如薄膜基底、聚合物基底、传统纸基底、照相原纸基底、胶印介质基底等。此外,预涂布和薄膜涂布的基底可被视为可根据本公开的实例进一步涂布的“基底”。

下列实施例举例说明目前已知的一些涂布介质基底、系统和方法。但是,要理解的是,下面仅例示或举例说明本组合物、系统和方法的原理的应用。本领域技术人员可以在不背离本公开的精神和范围的情况下设计出许多修改和替代性的组合物、系统和方法。所附权利要求书旨在涵盖这样的修改和布置。因此,尽管上文已具体描述了实施例,但下面提供关于目前被视为可接受的实施例的进一步细节。
实施例1
根据下表1A和1B制备几种涂层配制物(以重量份表示,干燥):

这些涂层配制物可使用各种制备方法制备,使用各种液体载体并使用各种顺序添加成分。例如,在一个实例中,成分的添加顺序可以是例如水、阳离子胶乳粒子、多价阳离子盐、表面活性剂、聚合物粘合剂(在这些实施例中例如为淀粉、蛋白质或低Tg阴离子胶乳、聚乙烯蜡和聚乙烯醇)和荧光增白剂和最后其它添加剂。
实施例2
可以将表1A和1B的配制物施加到介质基底,如纸的一面或两面上,并干燥以除去溶剂或液体载体组分。要指出,在表1A和1B中没有列出液体载体,因为配方1-8以干重量提供。要指出,通过干燥除去的液体载体可以主要是水,含或不含其它少量的在干燥时容易除去的其它挥发性成分。剩余干重量可通常为0.5gsm至10gsm。在本实施例中,使用刮刀涂布机在普通纸印刷介质基底的单面上外覆涂布表1A和1B的涂层配制物以产生大约1gsm的干涂层重量。
据此,制备七个介质样品,然后测试各种介质样品的黑色光学密度(KOD)、品红光学密度(MOD)、色域体积(gamut volume)、黑色不规则/渗出(K-线渗出(K-line bleed)(μm))、CIE白度和ISO亮度。涂层1(C1)代表在纸介质基底的单面上以1gsm涂布的配方1;涂层2(C2)代表在纸介质基底的单面上以1gsm涂布的配方2;诸如此类。然后使用来自Ricoh5000基于染料的墨水体系的墨水在各涂布样品上印刷基于染料的黑色和彩色喷墨墨水。对于黑色光学密度(KOD)和品红光学密度(MOD),较大数值较好,其表明印刷在其上的基于染料的喷墨墨水的较大光学密度。通过取3个样品并得出平均数,测定KOD和MOD。对于K-线渗出或不规则,较小数值较好,其表明从有意印刷的线较少渗出到未印刷的区域(K-线)。通过测量八种颜色(黑色、白色、青色、品红、黄色、红色、绿色和蓝色)和计算色域体积,测定色域体积。用来自Technidyne Corporation,New Albany,Indiana,USA的Color Touch PC仪器,通过取三个样品并将测量结果平均化,测定CIE白度和ISO亮度。对于这两种测量,较高数值较好,其分别表明较大白度和亮度。这些数据点都如下提供在表2中:

如表2中可以看出,由于阳离子多价盐(CaCl2)和该盐与荧光增白剂之间的淬灭效应,C1表现出较低白度和亮度。如预期的,C2和C3显示通过添加附加的荧光增白剂,可以提高白度和亮度。涂层C4-C7都在添加少量抗淬灭剂的情况下表现出白度和亮度改进,但意料外的是与聚乙烯醇相比,通过使用己基二苯醚二磺酸二钠表面活性剂或聚乙烯吡咯烷酮作为抗淬灭剂,实现更显著的改进。
尽管已参照某些实施例描述了本公开,但本领域技术人员会认识到,可以在不背离本公开的精神的情况下作出各种修改、变动、省略和替代。因此本公开仅意在受下列权利要求书的范围限制。
Claims (15)
1.一种涂布印刷介质,其包括:
基底;和
施加到所述基底上的涂层,其包含,按干重量计:
5重量%至30重量%的聚合物粘合剂,
20重量%至50重量%的阳离子胶乳,
5重量%至15重量%的多价阳离子盐,
1重量%至20重量%的荧光增白剂,和
1重量%至10重量%的抗淬灭剂,其选自磺化二苯醚、聚乙烯吡咯烷酮及其组合,条件是如果所述聚合物粘合剂是聚乙烯吡咯烷酮,则所述抗淬灭剂是二苯醚二磺酸盐。
2.权利要求1的印刷介质,其中所述基底是未涂布或预涂布的并包括聚合物基底、纸基底、照相原纸基底、薄膜涂布基底或胶印介质基底。
3.权利要求1的印刷介质,其中所述聚合物粘合剂选自淀粉、聚乙烯醇、聚乙烯吡咯烷酮、-20℃至20℃Tg胶乳、蛋白质及其组合。

13.权利要求11的方法,其中所述荧光增白剂是二磺酸-或二磺化-均二苯乙烯、四磺酸-或四磺化-均二苯乙烯、六磺酸-或六磺化-均二苯乙烯或其衍生物。
14.一种印刷系统,其包括:
基于染料的黑色喷墨墨水;
涂布印刷介质,其包括:
基底;
施加到所述基底上的涂层,其包含,按干重量计:
5重量%至30重量%的聚合物粘合剂;
20重量%至50重量%的阳离子胶乳;
5重量%至15重量%的多价阳离子盐;和
1重量%至20重量%的荧光增白剂,和
1重量%至10重量%的抗淬灭剂,其中所述抗淬灭剂选自磺化二苯醚、聚乙烯吡咯烷酮及其组合,条件是如果所述聚合物粘合剂是聚乙烯吡咯烷酮,则所述抗淬灭剂是二苯醚二磺酸盐,
其中在以100%填充率印刷在所述涂布印刷介质上时,所述基于染料的黑色喷墨墨水具有至少1.35的光学密度。
15.权利要求14的印刷系统,其中所述涂布印刷介质以大约0.5至10gsm的干涂层重量涂布。
